As a high school senior one always gets questions like “Where are you going to school?” and “What are you majoring in?” having the opportunity to answer those questions with “Nursing at the University of Scranton” feels as if it is one of the most honorable things to say. Getting into any nursing school is very presigous but one like Scranton’s That has so many prestigious accolades and awards. There are always pros and cons of everything you do in life and expecially in the carrer one chooses to do for the rest of their life; nursing is no exception. The pros of nursing are easy to look at: Always having a job, getting to help others, the flexibility and oppertunities in all aspects in the profession. And those pros is what is most attractive
A career in the field of nursing has a wide variety of different positions and is worth the hard work a person puts into it. Nursing is a great career choice option. It’s a career that allows you to help save people’s lives, bring cheer, and comfort to those in need.
As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.
Another thing that draws me towards the career is the flexibility. A nurse is able to obtain a job in almost any state as long as they get the correct license for the state. Also, they are able to work in many different settings. A nurse can work in an office setting where the hours are set and they work a normal eight to five job. They are also able to work in a hospital setting, the hours differ when working at a hospital and some are required to work weekends and holidays. The physical demands for both setting would be different. Hospital settings would require lots of walking from room to room as well as running in certain emergency settings. In either setting though a nurse is required to be on their feet for long periods of time. It is not a job to where you would be stuck behind a desk.
My initial interest in nursing began from my experience with my grandmother. It was in the fall of 2007 when my grandmother was sent to the hospital due to hypernatremia. My dad would pick me up every afternoon from school to visit my grandmother. I was given the responsibility to look after my grandma for nearly two weeks that includes in feeding her, assisting her, and other light duties. What fascinate me during my visits in the hospital were the nurses who assisted and took care of my grandma. They treated my grandma with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding, and love. Their commitment, professionalism, dedication, determination and skills inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. From that point, I realized that nursing is a field that enables people impact other people’s lives and make a difference. At 9 years old, being a nurse was a childhood dream and now I am at the point of turning my dream into reality. I want to study and pursue my dream registered nursing at Ryerson University that offers a nursing degree program that focuses on developing student’s critical thinking skills, ability to analyze reflectively and apply theory through community health focused practice making Ryerson one of the best nursing schools in Canada.
A day in the life as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can have its ups and its downs. As a CNA you can work in a couple different areas of the nursing field, you have options of where you want to be and you are not finite to any certain place. Most CNA’s start out working in a nursing home then exude to other places such as hospitals. As a nurse aide you have many options of being in a certain field of nursing. That is what I love about nursing; it is versatile and you can work wherever you want in the country. You can travel and see places you haven’t seen while doing what you love to do as a career.
I chose nursing as my profession because I always have had a desire to serve and educate others and nursing, which has given me an opportunity to do that. Nursing is a rewarding career that gives the greatest opportunity to save lives, comfort, and care for them. The nursing profession tends to run in my family and have inspired me to become a nurse as well. This profession is the most demanding and helpful profession in the world.
One upside to being a neonatal nurse is it is less physical demanding. NICU nurses spend a lot of time at the bedside of an infant administering care or closely observing them in an incubator and less time lifting and transporting much larger adult patients. Another upside to being a NICU nurse is that this career has a great job outlook and increases more and more every year,NICU nursing will always have a job available. There is also always opportunities for job advancements with more schooling. And do not forget the babies! Even though NICU nurses are taking care of these infants on difficult conditions it makes the infants that survive and leave happy and healthy even more special . Nurses get to feel the satisfaction every single day that they are helping to save a small little babies life, and that can be one of the greatest feelings in the world. On the downside, working in the NICU is very overwhelming and stressful knowing that a small infant's life is on your hands . Neonatal nursing is also very emotionally stressful. Everyday an infant that you thought was doing bettering and was perfectly stable could suddenly collapse. Theses nurses also have to deal with parents and family members that are also very stressed out and worried about their child and that can become very emotionally draining as
As of 2008, there were about 753,600 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2,618,700 Registered Nurses in the United States (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). In the year 2018, the LPN employment percentage is expected to rise 21% while the RN rate should be approximately 22% (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). This may not seem that high, but it is, when one considers that the expected employment rate for a Dentist is only expected to be 16% (U.S Department of Labor, 2010-11). Nursing is a highly respected and sought after career because every person that enters this profession is able to make a difference and is needed by the general population for his/her skills and contributions to the medical field. When a person is contemplating entering
Nursing has always been a natural choice for me. From the time I was a little girl I received satisfaction and enjoyment from providing care for my great-grandmother, ensuring my elderly neighbor wasn’t lonely, various forms of problem solving and all things science related. Compassion, care and critical thinking are merely
Since I was in the 10th grade, I knew I wanted to pursue my education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University for nursing. Furthermore, my first college visit on MVNYOU day confirmed my decision. I greatly treasure the close knit community and the Christian based morals. To get a head start on my journey, my sophomore year I applied and was accepted into the Career and Technology Education Center of Licking County for Clinical Care (C-TEC), a nursing based program. In the duration of my last two years of high school, instead of simply graduating with my diploma, I graduated with my STNA, CET, CPT, CPCT, and my CPhT. I have gained a knowledge of the basic fundamentals of nursing. I am an active member of many different clubs and organizations supporting
The institution that I have decided to attend is the University of Central Florida. The main reason why I chose this school was because it will help me save money and I won’t need to travel anywhere to get my degree. Another big reason as to why I chose this school is because they have many great programs that will help me be better prepared when I begin my career such as their Modeling, Stimulation, and Training Epicenter which is used to prepare nursing students with different types of scenarios that they might face while working and also helps them work hands on rather than watching someone else do the job. UCF was also a good choice because their Medical Mission trips could help me and other nursing students travel to other places in the
A career in nursing is very popular for both men and women. As with most healthcare provider work, nursing offers job satisfaction, and there are positions available throughout the country. It also offers good pay, but it is not without risks. The risks can negatively impact the nurse’s health and lifestyle and should be considered before a person chooses a career in nursing.
Ever since I was a child I've wanted a career in the medical field. To be surrounded by medicine and the endless opportunities that come with nursing would be a dream come true. I've done my research and Worcester State is the University for me. I know Worcester State University can benefit by having me as a student because I’m fully confident I will excel. I am currently a full time EMT, and in the National Guard. I can bring an atmosphere of safety, maturity, and confidence to the campus and help all who attend.
Secondly, a nurse will have great health benefits. In the nursing career, wherever a nurse/doctor decides to work they will more than likely receive health benefits. Dental is even included at most hospitals/clinics. This would mean saving money on healthcare, which everyone would like to be able to do. When a nurse decides to start a family, the spouse and children will also receive healthcare benefits. If
As I spent months researching the perfect nursing program for me to apply to, to further my education and get started on my career is when I came across Jacksonville University (JU) accelerated nursing program. At the current moment I work at the Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in downtown Orlando as a patient sitter and many staff members have recommended this nursing program to me and shared how great the program is. After much research I have decided that JU accelerated nursing program is perfect for me. I could not find anything wrong or dislike anything about this program or even the area the program is located in. I have had the opportunity to talk to a few nurses that have graduated from JU nursing program and are currently working as nurses. They’ve expressed how great the program is and it changed their lives. I love the small classes that JU has to offer, which gives the professors a little bit of time to have one on one time with the students and allow the students to have time to ask questions. Another aspect I love about JU is, as of 2015, 83.50% of their students pass the NCLEX. This shows me that although this program is challenging the professors and school
