In this paper, I will be speaking about my participants diversity characteristics and how those characteristics helped shape her life experiences. Apart from her diversity characteristics, I will talk about the challenges she had throughout her lifetime and the strengths that helped her overcome her challenges. I will also talk about possible goals and interventions that could of improved Santa’s life, if she would had applied them. Participant Life Story My participant Santa is a Hispanic female, who is currently sixty-five years old. Santa is originally from Puerto Rico, but decided to migrate to Buffalo, NY at the age of forty-nine. She has been on disability since 2001, due to health reasons. Santa is very involved in her religion; she has been attending a Catholic church since she had relocated to Buffalo. Her sexual preference is heterosexual and her political ideology is Democratic. As for her social class Santa considers herself to be middle-class, she stated that she never struggled financially. Santa described her family as family-oriented. She expressed that her father was the one who worked and provided for the family and that her mother was a stay at home mom. It was not until Santa was ten years old that her mother decided to work in order to have two incomes for the family. She also stated that at the age of ten she would take care of herself and her younger siblings while both her parents worked. This affected my participant in a negative way
Diversity does not simply refer to race or even culture; it’s everywhere. We are all diverse, meaning we are all different from one another. The book The Other Wes Moore we see two kids with the same name, but very different lives that they live. Wes and Wes are similar in ways, but in the end turn out nothing like each other. One chose to lead his life in a better path, while the other sticks with a path that ultimately destructs his life. In this paper, I will discuss what diversity means to me, messages that I learned about various minorities or majorities when I was a child, if my views have changed, when diversity influenced my life, and the situation when it influenced me. Some other things that I will discuss also are the main characters of the book, examples of diversity involving the main characters, and which character I related with the most in this book.
The client I chose for this diversity interview is 13 year old Willie Hazzard. Willie is the youngest son of Diane Hazzard. Willie is clearly effected by the many generations of poverty, his mother’s addiction, the neglect due to his mother’s addiction, and his exposure to the foster care system. Willie appears to lack trust, he is hostile, and he seems to be a little too familiar with living on the streets. His lack of trust can be attributed to his mother’s lack of parenting when he was little which caused him to be removed from the only home he had ever known and thrust into the child welfare system. He bounced around to a few different homes and was returned to his mother 6.5 years later so he was never able to plant
How do people behave? What makes us act the way we do? There are as many different answers as there are people. Each person is a unique makeup of individual characteristics which blend together to form the personality, the behavior of the person. We can identify certain broad characteristics of groups of people and apply them to individuals to get an idea of how they will behave in a given situation. This is called stereotyping and, when taken too far, will give a distorted picture of what to expect of a persons behavior. While you can never get a fully accurate picture of how someone will behave based on their demographics and characteristics, you can make certain general guesses that will point
The first artifact I have attached for Standard Four: Diversity is a diversity project completed during the spring of 2015 for ED444 Methods and Materials for Teaching Social Studies and ED447 Instructional Technology. This project consists of different resources to use when teaching Kindergarten Social Studies Standard Three. This standard requires students to describe how rules offer safety at home, school, and in the community. This diversity project demonstrates activities that aid in individual experiences.
The concept of diversity is one that individuals may not think of when they think of nursing. Diversity is a major component to nursing and the care that is provided to patients. In this concept analysis, antecedent, attributes and consequences of diversity are identified. The following antecedents are: race, social economy, knowledge, gender, and education level. The attributes of diversity are individual, variety, perception, difference and civilization. The consequences of diversity are as follows; acceptance, decision making, cultural competency qualifications, respect, degrading, trusts
Cultural diversity, or multiculturalism, is based on the idea that cultural identities should not be discarded or ignored, but rather maintained and valued. The foundation of this belief is that every culture and race has made a substantial contribution to American history. However, many people remain opposed to the idea of multiculturalism, or cultural diversity awareness, while others often support it and yet have no clear idea of how it should be taught. The diversity of the United States is truly astounding, as many different ethnic and racial groups have contributed to the social,

It is thought that in about 280 CE, the man now known as Santa Claus was born. This man’s full name was St. Nicholas of Myra. There is close to no information on this man, but there is legends. No one knows whether they are true or not. A famous legend tells of a story, where St. Nicholas helped a poor father and his three daughters. The father did not afford to pay his children’s dowries, and was consequently forced to sell them into slavery. But before the father could sell his children into servitude, St. Nicholas came in the night, and provided the unfortunate father with money for his daughters.
Jamie Allegro had been just a normal unemployed fifteen year old boy in Texas just trying to work his way up to getting his college degree, in which he hadn’t thought about his future much, he just did what society told him to do. His mother, Diana Allegro had been a veterinarian for around twenty years, a caring mother, but often brought pets that Jamie or Diana’s husband was allergic to. His father, Charles Allegro, was this cranky person, according to Jamie, who never really was around. He was a certified public accountant, that was 3 years younger than Jamie’s mother. In the past, Jamie was very gullible, doing so made him believe that Santa was real until age twelve. He tries to be socially acceptable to others and would trust most ideas
Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America’s, if not the world’s, most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West’s religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of Santa Claus in recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa’s image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Last year, a national debate ensued after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate
“We go to church as separate families, then come back to Gomie’s house. We fill up on enormous amounts of food... the children would go to sleep and be woken up at midnight to find Santa was in the house, which is usually one of the male adults dressing up. We give out the presents there from all the aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.”
Diversity is defined as “the condition of having or being composed of differencing elements” (Webster Dictionary). Through my clinical experiences I have seen a lot of diversity whether it be different ethnicity, the family culture/make-up or students living with disabilities in the classrooms. Specifically, in my urban clinicals I saw more ethnicity and culture diversity differences between student to student and student to teacher relationships. However, in my suburban school clinical experiences I also saw diversity, but in a different way. Here I saw much more diversity in family make-up.
Santa lives in a magical place filled with little elves running around. He lives in a little village called the North Pole. Christmas presents are stored at the North Pole. Everyone talks about the North Pole because of how much snow there is and how the Christmas trees are perfect and pretty. Santa’s reindeer live at the North Pole, where they can eat as many carrots as they want. Every letter a child writes to Santa is sent to the North Pole. Santa has a
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon the diverse experiences that I have had in my personal and professional life. Fortunately, I have had a large mix of diverse friends and experiences in my life. This paper will discuss those diversities as well as the plan to expand on my current knowledge.
We live in a society where people come from different countries, they belong to different cultural, religion, ethnic groups, and races. All these factors come together and contributes to differences that make us unique from each other. Hence, a multicultural country with huge diversity. Moreover, what bias, assumptions and judgements are, and how to avoid them. Lastly, what caring is and what role does it play in nursing.
