LEARNING REQUIREMENTS
This task should give students the opportunity to:
- Know and understand the five capabilities
- Select and develop at least one capability relevant to achieving their goals
ASSESSMENT DESIGN CRITERIA - Developing personal & learning goals
THE FIVE CAPABILITIES
The five capabilities are central to students’ learning in this subject. Students develop their knowledge and understanding of each capability.
In this task, students also identify, explore, and develop personal and learning goals, and strategies to achieve them. They select and develop at least one capability relevant to achieving their personal and learning goals.
Students reflect on how the development of their selected capability or capabilities helps to achieve their personal and learning goals.
SECTION 1: THE CAPABILITIES
There are five capabilities identified in the SACE:
1. Communication
2. Citizenship
3. Personal Development
4. Work
5. Learning
Use the questions on the following pages as a guide to explore and discuss the capabilities.
1. Communication
Watch the YouTube clip of Faulty Towers "Communication Problems" and answer the following questions regarding Communication and the importance of it.
1. Why is communication with teachers, mentors, parents/carers, career advisors and employers important to achieve your goals? Communication with your teacher is very important because you are learning things from them to use after school. To use in life when you have a real
Teaching is not merely about methods used and material presented in the classroom, but about shaping students’ lives to help them construct a firm foundation for a successful future. I desire to teach my students basic life skills as well as challenge them to set and reach their highest goals.
It is important for my students to understand and value learning goals in the classroom. At the start of every chapter students will be supplied an outline of what they are going to encounter in the upcoming weeks.
Once I have identified the student’s motivation I would develop an individual plan that would remove each of these barriers and enable the student to move to the next level.
Students develop their general capabilities while participating in daily learning activities. Over time the general capabilities will support and enrich learning experiences and help bring a deeper understanding of subject matter.
6. How team members can be given the opportunity to meet the course objectives and their personal learning goals.
Some of the goals of schooling and society in the United States are to develop students and citizens, who have high aspirations, believe in their capabilities, are hopeful they can realize their aspirations, and are optimistic about their future in general. Such characteristics are important because each leads to overall well-being (Bandura, 1977; Scheirer & Carver, 1985; Snyder et al., 1991), student achievement and higher graduation rates (Snyder et al., 2002) through a personal sense of urgency which allows them to take control of their life, challenge themselves, persevere through difficulties, and cope when obstacles arise (McBride, 2012).
Albert Einstein once said, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken creative expression and knowledge.” In this one quote, we find that teaching is so much more than meets the eye. We must do those things the outside world sees well to reach students at that deeper level. As teachers, we have a great opportunity to reach students and help them to recognize their potential. To do so, we need to recognize our own potential and the power we possess as we educate our future leaders. With such malleable minds coming in and out of our classroom, it is important that we distinguish between our strengths and weaknesses. We need to know our strengths so that we know which ways we are best reaching our students. These strong areas can also be used to help strengthen other educators in these places as well. It is also vital we can see our the areas in which we ourselves are weak. In all areas of life, there are places in which we can and need to improve. Being teachers, we need to be aware of these areas so that we can work on improving them. As we do this, we are bettering our students because in some way we are bettering their education. This also gives us the opportunity to recognize other areas that need improvement. We should always be in a cycle of recognizing and improving areas of our teaching. It should be noted that while we should be analytical of ourselves, we should not be over-critical of ourselves. I have identified both strengths and weaknesses in my life that will affect my teaching.
Good communication is a criterion that sets many students apart in terms of traits. This is useful when building any form of rapport between them and the lecture or tutor. A student that respectfully communicates has also come out as self-motivated and is more likely to get more help from the teacher since their problems are aired out effectively. Students that do not communicate can be misjudged and mistaken for lack of motivation and self-confidence. In addition, students who are good communicators are made, not born (Floyd, 2013).
This goal can be met by building value in creativity, and finding a better way to measure student 's skills and knowledge.
It also shows them how to be lifelong learners which enables them to build on their strengths. I will do this by teaching what is relevant and needful for my students. I will teach them to build on their strengths and their talents. In learning about their strengths, they will also learn how to communicate with me and others. These lessons will enable a student to lead a life they will be proud to have and build on.
The capability I plan to develop is the personal and social capability. In the project, I will be using the capability concepts to my project as well as developing an understanding of the capability. The concepts will be shown from participating actively in the learning, work and community life by interviewing teachers, health professionals and teenagers. The interviews will also show the concept of building links with others locally. My understanding of the personal and social capability will be developed from reviewing and planning personal goals. This will be shown from weekly reflection of work and discussing plans and goals. The capability can also be developed from having empathy and understanding of social media usages among teenagers
students develop skills that prepare them for the work force or continued education. School to post
At the same time in order for the learning to be effective it needs to engage with the goals of the individual learner in terms of personal development or career development.
Being an elementary school teacher comes with a tremendous amount of responsibilities. As a teacher, it is important to know how help all children learn, and contribute to the classroom in an effective way. With students having their own unique way of learning, and contributing to the class us as teachers need help our students find out where they shine in the classroom. As a teacher helping students learn in the way that beneficial to the student is the most important part of the job. A way to help the student succeed in the classroom is to find a goal they are passionate about, find a reward that helps give the child something to work towards. Whether it is an academic goal or them having to work to be able to stay on a sports team. According to Bigpicture.org learning goals are tools used for problem solving and offer a set of boundaries to help the students look at the real world. With helping students set goals it gives them the tools
Keeping that in mind, my goal is to empower students by using all four processes. As professionals, we must support students in attaining not only academic skills but also in developing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to become caring and successful citizens.
