Nichole Soliman Mrs. Hawkins English Accelerated Per 2 December 15, 2016 Do The Write Thing Challenge Mr. Hart asked me for my name, and I told him that it was Eli. The man then asked me how I was doing, about my day, and my school work. I said that they were all fine, but why did he have to care?
The three things I learned about are: recognizing an emergency, deciding to help, and call 911 if EMS is needed. Recognizing an emergency is very important. Four factors to notice when something is wrong are: severity, physical distance, relationship, and time exposed.
Writing is a form of art. Just as an artist paints an image to convey some sort of deeper meaning hidden beneath the surface, a writer creates a portrait through words and structure to communicate the same sort of meaning. Writing, however, follows some sort of specific guidelines and the parameters become slimmer and more defined as you get older and more experienced. I learned the basics of writing in elementary school. Back then, it was more enjoyable and seemed to allow more room for creativity. Simple, broad topics such as describing how your Thanksgiving break went were common and allowed you to write basically whatever you wanted and in whatever form you chose. Boundaries to my writing became solidified in high school. During those four years, I learned proper sentence structure, how to compose a five paragraph essay, and all the restrictions that came along with upper-level writing. I began losing interest in writing, thinking that it would only become more
Wow, where do I begin? When I first came into this class I assumed it was just another boring writing class that I just needed to walk away with an A in. Boy did I walk away with more. The main things I came away with were that writing is a way to express myself when I don’t have the voice to say it. Sometimes it's much easier to write my ideas on paper and later find the proper word choice to bring it all together. I became my biggest critic, whether it was about using the correct word choice or correcting my paper and realizing that my sentences weren’t flowing smoothly. Those are pretty big components to writing. So yes, I’d say this class changed my outlook on writing.
Writing, in terms of school work (especially considering essays, prompts, and anything that somehow constricts freedom of thoughts or ideas in any way), does not come natural to me. Writing is hard, no matter what kind of writing it is, but writing papers is especially hard. Some people would choose, outside of forced schoolwork, to write essays and papers and prompts. I do not choose to do such, as many of them may not make much sense. For me, writing short stories or poems or longer short stories (novellas?) comes natural to me. They are free, not necessarily bound by constrictions from a school assignment. But, as prompted, this reflection comes into play with the writing skills used in an English class. I am hoping through this class to make my essay writing (and
Understanding the writing assignment before I start can be difficult, on the other hand, as I write, I find myself understanding and changing what I have written. At times, my paper becomes unorganized and this is frustrating for me and I will labor to reorganize my assignment. Organizing my papers using the writing process from The College Writer will be a fruitful discipline to practice during this writing course.
This cover letter aimed to describe what I learned in the Academic Writing class (ENGL 4893). In addition, to highlight the assignments I wrote as practice for the academic research writing in my scientific field. Academic writing might define as how scientists document research, and what scientific literature sources were cited. Before the class I knew that scientific article summarize a research done by a group of authors. Also, I knew that each article contains many sections. However, the academic writing class (ENGL 4893) improved my understanding for the role of each section. In addition, I improved my academic writing skills, taking advantage of the various practices we did at the class.
As a college student writing is something that I have trouble doing. After struggling through high school with the same issues, I told myself that I was going to improve my writing skill one way or another. The three main things that I should focus on in order to get my writing skills to part are: 1. outlining, I always over look outlining because I hate to break writing down. 2. Finding someone to look over my paper, sometimes the idea of asking people to look at your writing and see if they find mistakes is hard. Criticism can be hard on you at times. 3. Do a more thorough search of my topic, usually when I research information I just get the first information that I find, but I should get deeper in my searches then I currently do. I think that these three things have not affected my communication, but
What is the correct writing process? There are different techniques that a person can follow in order to be a good writer. For instance, People can use any process to write an essay as longer they follow the direction from their instructor and make sure that everything make sans and it is spell correctly. For example I was taught that the best way to writing an essay is to organize all the ideas, then write the essay, also make sure all the punctuation, spelling, grammar are correct, and finally reread and make corrections I want to say that when I write an essay I rarely do brainstorming, and I know that is not correct to start writing. I usually type what I think it is relate it to the topic that I am supposed to write about it. Then, I
Question 1: What do you perceive as your greatest writing challenge overall? What do you usually have the most trouble with as a writer?
After watching, “No One Writes Alone”, the required video, I understand the process of peer review better. From past experiences with peer review, I found that people tend to only correct the grammar portions of the work instead of actually analyzing the paper as a whole. Classmates tended to not really care about the statement you were trying to make or how the paper flowed. I like the peer view for the fact that it helps me improve as a writer and improves my thought process as well. Although, I dislike how some people tend to criticize your view-point instead of not focusing on what they are supposed to do. I also dislike how some people can come of overly negative to you. I feel peer review should come off as friendly as possible. In general,
I needed to fill up my schedule and for the 2nd year in a row I tried to sign up for the coaching and sports class. However, for the 2nd year in a row, I wasn’t able to get into the coaching and sports class. The counselor randomly assigned me to creative writing. I didn’t pick creative writing because I was in the honor’s English class, and I knew I would be doing enough writing in that class alone. I entered your classroom with a high school attitude of thinking I was too good for where I was at. My attitude was that this class would be a blow off and that I could breeze through this semester. I was wrong, but it turned out to be in the best way. I’ve had you as an English teacher before, but in creative writing you provided me with freedom.
In today’s business world, effective communication skills play a significant role in problem-solving, increasing productivity and developing strong relationships in the workplace. In this article “The Dullest, Most Vital Skill You Need to Become a Successful Manager”, Walter Chen argues that how a basic ability like writing is overlooked in many times. Chen claims that in order to become “a highly effective and successful manager”, the person should know the principal rules of writing effectively and concisely because only then the manager would have distinct impression towards his entire team (Chen).
Writing on the college level can be difficult and it require focus organization and discipline. Before starting out a student needs to have a clear focus on their chosen topic. One should never be too, always be specific. College writing assignments requires students to support their points with evidence. To most effectively present an idea it is important that its support be organized adequately. While many students tend to rattle off their evidence at the start. A topic should be introduced first and a claim should be made to the reader. That claim is then supported with specific evidence. Students should be mindful not to let evidence speak for itself it is important to explain everything to the reader. This is how a college writing assignment

This creative writing class was a lot of fun and better than I expected it to be. I did not think that I could actually write poems and short stories, but I did. For this class I would definitely say we had great pacing and we had enough time to do everything that was given to us. The 5,000 word story I would say should maybe go more in the middle so that way it doesn’t feel as stressful being in the end of the year. I would say that the short stories should go first, then the 5,000 word story and then the poems. I would say the poems last because they were a little easier to go through because you explained what needed to be done and how to do them very well. You also gave a lot of examples which helped a lot because without the examples
