Evaluating sources is critical for any work. Information you use should be credible reliable. Meaning the information you use should be valid and backed up. You want to use sources to promote your views and research. Bias sources can be view as a bad source option but they can also be beneficial. To argue my point I’ve used a bias source, the only issue with that is you just have to make sure all of the information is indeed valid. Lack of evaluating source can lead to many bad things. If some of the information you’re using is not correct and false you lose all creditable. Not only did you use false information but also now all of your other information that may be valid is under question. For example according to Sabella, G. (2015) an incident
Research bias has been the cause for many research projects to have misleading or correct information. Research bias occurs when the author researches only for articles or writing material that corresponds to his own ideas. This causes the author to ignore potential writing materials that may have had an important role in his research. It also causes him to expect results that match with his mindset and not see other viewpoints. All researchers should avoid research bias by using different methods and ideas to receive a better result.
from the writings of others. In the media bias plays a role in the validity of certain things. An example,
In my opinion being bias has both good and bad characteristics. I believe the negative part of being bias is that you only think one sided and not open minded. You can 't be biased in some situations where you have to see both sides of view. A positive aspect is that you are consistent and not indecisive. If you have a passion or believe in something, then you will stay consistent with your decision.
Three ways an individual can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly and credible are authority, accuracy, and coverage. It is serious to tell the concepts you discover on a site to a specific writer, association, or corporate. A source of data is
In order to prevent the perpetuation of misinformation the reader must be able to identify bias in media. For example, “Stephon Clarkson” is essentially neutral death provides the author’s personal opinion why the cops should be charged for this. Source A offers a neutral view about his death and also bais because different sources say he was shot 20 times or 8 times or 10 times. Source B offers a slight bias by only including authoritative quotes from one side, Each analysis of this occasion has different perspective and pros and cons. Readers need to be able to differentiate if it’s bias or real.
As the economy is moving towards a knowledge based environment, the ability to find good information to back up what you are saying is becoming more and more valuable. While the internet has made this a much easier, it has also created many new pitfalls. With so many new sources popping up daily it is difficult to differentiate between good and biased sources. Instruction at the GPRC includes:
It is my opinion that every source has some degree of biasness to the information reported. I believe that bias could be considered the position taken in reporting the information. For instance, a person who writes information on a study opposing marijuana
In The Washington Post, Paul Farhi states, “This means your chance of running into ‘news’ that seems biased has increased exponentially, elevating the impression that ‘bias’ is pervasive throughout all parts of the media.” The news media needs to be more aware of the information presented to the readers, while showing more concern on truth and facts than its own bias opinion. On the other hand, many believe the perception of news remains in the hands of the reader. According to some, a reader’s obligation remains to understand and determine the credibility of any news or information. The growth of a bias media creates a harder atmosphere to research the
A correctly utilized source will help establish background or assist in furthering the position through complementary or opposing evidence. Sources are often quoted but summarization or paraphrasing can also be applied when appropriate. Incorrectly utilizing sources whether purposefully or even inadvertently leads to a loss of credibility due to plagiarism. Proper citation of sources is imperative to avoid plagiarism. Once through research has been completed organization can be achieved
After, come secondary sources, these you need look through more to make sure they are valid and see between any bias there may be. Secondary sources are textbooks, editorials, and journal articles. These can be hard to consider accurate because there is usually some amount of bias within evidence. For example, a textbook for a catholic school on religion, even though it contains scholarly documentation, it may not include and adjust specific evidence that may go against the religion. As well, a journal article from a conservative site will not necessarily shed positive light on any democratic view. These sources can be used but only if it is capable to differ between bias and facts.

I think you bring up some valid points. It is good to choose a resource that is reliable and creditable. From my experience I do think bias opinions can affect your wok but sometimes in a positive way. I’ve used a bias source to my advantage. I’ve used it as a tool to prove my point. It touches along the lines of your statement to choose your article wisely. I do also think if you’re going to use a source for information you should make sure the information is right. As your example shows fake or incorrect information can be very bad for your work. Thanks for sharing once again.
The author of my news report was produced by Michael Pearson who is not an expert on this topic. When I searched to find out more about Mr. Pearson I found out the fact that he was only a part time journalist for CNN and his main job is photography. Also most of the articles I found that Michael Pearson authored were not about what is happening in the Middle East but about what is happening in the Ferguson case and a story about a Batman related shooting. This makes me believe that Mr. Pearson does not have all the facts because he has no other articles dealing with the Middle East. This article is a popular source not a scholarly source which means the article did not go through peer review. The author of the
In this paper the question “How did Sam “The Banana Man” Zemurray change the political organization of Honduras in the 1910’s?” will be examined. The decade of 1910-1920 is used to narrow the span of time that can be considered. Honduras is examined because it was the second largest banana exporter in the world up to 1915, thereafter it was the largest (Bucheli 11).
During discussion in class, we talked about what the chapter had to say about how information is gathered and bias. I found this part of the chapters interesting, because it was related in class in a way that I understood. Suddenly, I was thinking about times when I had looked at CNN or Fox News. They always talk about similar topics, but they always have different outcomes for the research. I began to wonder what other topics this could relate to, and I started to become more aware of data with disclaimers or data with endorsements. I was able to find out more about this topic. Upon looking at some graphs, I found a vast amount of research with endorsements had skewed graphs. The graphs were minimized or maximized to look a certain way. In
