Technology is very advanced now a days but how was it back in the 1980’s? Although people back then still had technology, it wasn’t as advanced as it is now. We take all the things we have now for granted, such as Television, our computers, cars, etc. We can’t forget about what the science back then was like too. They didn’t have many vaccines as we do now or that much knowledge about astronomy. Many inventions have taken over everyone’s lives, even in the 1980’s.
First, in the 1980’s technology was very limited but it was still there. For example, television. Although they didn’t have much cable and most TV shows were in black and white, people still got addicted to it. In my opinion, this is the biggest invention in the 1980’s that had a toll on society. Everyone would

Many discoveries have been found in the 80s such as the orbiting satellite that was launched in 1989. It began observing the relict radiation from the earliest years of the universe. Evidence gathered shows that the radiation from as much as 90 percent of the matter of the universe has so far gone undetected. Another being the increasing evidence suggested the possibility of giant black holes in the centers of some galaxies. On November 12, the NASA space probe Voyager makes its closest approach to Saturn when it flies within 77,000 miles of the planet's cloud-tops and sends the first high resolution images of the world back to scientists on Earth. The astronomy in the 80’s were somewhat getting more advanced in this time.
Technology and science has come a long way. Such as the Television, Medical advancements, the discovery of ancient artifacts and our knowledge on astronomy. Many inventions have taken over people’s lives even in the 1980s, as they do now a days. They weren’t as advanced as they are now but the little technology the 80’s had still had a big impact on society and the way people with different incomes were
Everyone has always wondered if people were ever watching them. Our technology today is capable to eavesdrop in on anyone’s conversations even if their phones are turned off. In the novel, “1984”, the party INGSOC uses telescreens to watch over the people and always know what they are up to. This denies the people’s rights and privileges to go about their business as they please. The technology we have today is almost exact to what big brother uses in George Orwell’s novel by taking over the public and private parts of our lives.
Through out George Orwells 1984, the use of telescreens is very efficient and effective for the Party. On the other hand it plays a very hard role on our main character, Winston. Through out the novel, he lives in fear of the telescreen and is ultimately taken by the mighty power that is the Party, all in help by the telescreen. The watchful eye of the telescreen is not totally fiction though, in many places it all ready exists.Winston is a worker who's job is to change history to make sure that its "correct" by the Parties standards. He meets a lovely girl Julia and falls in love. They together try to find life and happiness together, and also they want to find the resistance, or the group of people that they figured existed
Technology has changed drastically from the 1970s to now. We have exceeded what most people back then could ever imagine. The technology used in schools, homes, and in public places has evolved into technology that makes the “cutting edge” technology of the 70s look very simple. Things such as the personal computer, the cell phone, electronic games, TVs, and even watches have changed completely. The ways that they have exceeded expectations is truly unbelievable.
You ask what’s so special about technology? A surprising number of the technologies that define life today got their start in the 1980s. Technology has come to benefit our lives and make it easier. See what happened in the 80s, what was popular, and the influence on technology.
The 1980’s was a time of prosperity throughout America. From the Calendar that went from January 1st to December 31st to the increase of jobs. This decade was full of good changes socially, economically, and politically.
The events that are affected by the 1980s decade was music, music has influenced the 1980s so much with Madonna and Michael Jackson. Madonnas hair was all the rage, big curly hair with ratted bangs as high as you could get them she was the queen of the 1980s her fashion influenced so much of the 1980s, girls were curling there bangs just like Madonna she was an icon everyone looked up to her.
The spirit of the 1980’s was born of previous decades. America’s victory in World War II hurled the nation into a society which became faster with each decade. The 1950’s, thriving on a time of high job opportunity, rolled into the 1960’s time of activism of human rights for all peoples. Women’s rights, African-American rights, and antiwar dominated the minds of many Americans in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Meanwhile, to the pleasure of the children, cable television’s quality improved and shows transitioned from grayscale to color. As the 1980’s hit with the Cold War stretching for its fortieth
was changing. Technology, entertainment and the population all saw intense differences. We owe much to the technologies of the late 19th century. This age included the development of communication technology including the
The era of the 1990’s was an explosive time in American history both figuratively and literally. In the 90’s there was an extreme variety of different failures and also advances in technology. We as a nation had new advancements in space travel, our military and the way of life preparing for the turn of the century. As a country we didn’t know what the new millennium had to bring for us, but we were ready. Most significantly changing America though was from our creativeness that took place, the fear we had, and our militaristic ways.
The 40’s were best known for World War II, but did you know that Velcro was invented during this time period? In the 1940’s, technological changes occurred with their effects being both positive and negative, but these effects have benefited society more by being the basis of many things used today. The technology in the 1940’s had undergone many changes.
Nineteen eighty-four. Published in 1949, a novel containing the main character, Winston Smith and his everyday struggle to survive in a totalitarian government. In the novel, George Orwell describes the atmosphere of London, England using 3rd person limited. One of the ways he vividly describes the atmosphere of the current time is through the use of technology. The government managed to manipulate London’s population through technologies such as, telescreens, cameras, microphones, and the “thought police”. When writing the book, George Orwell’s perspective on technology was way beyond his decade. He envisioned technology to a highly advanced level which may have been nonexistent then, but now is reality. The unexpected effect technology
Later, the seventies brought an economic downturn, which did not last too long. Technology was no the horizon, bringing things like the mini transistor, and eventually the microchip. This brought on a new revolution. Companies promised paperless offices and copy machines replaced secretaries. Eventually computers increased production in offices and factories. Growth opportunities in semiconductors spawned new markets and even new areas like Silicon Valley.
Technology has enabled us and our abilities, to change the world. It has allowed us to move things from one place to another and alter the world in such a way that suits us best. Technology was perceived during the nineteenth century as very different from science. In the earlier times, technology was a result of personal experience. Know how was handed down from experts to learners over the years, whereas science was practised and taught by educated people in universities and schools. This social distinction, however, began to blur
It is amazing that technology has changed the world around us, within just two decades. Some of the technologies include instantaneous communication, realistic looking games, information at the tip of you fingers, and personal computers. These are some of technologies that affect our lives so much. Without them, we could not call it the modern age of man kind.
I was born in the 80’s, so technology as, I know it, was beginning to take aim at the
