In the video ‘Early Intervention: The Missing Link’ a presumably deaf woman explains how confident deaf people are, how they are not disabled, and how doctors should be more sensitive with families of deaf children. However, I think this is not only a presumptuous point of view, but also a fine example of how political correctness is slowly taking over society.

As an educator, I have strived to develop academic, social and emotional competencies in my students through creating a positive, enthusiastic and nurturing classroom environment with ample opportunities for hands-on experiences. I am passionate about fostering confident and curious lifelong learners by providing all students with opportunities to succeed in the classroom. I believe the role of a Early Childhood teacher is to address the necessary balance between academic facilitation within the classroom, and promoting a broadened cultural understanding of the world outside the classroom as a global citizen. To encourage each child to be themselves and help them gain self-esteem. Also, as a bilingual speaker I strongly believe in the importance of foreign language and cultural diversity, especially within the minds of young, developing learners.

Children are evaluated based on an Early Steps evaluation that determines the child's specific developmental and behavioral needs (Community Outreach, n.d.). The family's concerns, resources, and goals are also considered to include child and family specific needs to act as a guide to set up services. The goal is to empower the family through a comprehensive team of professionals with fewer appointments and more family time (Florida's Early Steps System, 2012).

There may be a recognised syndrome or disorder that causes language difficulty for the child and is not able to communicate with others. The child may have a lack of stimulation and support to provide the rich language experience necessary to develop speech, language and communication skills. For example at school, the setting may not have an enabling environment to stimulate the child’s different interests necessary for acquiring language. The books, music, songs and so on may not stimulate and interest the child.

Speech, language and communication difficulties can have a profound and lasting effect on children’s lives and development. These can affect their ability to communicate and interact with others. The impact of these difficulties will vary depending on the severity of the problems, the support they receive, the demands of the child’s environment

Maya Angelou once said, “It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” When diversity is valued people from all nationalities can work together, effectively using their expertise and abilities for the benefit of everyone. The Head Start program, a nationally funded early childhood education program, embraces this idea. Head Start was initiated in the late 1960’s as a way to give children in poverty an educational boost. As the program matured services for families became available. The program is receptive to the children’s ethnical background, culture, and linguistic heritage. The Head Start program, in the United States, provides services to “over 300,000 dual language learners”

There are many feelings that a parent will experience in handling a diagnosis of developmental delayed child. After dealing, with their personal feelings about the many issues that will have to be addressed. The parents have to develop a plan of action for their child that should involve early intervention, understanding educational programs/ services offered in their community, and transitional programs that will help prepare the child for life. Not to mention, “Parents acquired more information, their concerns decreased, their satisfaction increased, and they demonstrated an ability to transfer their learning to new situations.”(Reio & Fornes, p.54 2011). Parents will have to cultivate a train of thought for their child success in school and life.

John is a 20-year-old first year student at the university. He has been having unusual experiences which include hearing of voices which have become increasingly common. He has isolated himself from his friends and is no longer involved in activities that he used to do. He rather chooses to stay in his university room, listen to music and smoke cannabis. His upcoming exam is stressing him and has triggered persecutory delusions. John has a history of suicidal thought although he denies current suicidal ideation.

Since the 1900s the health care system provided services to young children with delays. These services were provided in the hospitals and health departments. If we look at the education system, they did not provide any early intervention services to preschool children until the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142) was legislated in 1975. When that happened the government encouraged schools to serve children under the age of 6. In 1985 there were eight states that provided services to children from birth through age 2 (Hanft, 1988, pg. 725). This agency is facing a number of extensive issues, among them, misconduct and lack of accountability. The problems within this department have extended outside of the agency concerning the mayor, city council, and the community members. This agency needs to show its community that it is dedicated to serving and protecting the public with the utmost honor and respect for the law. As a consultant for this agency, I have outlined a plan of action that will deal with the crucial problems within this department including the misconduct, the lack of accountability, high turnover rate, as well as how to inform the media on the new positive changes this office will undergo.

Early intervention and care can prevent most of the oral health diseases. Nevertheless, dental caries remains the most common chronic disease among children and adolescents in the United States (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). About 14.4% of children aged 3-5 years had untreated dental caries in 2009 -2010 (Dye 2012). In addition to pain and discomfort, untreated deciduous tooth caries can spread to roots and may lead to loss of tooth. This can subsequently affect the successor permanent tooth eruption leading to malocclusion which in turn can result in permanent teeth caries. Between 2007 and 2010, 15.6% of children aged 6-19 years had untreated dental caries (National Center for Health Statistics, 2014).

The project will be implemented in three small privately owned pediatrician offices. The stakeholders will include, the pediatricians and the nurse practitioner who will be implementing the project, and the other practitioners within the practice that’s not involved in the project and the office managers. Some barriers that may exist in implementing the project include, providers’ resistance to change, time constraints and lack or resources and support. Providers and stakeholders will be educated on the benefits and cost effectiveness of the intervention. The will be provided with statistics on the effectiveness of the intervention. A motivational interviewing specialist will teach the training session and will be available for support throughout

Speech and language delays can be problematic for preschoolers, school aged children and adolescents. These delays range in degree of severity and have many causes; physical and developmentally. Communication plays a specific and important role to all people, especially, preschool children who are developing speech and language skills at fast rate. The consequences of these delays can be devastating for the children affected and can follow them into adulthood. These effects may include academic problems, social and emotional issues and may even lead into mental illness. Children with speech and language delays need professional intervention as young as possible. However even with intervention, some children are still at risk of suffering
