Being an administrator within an urban district that processes the ability to sustain teacher capacity, requires a complex set of skills and competencies that are multi-faceted. These qualities include knowledge, effective communication and commitment.
First, administrators must possess a wealth of knowledge. This knowledge must include effective pedagogical practices, the process of learning, formative / summative assessments and knowledge of staff strengths and weaknesses. They must also be well versed in the ability to analyze data then design an effective instructional program for all students including the exceptional (gifted / disabled).
During the summer of the school year 2013-2014 the leadership team at Kenilworth Elementary School (Grade Level Chairs, PDLTS and Principal) analyzed data for the school. We noticed that our school historically scores between 80% - 95% on mathematics portion of the MSA. As fourth grade

In order to address these needs, I developed an after school program. This was a twelve week program that met for an hour twice a week. The program included 24 students split evenly among two teachers. The program that I designed for these students comprised of manipulatives, technology and performance tasks provided to be very effective. The pre-assessment unveiled an average math fluency (multiplication) of 34/100 facts in 5 minutes and 12% effective use of terminology in written responses. At the conclusion of the after school program the post test results showed a math fluency of 82/100 facts in 5 minutes and 56% effective use of terminology in written responses.
In order to be an effective administrator, this knowledge must encompass all grade levels. The knowledge of the curriculum will allow you to plan collaboratively, plan intervention / enrichment activities and design effective
Based on my experience in the classroom and my educational background, I want to pursue a certification as a K-12 administrator because I want to help and work with a larger population of students. My desire to enhance the culture and community in a school building has come from working with three amazing, passionate, and dedicated administrators (one principal and two vice principals) in my school building. Their drive to positively influence the lives of students, collaborate with parents, and enhance the teaching styles of all the faculty members in the building, has motivated me to want to do the same. A new challenge is presented every day in a school building, and I want to be part of an administrative team that will successfully work together to overcome each and every obstacle in order to better the educational experience of students.
Pedagogy is a word that is used to describe the art and science of teaching. Pedagogical roles are the many and varied that a teacher may perform while teaching, such as structuring, soliciting, responding and reacting. Other roles involve assessing, criticising, discussing, encouraging, enquiring, evaluating, explain, giving individual instruction, lecturing, organising, presenting, questioning and answering, repeating and reviewing and team teaching and tutoring etc.
Having a vision in mind, they would have a backup plan if a teacher decides to
Efficient administrators must make certain their schools are in compliance with district, state, and federal educational guidelines. These statutes include identifying and delivering specified instructional lessons for students who qualify for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the students who qualify for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Academic leaders who ensure compliance among these regulations and educate themselves on the appropriate instructional practices, will properly assist their teachers and students in finding academic success.
According to Table 1.2, the following categories fell within close range to the mean: number sense, attends to print, basic reading, articulation, communication (receptive), matching, pre-writing, colors, and shapes. It is evident through this data analysis that most students are at the emerging stage of ability levels, implicating that they require some level of prompting to ensure they produce a correct response. It is concluded that students require continued instruction with addition, reading, and working independently are skills that require continued instruction. Division, multiplication, graphing, and telling time were areas that all students found to be the most challenging, thus these findings confirmed my original assumptions,
Dr. David Bolton has had an interesting spring, to say the least. He has served in the capacity of the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education in Central Bucks for two years. At the end of Dr. Bolton’s second year, the retiring Superintendent planned to retire officially on May 30, 2016 but in a series of events involving new School Board members, he was asked to clean out his office on Monday, May 9, 2016. The Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education also retired early in March of 2016, leaving Dr. Bolton currently with the title of Substitute Superintendent until a new Superintendent begins on June 6, 2016. Dr. Bolton has been completing tasks since March as Elementary and Secondary Assistant Superintendents and Substitute Superintendent all at once. My original interview was scheduled with the outgoing superintendent during the week of his departure. In light of this complication, Dr. Bolton was gracious enough to answer my questions in an email but I was unable to interview him in person or on the phone due to his busy schedule.
A bachelor degree with at least two years’ administrative experience in an education institution or similar environment, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
Management of people, schedules, facilities, and resources are a large part of the job description of an administrator. I have worked with my boss to allocate money for buying texts for our Special Education population to facilitate MAP practice throughout the year. I was unaware of the huge amount of monies schools work with each year and have to efficiently allocate to make sure all learning needs are met and the most effective learning environment is created.
In regards to administrative responsibility, since we are a small school and we have fewer administrative positions than the larger districts, our administrators have to wear a lot of different hats. They have to take care of our own professional development, curriculum team meetings, after-school supervision, etc. There is no assistant principal or curriculum director to help take care of these needs. Finally, all fiscal decisions go through the superintendent.
This administrator works heavily with guidance counselors and department heads guiding the school’s instructional plan. This administrator’s shortfall would be the classroom experience especially in the subject areas that are heavily tested.
The role of instructional leader at Napavine Jr. Sr. High School is one of shared respect. The administrators’ role is that of manager. He oversees the operation of the building, the curriculum selection, staff’s adherence to state and federal mandates, student behavior and staff behavior. The principal expects teachers to teach the curricula selected by teachers and to adhere to the general attendance and behavior expectations set forth by our mission statement. His role is to guide staff and students to meet these expectations. Jason keeps apprised as to when each department is allowed to adopt new curriculum and then gives that department time during the school year to meet and plan for the adoption. He participates in curriculum meetings, but ultimately allows teachers to select what is best for their department. He guides staff by reminding them of federal and state mandates and the district budget.
Since its development in 1994 the standards of Educational Leadership have pursued promoting an understanding on what is expected from the educational administration field.1 The goal of this paper is to present a personal appraisal of a connection between the ELCC standards and my own experiences in district leadership and a reflection on my professional practice of the standards. It is implicit that an educational leader should promote the success of every student by advocating and effectively implementing the 6 standards of Educational Leadership. 2

This essay will be analysing the most effective pedagogic principles for teaching in the early years or reception class. Teaching a specialism of any matter requires the teacher themselves to be competent and confident with their own abilities first. To be a competent carpenter requires lots of experience, dedication and time – without dedication, you will not put in the time and in turn not gain the experience. Hence dedication is a fundamental element, which is expressed to all the construction students at Harlow College, in order for them to succeed. Dedication goes hand in hand with motivation, motivation is developed from enjoyment. Therefore making a positive rapport between student and teacher is a very important because ‘good teacher-student relationships are based on mutual respect. The student respects the teacher for their teaching skills, personal qualities, knowledge and professionalism’ (Petty, 2004) which puts emphasis on the teacher who is at the core of the motivation behind any prosperous student.
