How to buy
Here are our best shopping tips, to help you along on your merry way.
- Wear comfortable shoes! You’ll be surprised how much walking there is to do along 5th avenue (in particular) by the end of the day, you’ll doubt have covered several kilometres, so think of your knees and wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Most small shops and boutiques won’t take credit cards, so take a mix of cards and cash. There are plenty of very safe ATMs both on 5th Avenue and all the malls.
- You’re here to buy jewellery, not wear it! Stay safe, keep belongings to a minimum (no flashy jewels and watches) and avoid overly crowded shops, as they are favoured by pick-pockets.
- Beware of fakes, especially jewellery and artefacts. If buying a substantial piece of art, ask to meet the artist personally. All reputable galleries will have no problem with this. When out buying silver, bring along a small magnet (a Playa fridge magnet will do!) and test it against the piece of jewellery. Magnets will not stick to real silver but will stick to most other metals. Look for the 925 engraving on your chosen
In display were other wooden domestic equipment such as wooden pestle and mortar, a spade and a spear. Pottery was not left out of the exhibition as there were several pots, weaving was represented by the skin thread and a hat. You have probably already heard all about the Walmart stores that are going out of buisness. Not all Walmarts are closing but a nice amount of them are. I have to be honest, thought, I'm not really surprised. Walmart has never been my favorite store. It's the store I go to when no other place has what I'm looking for, and there is just not enough time to order it online. Or when I need to re-stock on my camping gear.
A lot of the stuff Traci mentioned mom was things we take for granted because we have them with us every day with you for example mole, fideo, salsa de Tapatio. When Traci and her husband would see these in the store they would be so excited they would cling on to these items as if it would somehow help them resist and cling on to their Chicana/o culture. One thing that she mentioned to that stood out to me and I related to was how one of the aunts named Martha brought them back gifts from Juarez. She explained that these gifts were so much more than gifts they were symbolic emblems to preserve their culture (Fordham- Hernadez, 163). It reminded me of when mi abuelita would come from Mexico back then, when her health was better and still had access to a visa, she would always remember to bring us sugar skulls and little replicas of molcajete. She would bring cajeta, rebozos, and traditional clothing/jewelry made in Mexico. Everything that she brought us as a gift always had a historical significance to it or culture aspect. In a sense now I see how even abuelita being hundreds of miles away helped you help us keep our customs and heritage
1. When I was little my dad would often visit his mother in Oaxaca and would bring me back yoyos, little clay pottery, and other curious objects that I could never seem to find at Target or Toys-R-Us.

With technology gaining the ability to intrude upon each individual’s privacy, people are only recently becoming aware of the ways in which this is achieved—while many are focused on, for example, the NSA tapping into his or her phone, the biggest invasion of privacy comes from a system which we often turn a blind eye to: consumerism. In the article “Economic Citizenship and the Rhetoric of Gourmet Coffee”, Mathieu uses Starbucks as an example to show how one company can appeal so strongly to costumers that the consumer turns a blind eye to the company’s ethics. However, in the article “The Science of Shopping”, Gladwell analyzes the methods in which retailers try to appeal to their customers to maximize their sales.

Treating yourself or a loved one with diamond earrings can be a costly exercise when visiting retail stores in Australia. In addition to being pressured by sales assistants you can also easily end up paying overinflated prices. This is why Studs Direct, an online option for buying earrings, is a great alternative. Because Studs Direct is an online only company they are able to offer much more competitive prices than the Australian retails stores who pass on their high expenses to customers.
I like this because it has a clear thesis statements and strong three reasons. The first paragraph introduces of the surveillance of retails by retail anthropologists and it claims a certain assertion that it is ethical and it can many benefits. Each body paragraphs stated the main points and used the MEAL plan successfully. This second paragraph suggests the main idea, “The first reason that surveillance benefit is bringing more convenience for consumer.” The convenience for consumer directed to the reducing the customer’s shopping time and the relating evidence support the idea. After the evidence, the writer thoroughly analysis. Especially, I liked the quote, “Thus, they just go straight to the store to grab what they needed and head to the pay counter. The time of a person spends in shopping mall is decreased which affects the slowly growth of businesses’ profit”, because I could relate to my shopping experience. This essay is effective argument essay with clear thesis statement, strong reasons and evidences to support the main ideas, and successfully followed the argumentative structure.
Shopping is one of the most common social activities in our life. Lingering in one store and another, the customers are looking for the products that meet their requirements and making decisions to purchase while enjoying the leisure time with their families or friends. At the same time, to achieve a better business performance, the retailers try to attract the customers to pay more attention to the products and stay longer in their stores by using various kinds of technologies to surveil the shoppers, such as using cameras to monitor their shopping behavior, tracking their purchased items, and even analyzing these consumers’ background. However, the surveillance of consumers by retail anthropologists is manipulative and unethical
