Leadership Challenges
There are many challenges in leadership roles that are not visible to the public eye unless you are the one that is in that role. Leadership can be complicated at times even when they are considered successful. There are several different leadership styles that people tend to acquire when leading a team. Some are good and some are bad. I believe some of the challenges that leaders face, are issues they cause themselves. In this paper, I will discuss some of the challenges that are associated with leadership in ministry and also in business. First, let’s ask the question, what makes a good leader? According to (Kouzes & Posner, 2012), a good leader models the way, inspires a shared vision, challenges the process, enables others to act and encourages the heart. Leadership is not about who you are; it’s about what you do (Kouzes & Posner, 2012, p. 15). “For leaders to be truly successful, they have to make sure their organizations are healthy” (Mitchell, 2016, p. 10). Sometimes leaders can feel they have the weight of the world on their shoulders with all the responsibility they have. This is why it is important for leaders to have team members that will show up on time, work hard and that can be trusted. In my opinion, a leader is only as good as his/her team allows them to be.
When we talk about leadership in ministry we usually think of the pastors and associates pastor. But there are also other leadership roles besides these. There are deacons,
What comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy? According to Webster's Dictionary, a leader is "one who leads." After participating in the Leadership Program, I have learned that a leader is hard to summarize.
Self leadership through personal learning and reflection “provides a foundation for effective leadership skills” (Watson, 2004). The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) includes self leadership as one of it’s five core leadership competencies, which is defined as “The Lead Self” domain. As part of Leading Self, effective leaders must demonstrate: self awareness, managing self, developing self and demonstrating character. (CCHL, 2010).
My mother always told me, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going.’ When times get rough it is important to not waste time sitting in self-pity, instead you need to take charge and change things for the better. I believe that being a good leader does not wait around just hoping, instead they make things happen. There are many elements that I believe make a good leader, but just being genuine and passionate towards a cause is what I believe is most important.

It is perfectly acceptable for all answers to be continued on additional forms provided they are attached to the assignment when making a submission. The availability of the form electronically allows learners to expand the ‘lines/box’ as required.
In the changing business environment, leaders of all organisations may face unprecedented uncertainty, especially the technology advancement and changes among the employees. To survive and succeed, leaders should have some necessary attributes. Meanwhile, some changes for leadership skills have to be made to confront the challenges.
What makes a good leader? It takes a lot of qualities to be a good leader. A good leader would have to be responsible. They would have to be someone who people trust. A good would also have to not be afraid to do a difficult task and know how to deal with a difficult task.
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
If leadership is as critical as described above by virtue of its impact on the well being of people and the society, it therefore becomes imperative that we identify the tools that can be used in developing effective and godly leadership. Finney, writing in the late 80’s, states that ‘every survey of churches has shown the importance of leadership, yet, until recently, there has been little attempt by Christians to think carefully about the skills and attitudes which leaders require’.
Management in my mind and as the book reinforces the definition to be, to plan, to organize, to staff for the process, and to control the process to the end. These are consider the primary functions of the management role (p.8).
Leadership is a term on which no one can develop a mutual consensus as it carries a different meaning for ach individual. Some people may consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships, some people may consider the one as their leader who is quite charismatic and can show them dreams of a bright future or some people may consider that man as a leader who can make them progress by devising wise strategies for them etc. There is, somehow, something very common in all the perspectives that are the philosophy behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. Nobody wants to have a person as his leader who doesn’t have knowledge of the needs and aspirations of his
My own experience in leadership has been achieved during the last three and a half years working at Lufthansa technic Malta. The company has been operating in Malta for the last 12 years in which there has been a rapid growth in the company operations creating opportunities and developments. For the last two years I’ve had the opportunity to start working as a shop leader, developing my skills and gaining
“Leaders have been around since the beginning of man,” says the authors of ‘Introduction to Health Care Management.’ (Buchbinder, 2012) As a result, time has taught us the true definition of leadership. For years, the method by which a person has persuaded and motivated others to participate in accomplishing a goal has become monumental. The commitment that great leaders encompass are not defined with a simple definition of leadership. The mutual theme with great leadership is that success is not their ultimate objective. They are leaders, driven by an idea or a vision to achieve a goal, with confidence and determination to generate success.
Not all leaders are famous like Martin Luther King, most leaders are ordinary people; you can walk down the street and run into someone and not know that they are a very powerful leader. I personally know of a good leader that is an ordinary person; my father. Although some people believe that leaders are born and not made, I believe that anyone can become a leader if they have enough courage and are thick skinned. There are many words that people come up with when they are asked to describe what makes a good leader. The most popular characteristics used to describe a good leader would be a good listener, responsible, and decisive. When you think of what makes a good leader you should also ask what kind of education they have and what
A successful leader is most importantly a mentor. This person grooms his or her staff to take his or her place, by teaching, inspiring and helping one to reach personal goals as well as the goals of the organization. Sam Adams, one of the leaders of the Boston Tea Party, was quoted as saying: "Outstanding leaders go out of the way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it's amazing what they can accomplish (Government Leaders, 2011)."
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
