The composer I have chosen to write about is Maurice Ravel. Maurice composed his songs in the Late Romantic period. During Maurice’s life many significant events occurred. In 1876 The Little Bighorn battle took place. Two years later in 1878 the Afghanistan War occurred, the U.S. Army entered Afghanistan on November 21st. In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president of the United States. These are some of the significant events that occurred during Maurice Ravel’s life time.
Maurice Ravel’s Early Life
Maurice Ravel was born on March 7th, 1875, in Ciboure, France. The family soon moved to Paris when Maurice was only 3 months old. It includes a snare drum, flute, violin, trumpet, and cymbals. The snare drum starts off the song with a nice calm beat. A few seconds later the flute comes in and make a very beautiful relaxing beat. The flute and the violin would switch on and off. You got the nice calm and relaxing beat for about 5 minutes. Towards the middle of the song the beat became very strong. The speed quickly changed to faster and much louder. This song sounds like if we were at a party in the olden days with all the different type of music.
Maurice Ravel’s death
Maurice Ravel died on December 28th, 1937 in Paris, France. In his mid 50’s he started to suffer with dementia. As the month’s passed it would get worse and worse. He could not write music anymore because he struggled so much and could barely write letters. A brain surgeon, Clovis Vincent wanted to do surgery on Maurice to see if he had a brain tumor that he could take out, but he did not. Two days after the surgery Maurice was conscious but then fell into a coma and died at the age of 62. This was the life of Maurice
In the novel, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the theme of growing up is prevalent throughout the book. Throughout the novel, a young mexican girl named Esperanza goes through experiences as she matures that involve her friends, society, dangers that expose her to the outside world and help her to realize what the real world is like.
The poem “Mothers and Daughters” is written by Pat Mora. Pat Mora is a contemporary award winning writer, who writes for children, youngsters and adults. She was born in El Paso, TX in the year 1942. She attains a title of a Hispanic writer; however, the most of her poems are in English. In her literary work, one can observe the different aspects of the immigrants’ lives such as language issues, family relationships, immigrants’ experiences and cultural differences (1187).
The definition of abuse is when someone uses cruel and violent treatment to negatively affect a person repeatedly. Abuse can come in a variety of ways, such as psychological abuse, mental abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and one of the most common yet overlooked is sexual abuse. In the book A Child Called IT, David Pelzer writes the story of his childhood. A child whose whole life was surrounded by abuse, his mother would beat him and hurt him in such a way that she left him almost dead in several occasions. Sharon olds wrote a series of poems that all seemed to link up together after reading them consecutively. I go back to May 1937 is dealing with changing her existence, Little things is about focusing on enjoying small things,
In the book entitled, There Are No Children written by Alex Kotlowitz, he writes a story about two boys that are of coming of age in Chicago in the housing projects called Henry Horner Homes over a two year time period. In their housing projects, the family faces many hardships and struggles to survive in life due to the influence of gangs, violence, death and poverty that consumes their housing projects. Living in such a bad neighborhood like Henry Horner homes proves the fact that “there are no children here” in the housing projects because the children have seen so much crime, violence and death occur that they have lost their youth and innocence as children and have been forced to become adults. An example of one character that changed dramatically due to the horrible conditions of in the projects was Lafeyette Rivers, one of the two main characters in the novel. The three most important events that impact Lafeyette’s life for the worst were the death of his best friend Craig, when his mother told him that he would be forced to become a young adult, and finally being convicted of a crime he did not commit in the first place. These three major events in his life greatly impact Lafeyette over the two year time period it causes Lafeyette to lose all hope in life and as well to live in constant fear of death and of his housing projects.
Humans and Weasels are from the same kingdom, but from different families. Weasels are part of the Mustelids family. The earliest Mustelids appeared roughly 35 million years ago. Weasels are the smallest Mustelids, weighing 1.2 to 2.4 ounces. There are about 10 different species of weasels. Weasels are furry mammals that are excellent hunters. Weasels are fearless carnivores. Weasels live in forests, meadows, and grasslands. They can be found in North America, northern South America, Europe, Asia, and north of Africa. Weasels can live up to 10 years.
In Kate Chopin’s story, “Desiree’s Baby,” written during the 19th century, Desiree is concerned that her child is of a distinct racial background. Her spouse, Armand, blames and accuses her of being half African-American. The worst problem she could ever imagine is to leave the one she admires the most, her husband. Feminist interpretation refers to the relationships encountered between separate genders. Like the article “Literary Theory” states, feminist interpretation presents the order of “behavior, ideas, enfranchisement, values, and power in correlation between the sexes” (Fung). In this story, society constantly blames women, even if they are not the ones at fault. Thus, accusation becomes apparent when Armand decides to blame Desiree for giving birth to an African American child. Throughout “Desiree’s Baby,” Chopin manifests the feminist perspective of women as subservient to their husbands when she portrays Desiree as a trite, compliant lady.
Even though one may think his life was cut off way to short, he left countless amazing works to remember him by. One of his pieces I will be exploring today was my personal favorite, Beethoven Symphony No. 9.
Lord carrington was absent from his estate and abroad on the continent, having retired his position of chief inspector. It was as Toussaint had guessed in his recount of the werewolf murders; the policeman’s life was a fancy which in time wore thin on the young man. Notwithstanding, as my comrade curiously noted, ‘Carrington’s absence is irrelevant’, for his business here is not with the gentleman, nor with the police per se, but due to a nagging itch that defied any contortive reach to be scratched.
One day he walked outside and a melody came to him. When he sat down to finish the composition, he decided to repeat the melody over and over again; 330 bars of the same melody only varying in volume. What seemed like a creative choice at the time, turned into a disease six years later. He began to forget things, as his memory was depleting. By 1935, he could not write or speak. Ravel tried to relearn the alphabet to no success. When he passed away, an autopsy revealed the left side of his brain had sunken in, leading to the conclusion of him having Frontotemporal Dementia
Track 4 ("Time"): This song began with the clattering of what sounded like coins in bottles. Those sounds crescendo until 0:19, when the alarm clock and church bells entered. The alarm clock and bells faded out at 0:51, ending that section. I was very happy when that section ended; I did not enjoy the alarm clock. A percussion instrument that sounded like a heartbeat kept a steady rhythm. The electric guitar entered a few seconds after the percussion instrument and started performing a minor second. It reminded me of “Jaws” during that section. At 2:00, the interval changed along with the percussion, which added bongo drums.
He was born on the 24th of January of 1916, in the middle of WWI. During the war, his familly went to Amiens to run away the horror of the war Henri was born there. At the end of the war, in 1918, the family went to Douai where Henri in 1926, started to study music at the Conservatoire of Douai. He was studying harmony and piano and theory. In 1933, he went to the Conservatoire of Paris, which is the most famous of France. During those years, he was in class with many other famous French musicians for example Leo Chauliac. In 1938, he won the first price of Rome. From 1939 to 1945, he didn’t compose much because of the war but he composed some short songs for the French Resistance.
Alexandre Cesar Leopold was born on October 25th, 1838 in Paris, France. Alexandre was baptized on March 16th,1840 and given the name Georges. His father was Adolphe Bizet, a hairdresser/wigmaker turned singing teacher with no familial background in the art of music. However, his mother was Aimee Delsarte, an accomplished pianist from a musically prominent family. Aimee’s brother, Francois was well-known singer and teacher who performed in many royal courts. Not only that, but Francois’s wife, Rosine, was a child prodigy and became an assistant professor at the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of 13. Georges Bizet did not have any siblings that spurred him along the road to success, but instead, the absence of siblings gave him the attention from his mother to begin practicing the piano. Through his practice, he seemed to learn both the basics of musical notation and how to read music quickly. After learning all of this, his parents believed he could make a career out of music, which led to his early acceptance into the Conservatoire de Paris at age nine. The minimum age to be accepted into the Conservatoire at that time was ten years of age. This proved Georges’ skill and determination at such a young age (Curtiss 3-14).
Known as one of the most popular composers of orchestral music, Ludwig van Beethoven left behind a legacy of musical pieces. Though Beethoven’s works spread throughout the globe, not many truly know what happened in his private life. Not only was he raised by an alcoholic father, but he also did not have a successful romantic life and even became deaf later in life. Beethoven, a musical prodigy, wrote hundreds of pieces of music and astounded the ears of mankind, yet lived a sorrowful life behind the scenes.

In the poem Young by Anne Sexton it talks about a girl. She is not a woman yet and she is outside in her yard at night. She tells us about her home. I think this poem is second degree American. Her home is what you would think of as an American home. It is big and white. the girl is the only child and her parents are in the house ready for bed already. A lot of families only had a couple of children when they had a bigger house. If they had a big house they were normally more on the wealthy side and they only had a couple of kids that they would spoil. Some families did have a lot of kids, but they normally lived on a farm. This is American because it tells a story about how cookie cutter her home is. It also tells us that she had lots of questions,
