Effective Interpersonal Communication Analysis

When this assignment was given out, I instantly knew exactly what relationship I wanted to analyze: my ex-boyfriend’s and my relationship. It might sound like an odd relationship to choose, seeing as he is an ex, and it might not sound like a good starting point, but let me first say he is one of my best friends right now.

Communication is vital in today’s society. The purpose of communication is to relay messages in the most clear and concise appropriate manner. Transferring data involves both the sender and receiver of a message. Communication can be misinterpreted, sent with confusion and often misrepresented. Effective communication is the key to getting messages across and with minimal confusion and errors.

Evaluating my Interpersonal Communication competence is not an everyday activity, as I rarely think about whether or not I communicate effectively. Sometimes I mistakenly assume that my ability to be a good communicator is confirmed by my success in networking and interviews. In reality, this is not accurate. Throughout our whole lives, we spend the majority of our time communicating in some way or form. Many people in today’s society are uninformed of all the key concepts and importance of communication, such as interpersonal communication. One major concept in the field of communication is Interpersonal Communication. Many concepts of Communication can be demonstrated in everyday life or even in our favorite movies. This analysis is from the movie, “Blind Side”. There are many concepts of Interpersonal Communication included in this film. Self Concept, Self Esteem, Stereotype, Perception, and Stages of Relationship are just a few concepts that are utilized throughout this movie.

Information plays an important role in the way we interact with each other and the world we share with other members of the planet. We depend on information for guidance, protection, companionship and nearly all aspects of our daily interactions. Verbal communication is considered has written and oral words we share or exchange with others, for instance, the conversation we have with our friends online, co-workers during lunch, messages to our significant other, etc. Effective verbal communication is dependent on various factors which include but not limited to the following: pronunciation (accents), dialects, clarity, speed and non-verbal clues, during most interactions the initial words or information shared will determine the outcome of that interaction. Our daily conversations are mostly based on the current happening, our specific job role. Etc., I have documented my verbal interaction for a day and I aim to share that information in relation to the most and least frequently language functions used.

The most successful law enforcement officers are those that are able to find solutions and yet uphold enforcement without resorting to other use of force methods as most fights can be won with the right and positive attitude. Therefore, it is essential that the use of effective interpersonal communication is the numer one compliance tool and resource for law enforcement officers.
