Dutchman is centered around an African American man, Clay, who is encountered by another white female train rider, Lula, whose very manipulative. Clay was riding the train minding his own business awaiting his arrival upon his destination when a woman comes sit next to him, accuses him of looking at her through the window inside the other train that was going the opposite direction, psyching him out by bestering him, and making racial stereotypes against him. Lula is not to be taking seriously due to her con-artistic ways. From Lula’s viewpoint her tone of the story would be range and anger due to the fact that she wasn’t getting her way, which wasn’t normal for her and I can infer this matter based on her actions involving Clay. Lula is the best representation of our whole society rather than just one categorized individuals. I believe that Lula didn’t realize that her epiphany was harsh, especially to a black man, as many others wouldn’t have also. After being so tolerateable and avoiding Lula’s tantalizing and provoking methods, Clay unleashed his fury. In society, men are taught to not to deny a woman’s affection and by Clay rejecting Lula he’s displaying juxtaposition. In “Dutchman”, after Lula is rejected numerously by Clay she kills him a lot like in “A Rose For Emily” when Emily kills Homer because she had a huge fear of being left alone again due to the fact that her father died and he was all she had left. This work is based off of the townspeople’s viewpoint of Emily as a whole. Though interpreting the text you realize that some of the issues that the townspeople said was true about Emily was too distinctive to determine which specific individual is telling the story and the gender of them. Also, the talk of the town was a surprisingly but also significant motive to Emily’s
The events recounted in Anne Frank’s Diary took place during World War 11. By 1933, the strongest party in Germany had gained ultimate power with Hitler under their command. Hitler was Germany’s dictator who spread his gospel of racial hatred through politics. While poverty and unemployment were at an all time high he launched a campaign of anti-Semitism. Hitler’s main target was the Jews, claiming that they were “racially inferior.” He developed an idea of a Master Aryan Race, the need to rid Germany of “inferior people”, such as Jews and Gypsies, and the need to expand Germany’s borders. In doing this, he caused many Jews to abandoned their homes and go into total isolation. The Frank family
Laila also has to endure many hardships in life, like her family’s death, Tariq leaving, and living with Rasheed. All these factors start to break her and she becomes more depressed and starts making bad decisions. First, Laila survived injuries from a nuclear rocket explosion after being saved by Mariam and Rasheed (Hosseini 193-200). This explosion killed both of her parents forcing Laila to alter her plans for the future. After Laila moves in with Rasheed and Mariam, Rasheed tells Mariam about how he wants to propose to Laila and “Later, in the dark, Mariam told the girl. For a long time, the girl said
Lupe's first love was the Colonel who was fighting in the Revolution. Everyone in the box canyon believed that the Colonel would steal their gold mine and give it to the Americans. Lupe loved this man with all her heart and couldn't believe that anyone thought he would do such a thing to hurt the people of Mexico. And Dona Guadalupe had to tell her that her first loyalty should be to her family and it didn't revolve around the man you love. The goal of both families was to one day see their children be married and have children of their own.
Jews have perished because of their beliefs since the beginning of time but never have so many Jews been persecuted worldwide as they were in World War II. Anne Frank’s diary reaches a place within all of our hearts because it reminds us how easily the innocents can suffer. Sometimes we may choose to close our eyes or look the other way when unjustifiable things happen in our society and Anne’s tale reminds us that ignorance, in part, claimed her life. Sadly, her story is but one of many of those who died in the Holocaust and as with other Jews, her fate was determined by the country she lived in, her sex and her age.
However, they both share the same feelings of physical abuse by their fathers. They believe that their father's actions are justified in which they deserve punishment. Lum even went as far as defending his by claiming "we fight all the time, it's normal" (240). Certainly, physical abuse is not normal in any form. Moreover, he had been kicked out of the house and
The first way they stay determined and work hard throughout the story is they both stay determined. Lupe stays determined in one way because she is determined to win the championship and secondly, she stays determined
The men got revenge and killed Lupito. Shouting from across the bridge, Lupito in a way asked to be killed. Lupito felt guilt and shame for his actions. Lupito knew that it was morally wrong to murder someone because it was against his religious views. Death is a sin only God himself shall practice. He said things to strike them, said things that would hurt them. He brought his death upon himself.

In the very beginning of the book Lupito, a war veteran, returns to New Mexico from WWII. He, like many other soldiers, has serious mental issues caused by the firsthand experience of the war. While it may have appeared that he was alright, the lucidity was only surface deep. He had a severe case of PTSD and had delusions. One night, he had an delusional episode and killed the town sheriff. When the townspeople learned of the murder, they set out for vengeance. Soon after, the townspeople and Antonio’s father Gabriel, had set out to kill Lupito. Antonio was nearby the riot, and sees the slaughter firsthand. Lupito is shot several times and dies right in front of Antonio, a young boy at the time.
La Loca’s existence is crucial for two major reasons. First, her resurrection in the first chapter declares the nature of the story and hints of its magical narrative. Castillo wastes no time to inform her readers that So Far From God is a work of magical realism. Second, La Loca exists to encourage Sofi to rebel against the religious institution and the political establishment. As the narrator reports, “Loca had never left home and her mother was the sole person whom she ever let get near her” (221). This is a hint that La Loca’s relationship with Sofi goes beyond a mother-daughter relationship. It is a cause-and-effect relationship, since Sofi’s rebellion is staged on three different phases—each phase begins with La Loca (the cause) and ends with Sofi (the effect).
The second reason is simply a generation difference. One might assume that due to the very different upbringings and the societies that the two were brought up in, that very conflicting morals and values may have been molded. Celia grew up in a Cuba under the rule of a dictator-like, oppressive leader. Celia saw Cuba’s true poverty stricken state and long for a new regime. Reasons for Lourdes’s rebellious attitude toward her mother and Cuba in general are much more abundant and clear. Though Lourdes was raised in a very similar society as of that of her mother’s upbringing, but the severity of the government that ruled during her childhood produced a different view of the country all together. Lourdes is a very strong, independent woman whom has man complaints of the method of rule in Cuba. “Lourdes never accepted the life designated

The first reason Lupe is determined is because she works hard. For example in the story Lupe works hard by practicing for three hours straight. This shows that Lupe works hard by practicing for long periods of time and setting aside school work to practice and do her best. This shows Lupe works hard and does her best because she really wants to win and be good at some kind of sport or activity. This supports my claim that Lupe is determined. Another example is Lupe beat her brother when they played their own game. This shows that Lupe has been working extremely hard because the story
Baraka uses the character Lula as a devise to mock Clay as being a supposed Uncle Tom.
