Drug Addiction has become a serious issue in society today, with an increase in controversy leading towards the topic of whether drug addiction is a disease or a choice. Addiction and disease are two different things and understanding them is very important when it comes to drugs and how it affects the mind and body. The drug abuse is the most serious issue not only in United States but other parts of the world too. The statistic has shown that 24.4million of American including teens from age of 12, had used an illegal drugs. The primary purpose of drug is a medicine which is to cure diseases, but people in United States nowadays, have misused the usage of drugs by consuming them without recommendation or supervision from the expert.

Many drug addicts do not have jobs or any legal means of generating income; they resolve to criminal activities such as theft, robbery, or aggressive panhandling. Due to the addictive nature of drugs, the user will be compelled to want more and more in order to continue feeling “normal”. It is what fuels their addiction and as a result, a lack of motivation to do anything other than obtaining more drugs. The drug addict’s family suffers from the effects of the drug addiction as well through emotional stress and psychological decay. Drug addicts also encourage illegal drug trafficking by helping fund criminal organizations. In fact, drug addicts are the reason why the billion dollar drug industry is as lucrative as it is. Without drug addicts, drug traffickers would have no customers or buyers to help generate income. Huge amounts of tax revenue is going towards the war on drugs which includes money going into police departments, border agencies, harm reduction programs, and anti-drug campaigns. The tax money being used to fight drugs could be used to better our education or health systems; instead it is being used to fund harm reduction programs such as Insite.

Drug trafficking in the United States has established itself to be one of the most profitable businesses in today’s world (U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, 2004). There is such a high demand as more people buy, use and sell drugs for a variety of reasons, not really knowing all the risk that are at stake. With new laws in affect and more determined citizens of the U.S. everyone can help keep the streets clean. Drug trafficking is at an all-time high and must be brought to a halt.

The “War on Drugs” has been a hot topic for several decades in the United States. The argument for the success of this campaign usually varies depending on one’s political affiliation. The government handled the ongoing campaign differently with each new administration taking command, most of them having no little success. The fact of the matter is that the ideal of a “drug free civilization” is far from reality. The world is coming to terms that the various drug-fighting programs across the world are not producing the desired results. In fact, UN Office on Drugs and Crime doesn’t publicly aspire to reach a drug-free world. That wishful scenario seems very close to impossible at this moment. The office biggest claim to fame is that that the international drug markets have stabilized, which is not very optimistic.

It is clear that there have been increased occurrences of drug trafficking in the United States and the world as a whole. This increase in drug trafficking has resulted to a radical increase in the number of people who are affected by the illegal drugs. In the United States, the number has risen to about 19.9 billions. This paper will therefore discuss drug trafficking, its causes, effects, prevention and war against it. Whoever will read this paper, he or she will be able to take care of themselves from drug selling, consumption and production. The person will also be able to teach and help others on how to leave or protect themselves from drug abuse and trafficking.

I am writing to you, as to express my concern about the heroin abuse issue. According to a National Institute of Drug Abuse 2013 statistic, it states about 24.4million Americans including teens from age of 12 had used heroin in their daily life and this number is expected to be increased tremendously every year. Heroin has been invented only to be used in medical sector such as to relieve pain, but people nowadays have misused the usage of heroin by taking it without recommendation from the expert and some of them consume it in overdose amount. It seems to me that heroin abuse is a serious national problem, which does not only impact the drug user’s life, but the whole society as well as economy welfare. It can alter the function of the addicts’ brains, affect their reputation on careers’ performances, ruin their relationship with the loved ones and can result in a shorten life because of severe health disease. In addition to that, the crime rates will be increased, as they can act aggressively under the influence of heroin, which means they can commit violence without consciousness and they are willing to do anything such as rob or kill people, just to satisfy their need. This situation can get worse, as it can retard the economic growth of United States because the investors from other countries will not invest in a state, which has high social problems. The cartel’s narcotic poisons are even now damaging and destroying the lives of a significant portion of American youth. According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, in the year 2001, 19.5 percent of 8th Grade students, 37.2 percent of high school students in their sophomore year, and 41.4 percent of high school seniors used illegal drugs (Information). Illegal drugs, most of which come from Colombia, are poisoning the American youth. Drugs cause more than just the immediate problem of addiction. According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, suicide, truancy, cheating, and unhealthy family relationships pose greater risk for teenagers who take drugs than with their contemporaries who do not (Information).

Drug trafficking, a multi-billion dollar global business, is of growing concern to almost all countries around the world. To be specific, it has been a concern to all governments, as part of their job is the protection of the citizens. With the interference of drugs, it is not helping because it leads to many diseases, crimes and the death of many people. Drug trafficking is mainly the global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws; and illegal drug trade which is considered a global black market.

Drugs are widespread throughout political, economic and social problem. Implications for producing, transit and consumer nations. Ever since the mid-1980s, the drug problem increase over time and effort through drug dealers. The drug related criminality in major cities makes police officers develop effective force towards the dealing problem.

Drug abuse is too much consumption of drugs which results in problematic consequences as a result of the excessive consumption. The issue of drug abuse has presented major controversies as to whether or not is detrimental to health and should not be used or whether people have the absolute right to do whatever they may please with their lives so long as nobody else is being affected. The abuse of drugs has not only disastrous consequences for a drug user but his or her entire family as well. In the present times, the abuse of drugs is at its peak. Particularly in the third world countries and the developing countries, individuals and specifically youth has been involved in such nefarious activities which are only ruining their lives. At the name of freedom and liberty, many countries are disseminating such a mentality that every adult is free to his or her own life styles (Regier et al., 1990).

And everybody wants to sell him drugs through our door and our window”
