The definition of leadership comes from within each person. Every person has his or her own interpretation of how a leadership should be defined. This definition most likely comes from past experiences under leadership or being the leader. My personal definition is very lengthy because I feel like leadership is very important.

When you think of the terms: leader and leadership, you generally equate them with being only one person. However, my view of leadership, especially effective leadership, is a shared function between many individuals. There are numerous leadership theories. As a whole, leadership theories should be implemented to contribute to the improvement of our schools.

In another course, Organization Behavior & Communication, the author of this paper was asked to identify his leadership theory, one leadership theory the author identified with was the visionary leadership style. According to the article Leadership Styles, published in the Wall Street Journal, visionary leadership requires the leader to start the employee off. Leaders that fall under the visionary leadership styles, tend to give little direction and let the individual that is completing the task put a creative flair on the project (Wall Street Journal). Calia Robins, author of Characteristic of Visionay Leadership, states that all visionary leader have goals that they share, the goals are as follows: vision, organized learning, innovation, building relationships, and pioneering (Robins).

In today 's 21st-century world of business, good management is essential in organisations and that managers have to be leaders as well (Samson & Daft 2014). The statement that true leaders are born with important traits such as "intelligence, honesty, self-confidence…and appearance" is unfitting but rather successful development of leadership is achieved through the transformational leadership theory. This essay will describe the trait & transformational based leadership theories, on its effective purpose and compare and contrast it through reasoning backed up by academic sourcing.

Contemporary leadership theories which has been expanded in the past twenty five years and have apprehend the awareness of leadership practitioners and researchers alike. According to Levy (2006), LMX theory is define as a theory about work teams that concentrates on the relationships between leaders and subordinates preferably than on leader behaviors or traits. The LMX theory concentrates on a dyads, that is the relationship among each subordinate and leader that is reflected independently, rather than on the correlation among the group and the superior. And transformational leadership theory is define as a structure of leadership in which the communication of followers and leader elevates both to leading levels of morality and motivation that they would attain individually. In its perfect structure, it creates positive and valuable change in the people they are leading with the end objective of expanding followers into leaders. Performed in its genuine form, transformational leadership intensify the performance, motivation and morale of followers through a diversity of techniques (Levy, 2006). The focus of this paper will be based on leader-member exchange and transformational leadership theories.

Communication is an essential skill for effective leadership. It is a skill that many leaders possess but might not know how to effectively use in the workplace. They may not be skilled in dealing with a diverse group of employees in terms of age, and they might not be diverse in their own style of communication.
