The proposed location for the pilot retail clinic would be a vacant space in a new building that was just constructed in Washington Square in North Canton, Ohio. Washington Square is a premier community shopping center located at the corner of Market Avenue and East Maple Street directly across the street from Walsh University (DeHoff Development Company, 2017). Walsh University is a private Catholic institution with enrollment of 2,112 students (U.S. News, 2016). Walsh’s health service hours are limited and students would be within walking distance of Aultman’s proposed clinic location for their after-hours care needs. The shopping center is in a high-traffic area that includes many restaurants and businesses. Additionally, there

Many current healthcare trends are being driven by millennials and they are the perfect target market for a retail clinic. The millennial generation is concerned about wait times and is always looking for convenience, technology, and is not concerned with long-term in-depth physician relationships (Rubenfire, 2017).
Students at Walsh University will be a visit source for the clinic. Many students live on campus and are away from their home primary care physicians and medical resources. Walsh does have a health services center that is available to students that is in the campus wellness center. However, services are limited and it is only open from 9:00 am-5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday (Walsh University, 2017). A physician is only available for a small subset of the open hours. Students living on-campus may not have access to a car and if they need treatment outside of health service’s hours it may be challenging for them in the current environment. Walsh students would be able to walk across the street to Aultman’s retail clinic every day of the week and get care without the need for a car or other transportation.
The last market that will primarily be targeted is busy professionals and families. The demographics show that much of the North Canton population is employed and has higher than average income. There are many married individuals in their thirties and forties as well that
A comprehensive satellite health clinic will reduce admissions, as well as re-admissions to the current single hospital within the county. This extra resource will reduce the possibility of competitors moving into the area, specifically those from neighboring hospitals that could bring the needed services that PMH is lacking and looking to provide. Additionally, consumers feeling forced to travel out of the area for care, or those facing the potential of being transferred out of the area due to the severity of the case as a result of inadequate primary and preventative care, or lack of space will diminish through these efforts.
CVS Health happens to be one of the largest pharmacies serving people in every community. In fact, there is a CVS across the street from just about every hospital, on every major interception, and are within a 2-mile radius of one another. This is the way it has been since the company was founded “in Lowell, Massachusetts by brothers Stanley and Sidney Goldstein and partner Ralph Hoagland” in 1963, and it’s the way the company plans to keep expanding the company in a proximity to one another. They have even gone as far as expanding the size of the store to fit the community. All in an effort, to be responsive and committed enough to meet the needs of not only the customers, but the clients and the community as well (CVS Health, 1999-2016). Especially, since the company admits that over the past fifty years, they have changed to better service people in their health.
The hospital that the clinic is attached to is opening a brand new facility and has decided to expand their community support by opening a family medicine clinic that will utilize the hospital resources. The community is a wide range of working classes, low income, poor, and rural families that must travel some distance to reach health care providers. Attracting patients that need primary care and continued health care will drive referrals to the ancillary departments in the hospital. This increases revenue for the hospital.
I would be honored to enroll at the WMU homer Stryker M.D School of Medicine because of the school’s dedication to educating physicians through community outreach and commitment to lifelong learning. After volunteering for the past five years at the C.A.R.E. Clinic for the uninsured, I understand the need to serve uninsured Americans. Therefore, I want my medical school experience to incorporate opportunities to serve this population at locations such as the Family Health Center. In addition, the community health rotation would allow me to continue my commitment to the under and uninsured
Peace Memorial Hospital is a 600-bed, independent, not-for-profit, general hospital located on the southern periphery of a major western city. It is one of six general hospitals in the city and twenty in the county. After doing much research, the Board of Directors has decided that they should open an ambulatory location in the downtown area, to be known as the Downtown Health Clinic (DHC). The clinic will have 4 major objectives: “1. To expand the hospital’s referral base, 2. To increase referrals of privately insured patients, 3. To establish a liaison with the business community by addressing employers’ specific health needs, and 4. To become self-supporting three years after opening” (Kerin
With the United States population living longer and the Baby boomers retiring there is a shortage of providers and provider appointments to meet the needs of all patients. This along with
MinuteClinic now stands as the nation’s largest walk-in medical clinic. The clinics treat common ailments, performs health screenings and the give vaccinations. The demand for walk-in clinics led to their quick growth which yielded over 500 stores in 2008.
One of the most successful retails clinics in the United States today is the CVS/minute clinic. With over 900 walk-in branches in 31 states and 2 million visits annually (CVS,2010), it is by far the largest retail health clinic in America today, surpassing the Healthcare Clinic at Walgreens (CVS,2010). The main health facility, CVS Health started CVS/minute clinic in the year 2000 in the U.S. to act as a care medical center in response to the growing number of patient.
Although outpatients’ facilities may differ in dimension and in services, all should have clear general features, such as competence and cost-effectiveness, flexibility and expandability, cleanliness and public hygiene, openness, and a healing atmosphere. This facility is operational with a recently extended flat parking area with handicap assistance with a safety employee on duty. Some of the other features includes a smiling friendly face greeting and assisting patient with directions, call-ahead services with labs requests, new motorized beds in the pre-op testing quarter, and seven different registration locations to help accelerate the paperwork. Coming soon the center include two operational medical cubicles, whereas individuals can pre-register themselves or complete other actions such as paying or tracing his or her charges.
The SCCA faces many difficulties with patients attempting to reach the care necessary. Travel times for reaching main clinics, such as the South Lake Union can prove to be decimating patients seeking care. For example, patients can go to clinics through Northwest Hospital and Evergreen Hospital, but some patients are in need of care from the southern cities and it requires them to travel into Seattle. Likewise, the ability to expand clinic facilities and satellite sites is a complex and expensive undertaking, but in some cases, it must be done. The SCCA must expand throughout their region while maintaining
This is a large complex, and finding your way from one location to another can be challenging for even our frequent visitors. The team reached out to patients and visitors on campus to get feedback on their experience during the visit. Follow up calls were made to visitors that expressed any concerns with navigating our facility. Signage on the campus was also reviewed for clarity and correctness and volunteers are now stationed at all entrances to assist our patients and visitors. We have also asked that all of our associates assist with taking people to their destination. The positive reaction we get when we ask someone if they need help has made us realize what a benefit this program has been for our patients and visitors. Patient satisfaction scores have increased and complaints have gone down as a result of the change recommended by this committee.
The healthcare industry needs to address consumer’s direct needs for services; which would improve overall health outcomes success rates. For example, patients having access to schedule customized services appointments using health information technology would improve overall compliance. The patients using health information technololgy will be able to choose service of choice and coordinate availability according to their schedule. According Murphy (2011)g to Saha, Beach, and Cooper (2008), consumers are more interested in maximizing each medical office
Mergers between health insurance groups and pharmacies have already begun to take place, as in the case in the merger between Aetna and CVS. This merger, once complete, could introduce providers into the CVS pharmacies, making shopping for personal needs, receiving healthcare, and picking up prescriptions a one-stop trip (Dowling, 2017). Consumerism is the root cause of this trend, and as the population continues to age and change in terms of the racial make-up, consumerism will only grow, meaning more people wanting more services in less time and with more convenience. Providers of larger practices should not see this as a deterrent to the services they offer, but rather as an opportunity to adapt to the changes in demographic trends and innovate their practices to remain competitive with the rest of the industry. Regardless of the changes in types of practices that begin to take of the healthcare industry, the aging population will still depend on the presence of hospitals and long-term care facilities to care for them during chronic, long lasting

Providing quality health care services utilizing commonly accepted practice protocols, delivering services in a clean and well-organized space using the most up-to-date equipment that resources or donations will permit. I will summarize an article regarding chronic conditions being treated at retail clinics such as CVS, Walmart or Walgreen's. Can these providers handle complex chronic management of disease process such as DM, cancer or hypertension? Or is it the public wanting convenience to be able to be seen by a provider when it's more convenient to the patient? This new medical health service has been dubbed as “convenience medicine,” nevertheless battle lines have been drawn between primary care physician and major retail chain clinics. However, this is not a new battle between the two, just when the two seemly appear to be co-existing retail clinic decided they wanted to expand their practice to treat patients with chronic conditions.
