The Evolution of Guns From Muskets to automatic Assault rifles, guns have improved ever since the first use of them. The invention of firearms all began in China, where gunpowder was first created in the ninth century. Although the Chinese created gunpowder in the 9th century, the first recorded use of a firearm was in the thirteenth century in the year of 1364. The first use of firearms proof marks in the year of 1637. Firearms have been improved and are still improving. Some changes that have been made ever since the first use of a gun include the weight of the gun, better accuracy, bigger magazines, and better reliability. During war, all of these changes were important to make a better weapon. Firearms went from being able to shoot …show more content…
Although Muskets were still being used during the Mid-19th Century, it was only the beginning of the evolution of firearms. During the early 1800s, muskets were still being used, but as the mid-1800s approached, new ideas were becoming reality. The rifle-musket was a production that was authorized by Secretary of War Jefferson Davis in July of 1855. This production was the first rifled weapon produced by the U.S army. This was an important weapon improvement because it was able to be used during the early parts of the Civil …show more content…
Muskets were used back then, which aren’t even as close to good as the machine guns used today. Rifles used today such as the M16A4, M4 Carbine, M4A1, and the Scar-H are extremely deadly and are some of the most advancement weapons out there. The evolution of guns has come a long way, and they will still be improving from now on. From the 1300s to present day, firearms have made an incredible impact in this world in both good and bad ways. The evolution of guns can simply be described as astonishing. From single shot weapons to fully automatic weapons, guns have impacted militaries all over the world. The weapons improving over the years have influenced wars and fights. If we didn’t have such upgraded weapons, their might have not been as many wars. In conclusion, firearms have improved significantly and evolved over hundreds of years. Nevertheless, guns have made the world a better and worse place, but improvement can always be
IntroI am doing this report on the M1 Garand for Mr.Walker 182's History Class. The Garand is a fascinating World War II semi-automatic rifle. In the sub-sections below I will describe the developement history of the gun, the service history, and info on different versions. I wanted to add diagrams of the M1 rifle but the pictures are copyrighted and I was not able to download but the diagrams could be found at <a href="http://www.chestnutridge.com/gchart.asp">http://www.chestnutridge.com/gchart.aspDevelopment HistoryThe origins of the United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 begin around August, 1900, when Captain O.B.
In 1346, the cannon was invented and by 1350 was a common weapon used by armies in Europe (Movement of gunpowder). After seeing the effects of the cannon, it didn't take long for gunpowder to find its way into portable guns. The first single-shot guns, coming onto the scene in the 1360s and versions of it are used today ubiquitously across the
What is the importance of the gun? The gun is one of the most important tools in the defense of our nation. Guns are responsible for a lot of death and injuries, but these things were going on before the existence of the gun. Guns aren't the reason for the death and injuries, they are just a means to it. They are tools and an engineering marvel of our age. The gun has evolved from a simple weapon that caused limited destruction to the modern gun that is so fast and powerful it is capable of mass destruction. Through the evolution of the gun, it has become a political tool.
The history of firearms has changed dramatically since the late 1700’s. A rifle is no longer defined as a single shot, muzzle loading musket. Should
Guns were a well known asset in the American Colonies, first for hunting game, general self-protection from the Native Americans and eventually as weapons used in the American Revolutionary War. During this time period, the main objective that the founding fathers wanted to create was an
Weapons have been around from the Neanderthals of the post-ice age, to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Rocks became knives, sticks became spears, and bayonets became AK-47’s. The technology from the French and Indian War was revolutionized and manufactured by the newly opened weaponry companies. Colt
Guns have been the weapon of choice for some of the most brutal massacres on America soil. Since early history guns have been used mainly for militia and defense purposes. But, the development of new gun technology has made firearms more accessible and deadly. Although the second amendment gives the right to bear arms, guns should be controlled and monitored by the government because guns have contributed to a lot of killings in America and will increase crime rates.
Humans have used weapons in warfare, hunting, law enforcement, and criminal activity for thousands of years. Weapons also serve many other purposes in society including use in sports, collections for display, and historical displays and demonstrations. As technology has developed throughout history, weapons have changed with it.
But there wasn't only rifles there were also pistols. there was the 1860 the colt dragoon revolvers the Remington 1858 and the Smith and Wesson.
A smooth-bore musket is a type of gun that is smooth on the inside. The bullet is pushed through the smooth barrel and can be launched about eighty yards. A rifled musket has a groove and is spiraled in the inside. The actually bullet is closer to the trigger and can shoot four hundred yards. These two different guns bring their own importance to the war because of the new, easy way killing someone became. The rifled musket seemed more effective in the long run, but the smooth-bore musket was just as useful. 620,000 Americans died (although a majority of the death was caused by disease) during this tragic war.
Life has changed drastically since 1776. There was a need to own a gun, for providing food and protection against wild animals. firearms have changed drastically. Today there are semi-automatic weapons like machine guns and AK47. Compared to what was used in 1700s, where mostly only shotguns existed, they shot once and took two people to reload to fire again.(edel.edu) Terrible killings have occurred in the U.S. and on our campuses people have been killed and/or injured with the use of modern
The most widely used personal firearm of the American Civil War were rifled muskets. However many Revolutionary period muskets were still in use, these muskets were very inaccurate and had an effective range of about 80 yards. Most soldiers carried muzzleloading rifles, rifles while slower to reload were much more accurate than the musket. The rifling in the barrels, increased the accuracy of these weapons to nearly 400 yards. The most widely used rifle of the Union
Ever since 1364 when the first account of a firearm was recorded humans have wanted to control guns. Gun control would eventually travel with Columbus when he first came to America and set up the first colony called Jamestown. And there would be rules regarding weapons on the Mayflower compact.
The long range infantry weapon of the 1700’s was the musket. The musket is stronger than the bow and arrow. The kinetic energy and momentum of an 18mm musket ball shooting from a Brown Bess musket are 1460 joules and 9.36 kg*m/s. The kinetic energy and momentum of an arrow being shot from a bow are 16.5 joules and 1.15 kg*m/s. The musket ball clearly has a much stronger momentum and kinetic energy than the arrow, which means it has more stopping power. Firearms of the 1700’s also have much greater maximum range than bows and arrows. If a Brown Bess was fired at a forty five degree angle in a frictionless environment, the musket ball would travel 9783 meters. If a bow fired it’s arrow at forty-five degrees in a frictionless environment, it would travel only one hundred and nineteen meters. The musket has more than eighty-two times the maximum range of the bow and arrow. Some might say that bows and arrows are stronger than muskets, but that is not entirely true. Most people refer to muskets and rifles of the eighteen and nineteenth century only as smooth-bore barrel muskets. Muskets barrels later became rifled in the nineteenth century and are much more accurate than their smooth-bore relatives. Not only are muskets more lethal than bows and arrows, but cannons and artillery are more lethal than medieval catapults.
The discovery of gunpowder was discovered in 850 A.D. by accident. Gunpowder also called black powder is considered the earliest explosive invented. The Chinese alchemists of the ninth century were considered to be a major force behind the early development of gunpowder. They first used the substance to treat skin diseases and to kill insects before people realized it would be
