Chapter One- Pollution Have you even wondered about how much we hurt the environment? Probably not, most people don’t realize this. Humans depend on the environment so much, but we take it for granted. We hurt the environment every since time we leave the lights on, drop things in the sewer, or when we don’t recycle. You may ask, how can doing these little mistakes affect something so huge. Well this chapter is gonna change your mind.
Air Pollution Air pollution is a major problem in the world and everyone is responsible for this. Every time you leave the lights on you waste electricity and to make electricity we make a lot of pollution. Imagine every second you left the lights on and now because of that

(And yes, it 's really happening.) Over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. And experts see the trend is accelerating: All but one of the 16 hottest years in NASA’s 134-year record have occurred since 2000. Climate change deniers have argued that there has been a “pause” or a “slowdown” in rising global temperatures, but several recent studies, including a 2015 paper published in the journal Science, have disproved this claim
What causes global warming? Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants(like Methane Ch4)and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. Normally, this radiation would escape into space—but these pollutants, which can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trap the heat and cause the planet to get hotter. That 's what 's known as the greenhouse effect. In the United States, the burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest source of heat-trapping pollution, producing about two billion tons of CO2 every year. Coal-burning power plants are by far the biggest polluters. The country’s second-largest source of carbon pollution is the transportation sector, which generates about 1.7 billion tons of CO2 emissions a year. Curbing dangerous climate change requires very deep cuts in emissions, as
The environmental issue for my Milestone project is Air pollution. Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, and many harmful substances into Earth 's atmosphere, causing diseases, allergies, and death to humans, damage of other living organisms like animals and crops, or the natural environment (National Geographic, 2016). Georgia air pollution has been a focus for many years. Environmental protection Agency and Clean air act has been one of the main contributors to controlling environmental air pollution from increasing. The research is on scholars, chemicals and gases connected to air pollution and health hazards. Solution for Georgia is conserving, alternative energy and renewable resources.
You can’t escape from it. Everybody has to breath, and when air isn’t clean you health is affected. Air pollution is problem of all of us. You might think that you are healthy because you eat, and do only healthy things, so you cannot be sick, or get cancer, allergies or even die. Everybody is affected by air pollution.
There are various reasons as to why global warming is happening, but it is mostly caused by greenhouse gases. An article entitled, “Global Warming and the Neglected Greenhouse Gas,” the author, Andrew Jorgensen states that the greenhouse gas emissions are the “second largest anthropogenic contributor to global warming” (Jorgensen 2006). The Greenhouse gases that are found in earth’s atmosphere are water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide which help increase and maintain the earth’s temperature. Most of the earth’s energy comes from the sun, and when
Earth’s 2016 surface temperature was recorded as the warmest year since 1880, and 2017 is on track to be one of the three warmest years on record (NASA). The rate of climate change has been growing at alarming rates in recent years, and it is projected to continue increasing at higher rates in the near future. The negative effects of climate change are seen in the decline of human health and wildlife. While the United States government is attempting to diminish the effects of climate change, more regulations must be passed by Congress in order to minimize the pollution in the environment, decrease damage to wildlife and lower the average temperature on Earth.
Many advances of modern technology come with unpleasant side effects. In many cases, these side effects occur in the form of air pollution, resulting in previously unforeseen environmental issues. While air pollution has negative effects on many organisms within an ecosystem, a problem caused by air pollution that is affecting humans worldwide is an increase in both number and severity of bronchial asthma and allergic respiratory disease, particularly for those living in urban areas.
What is causing global warming? Global warming occurs when CO2 and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases go up to the upper atmosphere and soak up all the sunlight and solar radiation that bounced off the Earth's surface. Before this radiation and heat would go into space, but these gases, which can last for years to centuries in the atmosphere, trap the heat like a solar blanket causing it to get warmer. In the United States, the burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest producer of thread to make the solar blanket, producing about two billion tons of CO2 every year. The USA’s second-largest source of air pollution is the transportation section, which creates about 1.7 billion tons of CO2 emissions a year.
Growing up with busy parents lead me to looked forward to car rides. I remember that I would rush to the car in pure excitement so that I can view the beautiful skies dashing pass me as I talk to my parents. It did not matter where we would go or do, I did not care, as long as I got to be in the car with my family. Music quietly played in the background as the sun set and my eyes would grow heavy and soon I would be sound asleep. It was not until recently when I visited New York City that I fully awoken to the harsh reality of automobiles. My memory of the once magnificent skies darkened by smog and the music could no longer be heard over the loud noises of destruction.
To the untrained eye a person may say what does air pollution has to do with an ecosystem? This is very simple, but to further explain we have to define air pollution and ecosystem. According to eschooltoday.com an ecosystem is “An ecosystem includes all of the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in a given area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments (weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, and atmosphere) (eschooltoday, 2010). Air Pollution according to http://eschooltoday.com “occurs when gases, dust particles, fumes (or smoke) or odor are introduced into the atmosphere in a way that makes it harmful to humans, animals and plant. This is because the air becomes dirty (contaminated or unclean) (eschooltoday, 2010). As we look at an ecosystem it basically means ecological systems, in which ecology is the study of ecosystems. This includes the life cycle of living things and how those things interact with each other and the surrounding land, whereas air pollution is toxics and gases that can harm those living things and the environment.
Imagine living in a world where smog is everywhere and wearing a mask is the only way to step outside. Since the smog is betting so bad, it is impossible to see outside a window. Now, imagine a world where people have learned to use alternative energy. Gas powered cars are rarely ever used and power companies only produce alternative energy sources. No one has to worry about carbon emissions causing global warming ever again. Living in this type of world is almost impossible due to the fact that too many factories are releasing carbon emissions into the air. Factories that are essential in producing electricity and cars are burning fuel and release carbon emissions into the air.
Pollution has no boundaries and can never be controlled, it seems as a health issue rather than just environmental issue. The factors affecting pollution are vehicles, Industries and forest fires and due to these factors, the environment is contaminated and affects the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. India is facing quite a serious pollution problem in many cities such as Delhi, Gwalior, Allahabad, Patna, and Lucknow according to the reports of WHO and with the recent problem being in Delhi where the air pollution spiked beyond acceptable levels being the 11th most polluted city in the world. This severe pollution problem affects the people who are already healthy while it affects more to the people with existing diseases. However, people cannot migrate to other cities due to the pollution problem and as an alternate solution they started to use the expensive indoor air filters.
What’s the big deal? According to Matt Doeden, “Earth’s temperature has risen only by an average of about 1.4°F (0.8°C) over the past one hundred years.” Though this change seems like such a small amount, many
Air is very important to us because it is what we need to stay alive.
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
Earth is the only place in the universe that can support human life. It is very important that we realize this fact and take very good care of it. Various human activities cause the destruction of earth. Human beings can live a few days without food and water however humans can last only a few seconds without oxygen. Various human activities lead to the aggravation of the quality of air. Gases produced by human activities mainly due to exploitation of resources and industrialization cause air pollution. Green house gases mainly chlorofluorocarbons; carbon
Pollution has become a major issue over the years because it contaminates the Earth’s environment and affects human health. While some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities. The increase of various types of pollution has made cancer pollutant more prevalent among the people, raising the risk of getting cancer. After being exposed to theses pollutants, the effects may be immediate or delayed. Some of the delayed effects, due to the exposure, can go unnoticed for many years. Another major issue that pollution creates is the tremendous cost for preventing and cleaning it up. However, we can not regulate the pollutants to the extent where there are no more possible
