Argument Essay Reflection “Direct-to-Consumer Advertising on the internet negatively affects Americans consumer” is the title of my expository essay which I was excited about writing. Throughout my years in college, I had written an expository essay before where I enjoyed the research process. Therefore, I find that the research process is essential in my process in writing the expository essay with a strong thesis. However, I find that I still have to do some improvement at forming my ideas together in order to communicate effectively with others. My thought process of writing the expository essay was interesting because I had to do research through a database and carefully selected the articles that best support my thesis. Therefore, I prioritized the different tasks relating to the assignment by analyzing which tasks are essential to complete the expository essay in the best way possible. For example, the logic behind the prioritization was to have a topic, do some research in the topic in order to narrow my issue, then search on the databases for articles, review the reliability of …show more content…
Then, I selected three subtopics that responded to and supported my thesis. Then, I assembled the three subtopics in three body paragraphs, each paragraph focused in one subtopic. Likewise, the use of produce-then-assemble technique helped me to develop my thesis question by writing about the three main subtopics and then using them to respond to my thesis question. Furthermore, the process of gathering evidence was complicated because the evidence to use in the expository essay has to meet the requirements of being reliable and proveing my thesis. Television, news, radio, billboards and online websites are just a few forms of media that companies use to advertise their products or services. Companies use advertisements to influence the consumer to either buy or use their products and services. Advertisements are used to manipulate consumers in many ways.
In the essay Advertisements R Us, Melissa Rubin does a satisfactory job persuading readers who may not share the same view or analysis of the advertisement as her. Rubin does this by including plenty of historical context into her writing. This works by providing sound reasons and evidence to back up her analysis about what the ad was trying to do, which was to sell its product to the most profitable group of people
Every day, companies present the people with advertisements everywhere they go. Advertisements have become very prevalent in today’s society nowadays focusing in on a negative connotation. Advertisement has become an effective way for producers to display their new products. In present day, they come in forms of billboards, flyers, e-mails, and even text messages. It is widely known that companies create advertisements to persuade people to buy specific products or goods; however, it is not widely known that advertisements can make a negative impact on today’s society. Advertisements are very well put together and build of ideas that they want you to believe. One personal example of how advertising got to me was when I went Las Vegas, specifically Circus Circus. The advertisement I saw on television formed my “symbolic complex” of this place affecting my experience and making me lose my sovereignty. I then added how this was similar to Percy’s example on the Grand Canyon and how this “symbolic complex” affects us and we are dependent on it. I then ended and briefly talked about about one last thing that Percy states that we can still gain our sovereignty, by leaving these preconceived ideas. In this essay I had a good amount of struggle than the previous ones due to the fact I had to write without a specific assigned topic. During the process of my essay I went to the Writing Center twice. Which without a doubt had to do, as shown on my last essay which by doing so I got a B+, unlike my previous essay which I got a D and a F. I went and they helped me greatly with my grammar. Although, I believe my grammar is improving I do feel as my essay might have quite some more grammar errors for the last part of my essay did not get to be fully
The United States and New Zealand are the only developed countries that allow direct-to-consumer advertising. Whether the practice of direct to consumer advertising is beneficial to the consumers or not is a highly debated subject with both positions presenting sound reasoning for their position.
