I Think Hawaii is a colorful place to go despite the fact that I never been I can picture the excellent water and the great individuals bring peace and quietness. exotic to me implies something that is intrigued and unordinary. Exotic Is influence in ARTS because you have access to see things around the world using the internet a
In my opinion, reading 1 (Hawaii: The Land of Many) is more informative and useful for a person who knows nothing about the sugar plantations in Hawaii in the 1800s. I would suggest using reading 1 because it talks about the entire history, as opposed to reading 2 which talks about the shutting down of the plantations today. This reading teaches the reader about the sugar plantations and the life of the laborers that worked on these sugar plantations. Reading 1 states that the sugar industry boomed in the 1800s which caused the need of plantation workers. They had recruits different countries that lived on the plantation. Laborers had to sign a contract saying they would work for a certain amount of time. Plantation supervisors whipped those
Hawaii is a beautiful island and it didn’t take long for people to realize it could be a lucrative business venture. Hawaii’s tourism began, as “bourgeois desires for contact with the rejuvenating "primitive"” became something that interested

Sights are one thing that Hawaii offers its people but the things you can taste in Hawaii are out of this world.
A goddess named Nohealani is a hawaiian goddess for heaven's and fire she was born in March 28, 1669 . If you get her mad she can burn 20 acres of land. She is nice pretty much the whole time. She was born from an erupting volcano and raised by the heavens. Her volcano erupts and makes islands then a turtle goddess Rosie, comes and picks up the islands and carries it. As Nohealani takes care of her island she also is being taken care by her big sister Leilani. Leilani is the goddess of waves. One day Nohealani went down in the valleys to a secret cave. And there it was she witnessed britney stealing secret gems. She chanted for Rosie and Leilani to come, “come to me come come quick to help meeeeee”. As the goddess use their powers to make
In my opinion, article #1, Hawaii: The Land of Many is more informative and useful for a person who knows nothing about the sugar plantations in Hawaii. In the first reading it talks more about how the sugar industry started in Hawaii, and what happened throughout the boom of the sugar industry. Also throughout the first article it describes what problems arose during the time of the sugar industry and how they overcame some of the problems, like having immigrants work on the plantations. The main difference is that the first article talks about what went on with the business in the 1800s and 1900s, workers, and changes in the economy.
At the dawn of the nineteenth century, the Europeans and Americans competed for economic dominance of the entire globe. The majority of Western European powers had ultimately claimed and colonized much of the known world, establishing guarded trade routes that traversed the Atlantic Ocean. These trade routes linked the raw resources of the colonized territories in Africa, Asia and South America with the profitable markets in Europe and Eastern North America. American Expansion in Hawaii: 1842-1898 by Sylvester K. Stevens credits Hawaii’s economy and business for the United States interest in such a diverse kingdom. Furthermore, Stevens discusses the missionaries and their role in spreading the American influence. By the 1800’s, American
Hawaii is a vast and beautiful state with many cultures. This is the 50th State in the United States of America and is located in the North Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is very different from all of the other states because it is made up of 7 Islands. This amazing state is one of the first states where people grew coffee. Hawaii is known for their beautiful environment.
Hawaii has always been a beautiful flourishing place, but since the first arrival of outsiders, the local flora and fauna have been greatly affected. Hawaii is located in one of the most secluded parts of the world, being thousands of miles from the closest land mass. For an excessive amount of time Hawaii lived in isolation. The arrival of Captain Cook in the 18th century impacted Hawaii instantly. Like any arrival of westerners to an isolated place, the westerners transmitted diseases that the indigenous had no immunization to. Like the Native Americans at the arrival of the Spanish, Hawaiians were dying quick. With the introduction of new diseases the westerners also brought ideas. Since Hawaii was now known to the world missionaries came to enforce those new ideas and a new religion. The missionaries did nothing but confuse the indigenous people even more. Missionaries sought to make the Hawaiians identical to them, or similar. They forced acculturated the population and assimilated their culture. The descendants of the first missionaries later aided in the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. They also helped introduce the idea and practice of land “owning” to the indigenous. The introduction of such process led to a 4:1 ratio of land owned by whites to land owned by indigenous.
The culture and traditions of the Native Hawaiian people are being neglected and destroyed. Hawai‘i has become home to hundreds of different ethnic groups coexisting in one place that holds it’s very own unique and distinct culture. The unfortunate side effect of this multiculturalism is the loss of the true Hawaiian culture. Western interference desecrates our sacred sites and artifacts, for things like telescopes and shopping malls. Foreigners capitalize on Hawaiian practices such as hula, making a mockery of the tradition. The state and counties of Hawaii grant large amounts of monies to non-Hawaiian concepts. Even though there are many individuals and organizations across the state of Hawai‘i that try to maintain the Hawaiian practices,
Exotic Hawaii is a flyspeck in a vast ocean, a land of adventure, exploration and derring-do that has provided inspiration for countless mystery and adventure tales. Here are a few more.
There are many different factors that affect what Hawaiians eat, and some of them aren’t as obvious as you might think. Unlike what most people think pineapples are not the most prevalent food in Hawaii (unless you go to the tourist places then it will be the most abundant thing that you will find). This is a result of the unique limitations that are present in Hawaii, that are not seen in most of the world. Since Hawaii has a lot of antithetical cultures that affects their food dramatically, you can see this in the traditional food, and the roles that the people paid in society. Unlike our traditional food, which is not really a thing because the United States was inhabited all over by different cultures during different times, this is one
During this weeks lecture we discussed language and life in Hawaii and how it has been affected by colonialism. Through the course of the lesson, there were several statements and ideas that were presented that raised questions for debate such as colonialism and the use of language to represent identity within the United States. During the lecture that took place on 1/6/17 the speaker, projected this idea that Hawaii would be in a overall better economic and social position if history had taken an alternate course. I believe one of the biggest blotches of colonialism in Hawaii is the Pearl Harbor Military Base. Under my interpretation it is a representation that the Hawaii islands no longer belong to the loving “Aloha” culture but rather as a defense system to the mainland. Additionally in the view of political figures they only care about the geopolitical acceptance in the world scope rather than the preservation of Hawaii.
Warm sand, blue waves, and the tropical sun—this is what Hawaii is all about. But the beaches and the dramatic landscape is not all Hawaii has to offer. Hawaii is rich with the culture of its past: fighting, sporting, and celebrating—was a big part of ancient Hawaiian culture.
As I thinking of what makes a country exotic many things should come to mind. We can break it down into the difference in climate, history, language, culture, and even just environment itself. Personally to me exotic is defined as a person or place that is an exocentric or taboo to a different culture. Exotic can also mean very different, strange, or unusual, to not living or growing naturally in a particular area, to be from another part of the world. “I would consider exotic to be something or someone foreign to the place they are in at the moment.” (Charles) As we break down this word we find that it can mean different things to different people. As in my first interview with Diamond Charles. We can see that everyone’s definition of exotic can change based on the eyes or value of the beholder.
