Starved Rock Park is a beautiful, marvel that lies along the Illinois River just 90 miles West of Chicago. The park was named after a battle that took place in 1760 that involved the Ottawa Indian tribe. When the battle broke out among opposing tribes the Ottawa Indians were forced to take refuge on a giant rock. Several days after the battle, the tribe began to run out of resources and eventually starved to death, giving the rock and the park its name. The rich history of the area began in 8000 BC when the Archaic tribe first settled there. From then on tribes such as the Woodland, Hopewellian, and Mississippi have also inhabited the area. After the 1760 battle, however, Indian activity at Starved Rock Park declined leaving the area

In 1985, Memphis police officers were dispatched to a “prowler inside” call. Once officers arrived on scene, there was a women standing on her porch gesturing officers towards the adjacent home. The women told the officers she heard breaking glass and that someone was breaking into the home next door. An officer then went to the back door of the home and heard a door slam and observed someone running across the backyard. The fleeing suspect, later identified as Edward Garner, stopped at a 6 foot high chain link fence at the edge of the back yard. The officer with the aid of a flashlight was able to observe Garner’s face and hands and saw no obvious signs of a weapon. While Garner was kneeling down the bottom of the fence the officer yelled out “Police, Halt” while taking a few steps towards Garner. Garner than began to climb the fence and the officer believing that if Garner got over the fence he would avoid being captured, the officer shot him. The only thing on Garner was 10 dollars and a purse taken from the house.

On Monday, February 6, 2017 at 5:26 pm, Angeline Reynolds came to the Gautier police station and reported she had just been robbed. Reynolds was traveling south on Martin Bluff Rd, when she pulled off the road near the water tower by Interstate 10 to check and see if she had a flat tire. While doing so, a black male driving a red Chevrolet Colbalt (2004 or 2005 model), pulled over and asked if her brother-in-law, Bryce Reynolds was in the vehicle. Reynolds told the male that he wasn't and he walked over to her vehicle. The male had a handgun in his waist band and had a hand on it while he took $204 from her driver door pocket that was open. The male told Reynolds, "It's best you not come after me" and he left the area in his vehicle. Reynolds then called 911 while driving to the police station to report this incident.

On July 2, 2010 at approximately 10 P.M. a citizen called into the Brownwood Communication 911 Center advising that a family member was armed with a knife and threatening others. I and two other officers responded to the call. On arrival we observed that a male was standing in his kitchen holding a large knife to his chest. He had already injured one family member and was inside the residence by himself threatening suicide. The two other officers and I all had our guns drawn with one officer ordering the male to drop the knife. The subject continued to refuse and became more agitated and began screaming.
