Data Collection and Needs Assessment
At Enid High School, three goals have been crafted by the administration. The three goals consist of raising the average ACT score of the school, improving student attendance, and increasing the graduation rate. This professional development plan will focus on the last issue of raising the graduation rate. Before plans are crafted to improve the graduation rate, certain data points must be collected. The professional development plan must be grounded in reliable and correct statistics. To collect these resources, multiple sources of data will be referenced. These data sources include the state department of education graduation database, national data on graduation rates, and school specific data from

The survey included questions regarding their feelings towards student’s attention during class and to see if they are comfortable with adjusting their teaching habits. The survey showed that many teachers understood that students are not interested in their classes content. It also showed that most of the teachers do not know how to manipulate their content to better suit the students desire.
After analyzing the surveys, responses, and school site data it seems that students tend to drop out because of irrelevant content, family obligations, and the lack of credits to graduate on schedule. This professional development plan aims to promote methods in which to fix these domains

The first step of the professional development plan is the modification of curriculum to address the issue of irrelevant content. Senior students feel that the content is not relatable to their future. Many of the classes at the school are designed to prepare the students for college. The college drop-out and failure rate in North America is unacceptably high and it’s becoming a huge problem. In fact, US News reports that “30% of college freshmen drop out after their first year of college” (Bowler 2). There are quite a few reasons students drop out of College. Whether it’s having a child or working two jobs, it’s hard for most students to balance college and life. Some of the main causes of dropping out include nontraditional situations, mental issues such as stress or anxiety, and lack of self-knowledge.
Schools are over populated here, 40-50 pupils in one classroom, learning process is not easy. Because of that it is impossible for the teachers to pay attention to every student in the classroom and to get almost the same result, because of that many pupils just attending the classroom without any interest in studying or learning.
A major strength of Ennis ISD is the low dropout rate of its students. In seventh and eighth grade, Ennis ISD had an average dropout rate of zero percent as compared to the state average of 0.4 percent. The difference in dropout rate is more readily seen in the seen in high school. The Ennis ISD high school dropout rate of 0.7 percent is much better than the state average of 2.4 percent. This data substantiates that Ennis ISD exceeds at keeping its students enrolled from elementary to high school, despite the large percentage of economically disadvantaged students and English Language Learners.
As the price of a bright future is becoming more expensive many more students are dropping out, or not going to college at all. Over 40% of full time four-year students fail to earn a Bachelor's degree within 6 years and many never complete their education. With tuition rates rising many families
Critical elements of data in this case could certainly be the percentage of students who are graduating from the high school as well as the percentage of how many students are attending post-secondary institutions. The school counseling department and the leadership team of the high school in this scenario are surely not meeting the expectations of the school’s mission statement due to the percentage numbers that need improvement. Therefore, the school counselors and leadership team should work toward continuing to drive these percentage numbers into a positive direction.
The America’s Promise Alliance released their 2014 Building a Grad Nation report highlighting that, “for the first time in U.S. history the nation’s on-time high school graduation rate rose above 80 percent.” While this is a huge accomplishment for the organization, and its partners that have been devoted to helping create conditions for educational success for all young people, there is still a remaining 20 percent of students not completing high school. In 2013, nearly 4.1 million students enrolled in 9th grade, following this statistic as a guide, an estimated 820,000 students will not complete high school with their peers. History has shown that while it may not be the root cause, dropping out of high school has been correlated with
Individual learning plans would be created for each student. The student would also have the option of selecting a support team which would include educators, mentors, counselors, tutors, and their parents. Academic data analysis would monitor student progress to determine which instructional strategies are effective and identify interventions. Students input and feedback would be encouraged and used to improve services. Orientation would be held to inform new students and their parents about the types of educational programs and services offered. Students and parents would participate in surveys, assessments, and active discussions to determine which learning styles are best for the student. Students would be prompted to identify areas of interest and a minimum of three potential careers. Parents, students, and an educator or counselor would create a curriculum based on the student’s interest, natural abilities, and potential career
In order to provide the Australia Park Victoria with the appropriate data to solve its current crisis, the most appropriate method of data collection for this research is the qualitative method. According to Gay and Airasian (p 627) qualitative method is the collection of extensive data on various variables over a long time in a natural setting with an aim of acquiring insights not possible using other methods. It involves three different kinds of information collection: direct observation, in depth and open-ended interviews and written documents. Qualitative method involves use of random sampling and structured data collection instruments that fit different experiences. The method also enables the researcher to study the specific area of
Sycamore Community School District 427 is a well rounded school district for the amount of ELs that are within the community. With the small number of ELs, it poses a challenge on the administration on how to best service the student body to give them the best educational experience possible to help them thrive inside and outside of school. The school demographics being majority white and English speaking, and the ELs of a very diverse background, poses a challenge on creating two-way dual language programs in the district which would benefit the students most. According to The Bilingual Advantage, “Even if children and adolescents are not fully proficient in their primary language, enabling students to use their
Did you know that 1.2 million high school students drop out of school every year just in the United States alone (11 Facts)? The decrease of high school graduation rates is a fairly important issue, and there are plenty of reasons to propose a change. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the current standard dropout rate of high school students is 7.4%. High school dropouts encounter way more difficulties and challenges than a high school graduate would. An average high school drop out lacks the basic education that one needs in order to be successful in life. They are more likely to face problems dealing with financial insecurity, communication skills, and of course, educational matters. With a high school diploma, one is more likely to get hired for a job, earn a higher income, and educate oneself even further. Some possible causes of high school students dropping out include stress, boredom, family problems, pregnancies, and drugs. With that said, with every issue, there is always a solution. By taking the problem at hand and looking at it from a broad perspective, we can thoroughly identify the source of the high dropout rates of U.S. high school students. There are countless factors that may be the cause of this epidemic, but a few ideas including making learning more relevant, limiting the workload given to students, and providing mandatory classes on drugs and safe sex may possibly be a solution to this
College graduation and dropout rates have long been used as a central indicator of education system productivity and effectiveness and of social and economic well-being. Today, interest in the accuracy and usefulness of these statistics is particularly acute owing to a confluence of circumstances, including changing demographics, new legislative mandates, and heightened political pressures to reduce the incidence of dropping out. Students who are unable to pass the assessments may simply leave school before graduating. Not everyone drops out because they lack the determination to finish, instead they run into another obstacle while equipped with the motivation. Those of which are trying to regulate the balance of work and school, unexpected family problems, and financial problems.
In general, there are several methods for data collection and the different data collection methods provided its own advantages and disadvantages (Sekaran 2003, p. 223). For carrying out the data collection, the appropriate methods should be applied. In the research, the data collection could be done through the interview, for example, face-to-face and telephone interview. To collect the data by using interview technique, the questionnaire is commonly employed as the instrument for gathering data, the questionnaire could be able to distribute by mail or electronic mail. In addition, the data collection could be conducted by observation of individuals with or without audio or video recording. Before choosing the methods for data collection the expertise of the researcher, the degree of accuracy required, time and resources must be taken into consideration. Thus,
As we review and synthesize data of a district for planning school improvement, the following information is needed to access and determine the needs of a school. First, a thorough analysis of performance data must be reviewed to see how school districts measure up with state and federal accountability. During this process, it is very important that schools focus the performance indicators that will guarantee growth and success. School teams must refer to the districts mission and vision to guide the planning process. The performance indicators will provide data that will be beneficial in creating improvement strategies. So, after careful evaluation of the data, the next step would be to plan effective methods and strategies that will improve student achievement. Moreover, this plan should include needs, demographics and opportunities for students to be successful. Additionally, the baseline data is important information to include in the improvement plan.
The behavior was observed from a large sample of people. This included twenty people shopping alone and twenty people shopping in a group, for a total of forty subjects, each ranging in ages from approximately 19 to 40 years old. The subjects were observed from the time they entered the store until the time they left. The reasoning behind this was to see the buying behavior differences for the whole experience and figure out which areas of the store could be improved in order to appeal to groups of people shopping. The behaviors observed included the amount of time spent inside the store, the amount of money spent, the interactions with associates, and the areas of the stores that were navigated.
