Earth is uninhabitable because of rising oceans, worldwide storms, in addition to nuclear warfare. We have narrowed down our options to other planets that are suitable for humans to live in. A team of experts has come to the conclusion that human civilization needs to go back to its roots of early cities. They are afraid that our economy has gone astray and we need to connect back to basic human origins. A group of five thousand is sent down to inhabit this new planet and see if humankind can survive.
We picked a luscious planet surrounded by a huge forest containing tall trees including plants. Our city will be placed at the base of a mountain, surrounded by trees, and near two rivers. One river is behind the mountains and the other one is a couple miles away from the city, like the Egyptian civilization. When there is heavy rainfall, the rivers slightly overflow and create silt which helps fertilize the soil. The rivers flow northward into an ocean, which is great for fishing, traveling, plus protection. There is yearly flooding at the end of the summer that helps keep the soil moist, but not overly flooding. The typical temperature is sixty to seventy degrees Fahrenheit in the spring through fall. In the winter the temperature will range from thirty to forty degrees and it snows very little. In the spring, the snow melts down from the mountains and flows into the river creating clean water. The typical temperature is 60 through 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Our city is
The earth is constantly undergoing changes. This ranges from tectonic activity to atmospheric and climate changes. The most recent change that we have noticed, is the increase in temperature. Some believe that this increase is the result of human activity. However, this is not the case. The increased temperatures are within the normal tolerances from the past few thousand years (Robinson, Robinson, & Soon, 2008). This and other changes to the atmosphere have been going on for millions of years. Global warming is not our fault because it is a natural occurring phenomenon.
The world is in a constant state of change, today’s decisions will affect the future of all species large and small, defining the ways in which society will continue to live. The essay “No New Worlds” written by Dr. Adrian Forsyth explores ideas associated with ever changing populations and states of the world. The essay describes the existence of humankind by their impacts on the surrounding environments. The reader is then introduced to the implications our world faces if these problems are not solved and additionally steps to solving these issues. Thus, both men and women need to take action to help or pay the consequences and protect the only world we have, planet Earth.
On November 8th, American citizens will go to the polls and vote for the next president of the United States. During the presidential campaign, both candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, have their own different points of view on environmental issues. Hillary Clinton affirms her commitment to the fight against climate change. She supports the Paris Agreement, which is an agreement among many nations to respond to the threat of global warming and to reverse the worst effects of climate change. Donald Trump, by contrast, does not believe that the shift in the climate is a manmade disaster. He claims that global warming just is a hoax and current global warming is just a part of a natural cycle that is naturally occurring. Donald Trump, then, promises to dismantle the agreement if he becomes the U.S. President. It is important to note that many people and scientists share this same belief with Trump, protesting that global warming is a natural phenomenon. The debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump raises an important issue. Are people primary responsible for global warming? Global warming is due to many reasons; specifically, human activities are the major factors causing the planet to get gradually warmer over time.
Jessica Ann Olson, argues Al Gore’s points from, An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do about it. Olson plans to use Al Gore’s facts on global warming to support her college essay. Certainty, statistics reflect the impact of our poor choices and the environmental effects.
After the boring-billion, came drastic climate changes on Earth. The boring-billion came to a halt with the breakup of Rodinia. Rifts occurred at the bottom and the middle of Rodinia, creating new coastlines. Microbial life was able to flourish in this fragmenting world. Atmospheric oxygen increased with increased production of algal biomasses. These masses scavenged CO2 out of the air, causing Earth’s atmospheric greenhouse to weaken and its climate to cool. This made it possible for ice caps to form and grow at the poles. The ice and snow reflected more sunlight into space, causing a rapid cooling of Earth’s surface. The Earth was covered in a sheet of ice, hence the name White Earth. After millions of years, carbon dioxide emitted from volcanoes
We as a species have done many amazing things. We have clawed and fought our way to the top of the food chain. We put ourselves above animals and organized a society more advanced than anything else in the history of the earth. We started out on land. We built cars and trains. But we were limited to just the land. Then we took over the sea. We created boats and massive ships of steel. There was one more place to control. The air. We created vehicles that could take us higher than anybody could have possibly imagined. But we can’t stop there. In approximately five-billion years the sun will expand, engulfing the Earth, ending all life. About four-billion years before that though, it will start to expand. The oceans will boil, the land will be scorched, and only the hardiest creatures living underground will survive. That is why we need to search for a new home. And I believe we can develop the technology to get us there. In recent years we have made numerous technological advancements. On December
This paper explores the economic, environmental, demographical, and political cons of the human race’ future on another planet. NASA has come to the conclusion that in a few billion years, Earth will cease its existence and the human race will need to find another plant to live on. Although humans will need an alternative habitat to Earth, there are many disadvantages of relocating to the planet Mars. Due to the vast amount of money that is required for going on space missions, countries could potentially end up in debt with other countries. This can also cause an influx in the economy. The change in the environment may not be beneficial to human’s survival. With this, a collection of these influences can really hurt the human population by
Our city, named Riverview is located in Mexico and has a thriving population of 67,985 residents. Since most of our city is located on a high plateau and high elevations, Riverview enjoys mild, pleasant weather nearly all year. The temperature in winter averages between 68 and 74° 6 and in summer the average temperature is around 83° Fahrenheit. However, most of the city has temperate climates that are very favorable for settlement and agriculture. The Colorado River is located right below our city, so tourists can arrive on boats to look at our astonishing city. Our neighborhoods are placed on land, but our main city is supported by giant water filtration pillars above the river, saving space.. We have a massive bridge that connects the
Introduction: The only place in our galaxy that we know is inhabitable is now being destroyed by man. As humanity has revolutionized we have created many problems along the way. The main problem we are facing right now is called global warming. We have damaged many ecosystems trying to better ourselves, and we have not yet once thought about the damage we are inflicting on our mother earth. We are already beginning to see the effects of global warming. It will make little changes that will have a huge impact, and devastate many ecosystems and everything living on earth.
The article written by Franz and Mayer (2009) explains how an everyday situation or global issue is perceived as an emergency. In the article the authors focus on the emergency of climate change and why people are failing to take action. To help explain this, Franz and Mayer convey to us a system that includes five steps: step one, noticing the event; step two, interpreting the event as an emergency; step three, feeling personally responsible to act; step four, knowing what to do; and step five, implementing the required acts.
Climate change is the rise in the temperature of the earth’s surface mainly credited to the increased levels of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Climate change is a serious problem for the planet earth that have leaders from around the world worried about its effects. The rise of sea level, the melting of the glaciers on Antarctica due to the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is threatening the life of people living in many different big cities around the world. Climate change is the cause of many natural disasters such as tsunamis, hurricanes, snowstorms and typhoons. In the fall of 2012 a very powerful hurricane Sandy swept the East coast of the United States, mainly the New York and New Jersey area, leaving many dead, homeless and heartbroken. In May 2016, a wildfire destroyed the community of Fort McMurray, in northern Alberta a province in Canada. The damage reported by the Calgary Herald is estimated to $6.9 Billion. Over the last three years the US has experienced Snowstorms in the Northeast, heat waves in the Midwest and Wildfire in the West coast. Those natural disasters related to climate change are also happening in other countries all over the world. If we don’t react quickly, climate change will destroy our planet.
Global warming is not only affecting the earth, but it is also affecting many animals at a very alarming rate. One species of animal that has been affected in a major way are seals. The species of seals consist of harp, hooded and ringed seals. The lives of seals are being threatened by the climate change that is happening throughout many arctic, antarctic regions, and other areas of the world. Due to climate change caused by global warming in the arctic and the antarctic regions, rapid ice loss has occurred, which is affecting seals at an alarming rate. “With the rapid ice loss in the arctic and antarctic regions, many subspecies of seals are currently racing against the ticking clock climate change. The worldwide status of seal population
The phrase “global warming” is all too familiar for most of us. It is a matter addressing our changing climate, and it is one of the most controversial topics of the time. Issues on global warming come from recent changes in our climate: some attribute this to increased involvement with the Earth’s macro-ecosystem, and some people attribute these things to random acts of nature, and some attribute this to patterns of nature that has nothing to do with human involvement, and some people have an opinion somewhere in the middle, forming a loose and manipulable opinion or simply not forming one. Most people, even those who care little, recognize that global warming, or the change of the climate, is probably cause by some degree of human involvement. Unfortunately, there is a noticeable dividing line between viewpoints, and other variables go in to whether someone should back those view points, but this in not explicitly true for all people.
“Every cubic inch of space is a miracle.”- Walt Whitman. A big question is floating around the world; is space the answer to the survival of the human race? Astronomers approve this theory and say yes space is the answer to humanity 's survival. This is because the earth is running out of time due to the greenhouse effects. The greenhouse effect is radiation that is emitted by the sun that destroys our atmosphere. Without the atmosphere, there will be no air, and without any air humans and almost all other species will not survive. There are ways humans can save the human race. Finding a new planet to live on is astronomers number one task because the Earth doesn’t have much time. Astronomers have invented new technology that enables humans to find habitable planets. If humans do not find a new planet to live on, life as humans knows it will end.
With July 2013 recorded as one of the worst snowfalls in the history of Australia winters, well concerned fears are fulminating regarding the future of the ski industry, namely the ski resorts that reside in the Snowy Mountain region including Thredbo, Perisher, Charlotte’s Pass and the Selwyn Snowfields, and several major Victorian ski resorts including Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek. The Alps are the only region on the Australian mainland in which deep snow falls naturally, however, with the ongoing impact that global warming has left upon our natural environment, it feels ominously close that the premonition of a snow-deprived winter may be as soon as 2050. More erratic looking winters have confirmed the beliefs of many that the ski industry may not be viable beyond the mid-century mark, given that the ski industry’s economic viability is highly sensitive and contingent on the number of days with good snow cover that are received each year. According to a government commissioned report, the ski industries initial fears are well-founded with ski seasons to be predicted to be 10 weeks shorter, and the snow depth considerably declined. While some may reflect upon the 2013 winter and overlook the enormity of the issue, scientists predict that the impact of global warming means the long-term outlook for the ski-industry is bleak, and not positive. Not only does a lack of snowfall presents environmental consequences, but also poses a series of consequences
