1. Diversity is a range of different things, forms, types, ideas, races and cultures. Learning diversity would allow me to be great teacher. Teachers must come to understand the real lived experience of the families and children they teach. Being educated on diversity could help me understand the different circumstances and characteristics of various students. It would make you more aware of different cultures, and better me for cultures and beliefs. As I continue out my career when I come in contact with more diverse students I will be more educate and efficient then I was before. To prepare for diversity you should all ways be opened minded. A great teacher is flexible and prepared for the unexpected.

Diversity is to value that we are all unique and yet similar. We have different needs, interests, learning styles, language and personality etc.

Diversity means to value and respect the differences and individuality of people. This means to embrace the differences between people and to treat a person’s race, culture, religious beliefs, age, sexual orientation, gender, physical and mental characteristics etc. with respect.

Diversity can be differences in race, heritage, customs, belief systems, physical appearance, mental capabilities; etc Diversity should be respected and valued because nobody is completely the same as anyone else, even within the categories above. People tend to reject what is different. We must value our diversity in order to work together.

Diversity is about respecting individual differences these can be: ethnicity, physical abilities, gender, age, religious, beliefs, sexual orientation, material status, politic, region, religion, disability.

Diversity is to be accepted and respected. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognising our individual differences. These can be things such as: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs and political beliefs. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich ways of diversity contained within each individual. For example, people living abroad in a different country telling people about their experience links to making a positive contribution. Also, children can celebrate their religion with their friends

To me, diversity means, people with different races, cultures, religions, language, and beliefs making one community, or whole country itself. One of the great example of diversity would be the United States of America because in the United States of America there are many people with different languages, races, religions, and people come to the United States from different culture. Therefore, America is the one of the most diverse nation. Additionally, to me diversity also means the respecting people with differences. For example, when people come from different culture, they have some different beliefs. I am from different culture and we do have some different beliefs. Diversity means differences in ethnicity, heritage, customs, beliefs and values. It could be someone’s physical appearance, mental capabilities, etc. I teach the children in my care that their personal identity which is formed from a young age allows them to realise they are their own person. Diversity is positive and should be respected and valued because nobody is completely the same as anyone else. Telling them that being different from everyone else makes us unique, and that we must value the diversity and differences that surround us, in order to work together to make our society a positive place to live.

Diversity is an ongoing discussion in day-to-day life. Not many situations occur without diversity having a role. There are a multitude of topics that introduces or involves diversity, to include age, sex, race, gender, ethnicity and so on. Prior to participating in this Diversity Awareness class, I’ve always thought diversity was more geared around discrimination and racism. Diversity is defined as “the condition of having or being composed of differencing elements” (Webster Dictionary). Through my clinical experiences I have seen a lot of diversity whether it be different ethnicity, the family culture/make-up or students living with disabilities in the classrooms. Specifically, in my urban clinicals I saw more ethnicity and culture diversity differences between student to student and student to teacher relationships. However, in my suburban school clinical experiences I also saw diversity, but in a different way. Here I saw much more diversity in family make-up.

Diversity is what makes your classroom unique and gives you an understanding of how to teach. Diversity influences the classroom by showing teachers that students will learn differently and require different instructions. This course taught me about how multiple intelligence works in the classroom and how students benefit from different learning styles and activities. Diversity is important to understand when teaching since it involves how a student learns and participates. Some aspects of diversity include race, socio economic status, language, gender, and culture. IDEA influences my teaching by preparing me for students with disabilities by showing me what I can do to improve their learning environment.

Our schools are full of a variety of children who are diverse in their own ways. What comes to mind when you hear the word diversity within schools? Many people think of race or culture, but diversity in our schools is more than that. Diversity can include race, religion, culture, and even learning styles in a classroom. In the past classrooms where not that diverse consisting of white protestant students. Currently diversity in classrooms is on the rise big time. Today’s classrooms are more effective in diversity, learning styles, and influences than past years.

I understand that people go through hard times in life. Everyone has a background story, and everyone has a different view on the way they handle adversity. One Thanksgiving a few years ago, my dad had called and told me that he was moving to Michigan. I haven’t lived more than two hours from my dad, I had no idea how to take the news. He hasn’t been involved in my life for 17 years now, and I have grown to accept that he will never be a father to me. Stephen R. Covey said, “Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.” I am a carrot, an egg, and a coffee bean because I, too, suffer from adversity.
