Unit 502: Effective skills, qualities and attitudes for learning and work
Sample scheme of work
Effective skills, qualities and attitudes for learning and work is a three-credit mandatory unit for either an Award or Certificate at Level 2. This is the only mandatory unit at this level and, although it is expected that this unit will be started first, it is likely to be the last unit completed.
Unit 502 can be delivered and assessed as a stand-alone unit but is usually used in conjunction with other units to contextualise coverage of the learning requirements. This scheme of work is an example only. It is a flexible tool and covers both classroom and project- based learning.
This scheme of work is based on ten sessions of 2 hours

As children move onto key stage one learning objectives are then aligned with 12 strands of the national primary literacy framework. [Louise Burnham, Brenda Baker,2010,pg206]
Today I am going to discuss the skills that I believe are necessary to be successful in today’s workforce. A skill that I believe is critical in the workforce is an understanding of basic technology. A hard work ethic is a key to success in the workforce today as well. Having an eagerness to learn will allow the individual as well as the organization to advance in unparalleled ways.
The school’s curriculum priorities focus on literacy, numeracy and science and provides a range of enriching learning opportunities and experiences for students (Victoria Point State School, 2015). In regard to literacy and numeracy, the school aims to increase reading and number understanding by coordinating focus reading groups across year level cohorts and offers focus numeracy groups with additional teacher aide support (Victoria Point State School, 2015). Furthermore, to assist with reading and numeracy support, the school has additional teachers and teacher aides to target this (Victoria Point State School, 2015).
It demonstrations that I can interpret the data and validity of assessments results and communicate those results to partners and families in language they understand. Ages & Stages is a screen to determine if the child is has any delays in five developmental areas: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal-social and determine if future screening are recommended. The toddler was screen over a 2 day period with mother present the screening data suggested, giving his age should be referred to First Steps for further assessments in language, gross motor skills and cognitive
The skills needed to be successful in today's workforce have changed somewhat for the better and somewhat for the worse, depending on the job. At some places that people are hired it seems like they hardly have to have any skills in order to get the job. Other places require a lot of skills before someone can even be hired and certain degrees must be obtained and tests must be taken. Fast food restaurants, grocery stores, and other restaurants should be a lot more strict about the types of people that they hire. There are certain skills that are required to be successful while working today, and there are some extra skills needed in jobs that involve working with people. Depending on the job, some skills can be learned during college or training
The assessor must adhere to the centre’s equal opportunities, equality and diversity policy at all times when assessing learners. Every effort should be made to avoid discriminatory practices. Particular assessment requirements of learners must be identified and met where possible. This is to ensure learners with particular requirements have access to appropriate materials/equipment/facilities to support them.
2.2 As a teacher, we also have limitations and there are times that we were not able to meet the learners need, therefore, it is a must and our responsibility that we are aware of all necessary referrals or support that are available in your organisation for the benefit of your students. This could be the head teacher, your colleagues, or any outside organisation that could help in meeting their needs.
Students with reading accommodations may require modifications to fully access the content and activities in this cornerstone task. Teachers may want to differentiate by:
According to O*NET OnLine, the skills I need to be successful in my career path include critical thinking, reading written and oral comprehension, active listening, complex problem solving, writing, speaking, time management and social perspectives among others. All of these are skills that I have enhanced in colloquium. In regards to critical thinking, I believe that I have mastery of the skill; on all my papers and reflections I have earned cheek and cheek plusses. Moreover, in the comments my grader frequently mentions things like “Excellent Job! I really enjoyed reading your reflections!” this leads me to believe that I am consistently and effectively understanding the concepts and thinking deeply about what is being taught (“Refugee Simulation”
Learners’ particular literacy, language, numeracy and ICT needs can be established through initial assessment, talking to learners, observing them completing activities or using simple self assessment tests.
The Skills and Qualities Necessary Required to Establish and Maintain an Effective Working Relationship In this essay I have chosen to explore the skills and qualities
In a world where students are often told to get the grade, memorize the answer, and have technical abilities, it is extremely important that they remember what soft skills are and why they are needed. Students need to remember that school is meant to prepare them for college as well as a career. The issue in all of this arises when employers complain about the lack of soft skills that new employees are bringing into companies. The bigger issue being why were these students given diplomas and degrees, if they didn't have what it takes to be in the work industry? Soft skills need to be better incorporated in learning curriculums, specifically middle grades, leading to higher college and career success rates.
Up until now I have never thought about any skill or attribute that distinguishes me from everyone else. I know there is something that makes me stand out of the crowd, just as there is for everyone, but I have struggled in what that special skill is. I strongly believe that these skills which we all possess do not show themselves until we reach adulthood and move onto college. I say this because as we are growing up, most of us do not do our school work because we are thinking of our future. We do our work because we are forced to do so until we are eighteen years of age. Some people will drop out of school at that point, or graduate high school without going any further. I was one of those kids that did not put any effort into school work, and I also knew many people who were the same way, however here I am writing an essay for my college about which skill makes me unique. So why did I say that our skills will not show themselves until adulthood, or college? I said this because at this point, we have a choice. We are not forced to continue with our education, many of us just decide to do it because they want to, and they know that a better future is awaiting them. People who are in college are there because they want to be, and we all have our own unique way of making great achievements and moving further in our education. These are our skills. When I think of skills, I do not thing about being able to do cool tricks that others are incapable of, or being better than
It is important to support the development of language, literacy and numeracy at this early stage as it forms the basis for each child’s future learning needs and ability and will also allow you to observe and understand if there is a need for additional support. It will also help children to grow and to become confident, educated individuals and succeed in their life goals.
