Era 4 Eastern and Western Religion Comparisons

“All Religions are all the branches of the same exact tree.” (Albert Einstein) Even arguably the smartest or one of the smartest people to ever live says that all religions are very similar in many ways. Era four was the beginning to four of these religions that Einstein was talking about, and they took part in Eurasia at the time. Two of the religions that were on they west side of Eurasia were named Christianity and Judaism. The other two religions on the east side of Eurasia were named Buddhism, and Hinduism. These books were called the Torah for Judaism, The Bible for Christianity, The Zend Avesta for Zoroastrianism, The Vedas for Hindus, The Tripataka for Buddhism, The Daodejing for Taoism, and lastly The Anelects for Confucianism (Prentice Hall, World History 1167). All these books held stories and the ideas of each religion. Also these religions also had a creation story that taught how they thought the Universe was made like how god made everything or a lot of gods made everything. They all benefited from the idea of writing of their opinions and beliefs down, and it allowed them to get their religion to other places at a faster rate than before. All of the religions also had a person or some superior figure go through a trial period or a hardship in order to learn something important. For example in the west, Christianity had Jesus that suffered and died on a cross in order to save their people from their sins (Wikipedia). In the east, they have a similar concept in Buddhism where the Buddha had to go through several trials and tribulations to find out what the eightfold path is which allows people to achieve nirvana (Thrall). Both the west and the east had very similar struggle points for a person in each religion which is very interesting because of how apart the religions were. The Western religions, Christianity and Judaism even had the same moral codes and that is the Ten Commandments (Thrall). These Commandments also known as the Decalogue include: You Shall have One God and no one else; You shall have no idols; You shall not use God’s Name in vain; You shall keep the Sabbath day holy; You shall honor your father and mother; You shall not kill; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not lie against your neighbor; You shall not covet anything of your neighbors. In these religions you will be permitted into heaven if you follow all the rules (Wikipedia). There is a very similar list of moral codes in the Eastern religions called the eightfold path. The laws of this path involve: You must have the right view, You must have the right resolve, You must have the right speech, You must have the right conduct, You must have the right livelihood, You must have the right effort, You must have the right mindfulness, You must have the right samadhi or you must know how to meditate right. The religions that follow these morals are Buddhism, and Hinduism (Thrall and Wikipedia). Buddhism follows these codes in order to achieve a state of enlightenment called Nirvana. Hinduism Follows these rules to have a better life in the next life because they believe in rebirth. All these religions across Eurasia may have different perceptions of
