Do cellphones cause brain cancer? Every single day in America two hundred billion text messages are received. In 2015, Americans will spend $1.8 billion dollars on mobile devices. There is no doubt that Americans are dependent of their cellular devices, but this could change in the future. If researchers can prove that the radiation cell phones put off is damaging to the human brain Americans may have to get rid of their smartphones. As of right now there is no concrete evidence supporting either side in this dilemma. After years of studies on cell phones and cancer the results have been conflicting. Currently there is no answer to how high your risk is to get cancer, if at all, due to cell phone use. The biggest issue between cell phones and …show more content…
According to the Mayo Clinic in one study that followed 420,000 people over a twenty-year period, researchers found no data linking cell phones to brain cancer. However, another study showed an increase risk of glioma for the people who used their cell phones the most. After evaluating the studies, the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded that there is limited evidence that shows cellphone radiation is a cancer-causing agent. Once they looked at these studies, the agency stated that radiofrequency electromagnetic fields that the cell phones put off as possibly harmful to …show more content…
Today cell phones have many downsides. Some of these issues are misuse of the device. The use of cell phones has made cheating a lot easier since students can look up correct answers, take pictures of assessments, and spread answers to classmates. Another issue of cell phones is the price they cost. According to the Federal Bureau of Labor and Statistics the average phone bill for Americans is 63 dollars per month. That adds up to over 760 dollars per year and that is only for one person. Cell phones cause financial stress on many families with the high price to purchase phones and phone plans. One major issue with cell phones that is extremely popular right now is texting and driving. “In 2013 there were 341,000 motor vehicle crashes that involved texting. Every day in American nine people die in accidents that are caused by distracted driving” (Schumaker 4). Lastly cell phones are also causing a lack of social interaction in today’s world. Now people do not have to meet up and talk face to face and instead they text or email. This lack of social interaction limits your ability to create personal relationships and meet new people. If cell phones were to be proven to cause brain cancer it would overall not be as bad for society as everyone would think because of those reasons. As more research is done in the future we will learn more
In the debate article discuss the topics of cell phones giving off radiation and transferring it to the human brain. This is a big deal because a lot of Americans own or use phones. The article goes on to say that researchers have found that people have brain tumors and damage in DNA due to cell phones. This article deals with a lot of controversy because many people believed cell phones were the cause of brain tumors, it was such a big issue many inventors were sued in the 1990s. The debate can go on and on, however this is not keeping anyone from buying more phones.

Just by looking at the images from the Spirit of Health study there is an obvious difference. On one set of cells the size and shape completely changed. Twenty minutes after the cell phone call was made the cells clumped together becoming two to three times bigger than the original. One reason the cells could be clumping together is because of lack of oxygen and death of the cells. The proximity of the cells to the mobile phone could by one reason the cells are dying but in children the radiation would travel much further theoretical killing many more cells. In a study conducted by Nora Volkow, the Head of National Institute on Drug Abuse, a PET scanner was used to look at the brain activity while having a phone next to a subject’s head. The study
With 87 percent of American adults owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today’s society. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative affects. Cell Phones have become one of the fastest emerging technologies (Campbell, 2006). With 87 percent of American adults and teenagers owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today’s society. Since the release of the first cell phone, they have immensely evolved and some would say, have become an essential to everyday life. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative and impactful effects on our social
The third source of radiation is using cellular telephones and radio-frequency (RF) have denoted as a large effect of this type of radiation. "Early studies have shown that there is a relationship between using cellular telephones and the growth of brain tumors. Moreover, unfortunately even under laboratory conditions direct exposures to high energy of RF is difficult to quantify"(5).
People know brain cancer can be a very scary disease. Use your cell phone with care. Studies have shown that people who use their cell phones on a regular basis have higher chances of getting a brain tumor, which can later develop into cancer, is 240% higher then someone who stays off the phone. Cell phones give off radioactive waves which attack brain cells. The primary cause is still unknown, people still try and fins ways to prevent it. Avoiding
But these problems only happen if people use them 24/7. These things can be lethal on some ways. Like RF radiation, bad eye sight and deafness, and even cancer and brain tumors are all things that can happen. This piece tells us a lot about cellphones and helps determine the bad things in cell phones. Know that this world can change a ton with people having awareness of cellphones. We can see that cell phones are like a drug. People begin to use it, and just can't stop, even if people know it hurts
vi. Radio frequency energy emitted by mobile phones are absorbed by tissues and can triggers the risk of brain cancer.
In issue 8 of our text beginning on page 135, Olga V. Naidenko and Linda S. Erdreich debate the issue of health effects of cell phone usage. Naidenko states that cell phone usage does cause cancer, or at least that more research should be done about longer term usage than what has been done previously. Erdreich opposes the idea, stating that studies have shown there are no long term health effects of cell phone usage (Easton, 2010. p. 135-147). I feel that Erdreich is correct in her review of scientific studies, and that cell phones are generally safe for everyday use. That being said,
However there had done others study that express the connection between cell phones and different types of biological damage to human body. For example The European Journal of Scientific Research conducted a lab experiment with normal human astrocytes, an LG Verizon cell phone and MRET-Nylon chip. The experiment revealed that normal human astrocytes cell that were exposed to cell phone radiation at a room temperature without the MRET-Nylon chip decreased by 20% less . Igor Smirnov is one of the author of this experiment and he stated on his article that "It is well documented that cell phones, which emit electromagnetic fields in the radio frequency range, can cause DNA damage, headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, fatigue, short term memory loss, neuralgias, tumors, sleep disturbances, aberrant brain wave activity and changes to cerebral blood flow, including altering the permeability of the blood brain barrier" (Smirnov, 2009). Smirnov statement and finding about the emission of electromagnetic wave from cell phones gives a lot to think. Even-tough it's a small amount of radiation that is being emitted from cell-phones, because they are held very close to the head at the end of a long term usage the risk of brain cancer and others health problems will
With cell phone usage increasing, many individuals have become concerned about the health effects of radiation from cell phones and cell phone towers. In recent years, various studies have been conducted to determine whether the radio frequency waves from cell phone towers have a detrimental effect on health. Current research has yielded inconsistent results regarding the effects of radio frequency waves, and while the World Health Organization does not view radio frequency waves as serious risk, more research needs to be done in order to be certain (USDA, 2009).
Did you know that the cancer government, the federal communications commission’s says that hundreds of millions of Americans uses cell phones, and cell phones can cause you to have brain tumors? Did you also know that both adults and children spend most of their time on phone? When using your phone, it might give you a neck problem because in respect to cancer, concern focuses on whether cell phones might increase the risk of brain tumors in the head and neck area. But let me tell you something, as many of us use our phones daily, do we ever stop and think it might affect our body? No because we are so into social media and playing games that we don’t have time to think that it’s going to affect us. People say that phones are safe and other say they aren’t. I say that they can be safe at some time it can also depend what you do, and how long you use it for. Therefore, many of us get distracted easily and it’s pretty hard to get back on track. In 1973, the first portable cell phone was discovered, due to the cause that cell phones may not be safe at some time cell phones are also very important because in case of an emergency you will have a device with you.
I am going to talk about the arguments about how cell phone radiation can affect our lives and whether these arguments are accurate or not. Cell phone radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation that has the ability to cause health issues. The radiation from this device can cause serious brain tumours, according to one study by Anna Lahkola of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland, which found that people who use their cell phone for more than 2000 hours have a higher chance of getting a brain tumour. The
The good news is that there are a few simple solutions that help in lowering one’s risk of exposure to radiation. First of all, holding the phone away from the face and using the speaker phone instead leads to ten thousand times less exposure. In addition, using a wired headset gives less exposure into the ear. Secondly, since carrying the phone in one’s pocket leads to exposure to his or her bone marrow, one should simply keep the phone off. Lastly, the weaker the signal in the phone, the more the radio frequency signal has to enhance itself to get into the phone; thus, one should avoid using the phone if it appears to have a weak signal. Basically, one gets greater exposure to radiation with a weaker signal. Indeed, it is never too late to prevent oneself from such hazards.
Furthermore, Mobile phones are harmful to user’s health so they can affect their learning ways. Researchers have been found that mobile phones produce waves that are harmful to heart, internal and reproductive organs. Also, radiation from mobile phones can damage brain cell. (http://hubpages.com/hub/Effects-of-cell-phone--mobile-phone-use-on-our-brain-and-memory). For example, mobile phones can be implicated in brain tumours as a result of electromagnetic fields or radiation.
