When I was in the second grade, I was having an extremely hard time reading. After several different tests, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is just a general term for disorders that involves difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters,and other symbols, but that does not affect general intelligence.
To address this problem, I attended the Masonic Learning Center in Evansville, Indiana twice a week for over three years. This facility taught me different ways to read and write which helped me overcome my disorder. Today, the dyslexia hardly affects me because I put in the work necessary to meet my personal standards. As a reader, I have always struggled. From the first time, I began to read to now. We never understood why until I was in sixth grade. In sixth grade, I was tested for dyslexia and as a result we found out I was dyslexic. Through my grade school and high school years We did everything and anything to help me to read better.
Once a week I would attend my dyslexia class to learn how to read,write, and speak english right. I had a hard time learning how to spell and pronounce long words. I would always walk into the class and get right to work because I wanted to be able to read the same as the other kids in my class. In and out of the class I would work on my reading by reading books or just looking at billboards why we drive from place to place.

Learning about dyslexia could help improve students performance in school. Encourage them when the student improves and that tells them to keep up the good work. When that is done, it makes that students feel proud and not put down since they may be slow learners in the classroom. Giving the student a sense of confidence in themselves will encourage them to do well. It sets them up for success. Dyslexia in children is a common problem; however, most of the time, it goes undiagnosed and untreated and this causes problems in the later stage. 15% of Americans suffer from a reading problem known as Dyslexia. These individuals who suffer from Dyslexia may, according to Webmd.com (2015), “have trouble with reading, writing, spelling, math, and sometimes, music”. When I think of Dyslexia, I think of someone who mixes up their numbers and letters around while reading. Growing up, I would mix up my numbers and letters (I still mix up my numbers from time-to-time) and was tested for Dyslexia. I was never diagnosed with being Dyslexic, but it was always something I thought about.
