Conflict Brings People Together Winston Churchill once said “ Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.” ( Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat) Churchill was giving one of his most iconic speeches, and bringing hope to Great Britain. The people of Great Britain needed this hope to fight against the Axis Powers. In the U.S, the war actually brought them together and got them through the Great Depression. After the war was won people in the U.S and in Great Britain were so proud to be in their country. They were never more unified. Conflict, such as a war can either bring a country down or build it up and make it stronger. Even if a country (like Germany) loses a war it is still united and working together to make its country
Winston Churchill, in his speech “Blood, toil, tears and sweat” argues that they have to fight in this war and that nothing but victory can be accepted. He supports his claim by explaining what his majesty has asked him to do, then he talks about the few positions that were made, then he explains the seriousness of the administration, and finally he asks questions that he answers to support his claim. Churchill’s purpose was to give the people hope so they could have confidence in their new prime minister. He establishes a serious tone for the House of Commons.
Conflict is something that some people can't handle it.how people best respond to conflict'i am Malala'' she responded to conflict by trying to make a difference in peoples lives when things were not ate their best she really tried to make a difference in the world not with her hands but with the most important thing in the world her voice she spoke out to people who gave up in the world to try and them to rise up and also speak what they think is right and what needs to change if they want the people to remain neutral,to all that they are doing wrong to all the people. the Taliban hated how malala spoke out and tried to gain people's trust but the Taliban wanted the people to remain scared and helpless because if all the people spoke
Although more countries than Germany itself is responsible for starting the first World War, Germany in its history to become a nation performed certain actions that helped guide the world toward war. War after war was fought in order to solidify Germany as a nation both politically and morally. These wars gave the German people a sense of unity but also fueled rage, hatred, and fear by those that Germany defeated along its path to become a nation. These feelings are not easily forgotten. These feelings could be seen rising up during World War I by the nation of France, who was defeated earlier by the Germans over land disputes as part of Germany’s quest to become a nation, one of the allied powers in the war. As another result of these wars and the quest to build Germany into a nation, Bismark put together a web of complex treaties with varies nations in Europe. These same treaties where then unraveled by William so that Germany could advance as a civilization. Through the actions that the Germans took in order to become a nation did not see them making too many friends as it made them enemies. It is these actions that lead the nations of France, England, and Russia to go on edge and distrust Germany and build an arsenal to defend themselves. When a nation displays the actions that Germany displayed it leads people, and nations alike, to believe that they are aggressive and that they plan to take military action against them in order to expand. This then causes distrust and fear that lead people to take certain measures so when the time comes for war they can defend themselves. As those nations build their arsenals tensions grow even higher. As these tensions grow high, countries form allies with other countries which
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and, on December 11th, Germany declared war on the U.S. (A big mistake by Hitler - otherwise, we might have concentrated on beating Japan first). America was now in World War 2! Americans were no longer isolationists - they were mad as hell and they were not going to take it! Overseas, Churchill, despite the disaster, could not help but feel a great relief (actually he was ecstatic) that America was now in the
This paper will show how conflict and social behavior perspective play an important role in Dasani’s life (Hutchinson, 2015). The reader will have a better understanding of the perspective through examples in Dasani’s life. This paper will conclude with a reflection of the writer’s future profession in the social work field.
When World War II began, the United States was not initially apart of it. What sparked the beginning was Nazi Germany’s attack on Poland in September 1939. Even though we were not at the center of the action, our country did take steps to assist and protect weaker countries, like the United Kingdom. Roosevelt felt it was important to “be the great Arsenal Democracy…[he believed] we must apply ourselves to our task with the same resolution, the same sense of urgency, the same spirit of patriotism and sacrifice as we would show were we at war.” Because of this, the zeal and patriotism America showed was greatly increased. We took advantage of the power we had and the American Industry began to put forth collective efforts in supporting the Allies.
“They fought together as brothers-in-arms. They died together and now they sleep side by side. To them, we have solemnly obligation.” That’s a quote for our warriors who made it possible. Many people think, does war always have to solve problems? Lots of the world leaders think that’s the answer. An example for this is World War II. World War II is one of the world’s bloodiest conflict, as well as the largest war, in history. Along with World War I, World War II was one of the great watersheds of 20th-century geopolitical history. It resulted in the extension of the Soviet Union’s power to nations of eastern Europe.
"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat, and tears. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: it is to wage war, by sea, land, and air, with all our might. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory." Churchill followed through with his word by becoming one of the most influential prime ministers Britain has ever had.
Zinn explains how as Europe entered WWI, class struggles diminished and patriotism ran strong. Meanwhile, America had nothing better to do that focus on the differences pulling society apart. Human are really excellent arguers. Peace can only last so long before another conflict arises and the debating continues. With all this tense energy, members of society will pick out any issue to battle over, whether it be race, wealth, or politics. However, war, being the devastating tragedy it is, can take all this argumentative energy and direct people’s worries towards one common conflict. I now see how war can actually be beneficial to a struggling
They were able to work together with their special Anglo-American relationship, “The cooperation within the Anglo-American alliance was a decisive factor in winning the war” (Brown, 2010, 9). WWII was when the special relationship really developed and the principle of freedom really brought the two nations together, “Though the two nations were dissimilar in many domestic and foreign policy goals, they were capable of carefully orchestrating a war to preserve liberty and established a close degree of trust that took them from the verge of defeat in 1940 to victory in 1945” (Brown, 2010, 9). The US and the UK were able to shape the ‘special’ relationship that we see today, during WWII. The similar principles have brought the two nations together no matter what foreign policy they took to reach the united
On May 13th, Churchill addressed the Parliament in the House of Commons in his first speech as Prime Minister. He told them that he was focused on putting politics aside and forming a national government, which included all parties to wage war against Germany. This was a key speech, as it was the first one as the battle was beginning. As stated, it was only his first month of being Prime Minister when he delivered this speech; therefor it was very important for him to make a strong delivery that could leave an impact on the British people. Perhaps the most famous line throughout the speech was when Churchill said, “I would say to the house, as I’ve said to those who’ve joined the government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat” (American Rhetoric). This use of language and descriptive words really stood out to the people and showed his passion. He later goes on to say another very famous line from the speech, “You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory. Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival” (American Rhetoric). Those specific lines from his famous speech were key to the start of a great relationship between Churchill and the British people. The speech set the course for his historic leadership of Britain during World War II. “His words established a new British attitude toward the growing conflict—and a reputation that would keep him in the Prime Minister's office through the end of the war in Europe” (Time). He provided his country with leadership through his communication skills and ability to deliver a strong persuasive speech. Just a few weeks later, Churchill went on to deliver his second speech of the Battle of France, also in the House of
World War II caused many problems for Germany. Since the war, Germany has had to rebuild and clean up many towns. Germany did many tasks after the war to help with the war effort. Many citizens loved ones died causing many grievances within the country. The people of Germany all want to reconstruct there country because it is in ruins. In order for the country to become better and more sanitary they have a division of lands, change in government and many people cleaning up. The German people too actions to cleanup and rebuild.
After the outbreak of World War II on September 1st 1939, the American government put aside their differences of wealth and labour to focus a greater goal; the bringing together of people on both a national and international scale. Racial, gender and class divisions evaporated on the battlefield as well as on the assembly line; the war had brought together people on a level no one had expected. As Koppes states, such imagery of wartime “implicitly argues that war, however horrible, might be a tonic.” This trend however, was not solely American, the “peoples war” emphasised a united front all over the globe. Ultimately if America and its allies remained unified, they eliminate the atmosphere of total jeopardy. This
Communities have a various amount of ways to respond to conflict whether the problem is prime or trivial. Communities approach these conflicts in two ways, negative or positive. The communities’ decision on how they solve the problem can result in a couple of ways, by talking it out, walking away, or using violence. Conflicts can be very small that by talking it out you can resolve it but some conflicts are very serious that poor decision making can end in permanent damage or with severe consequences. Sometimes a minor conflict can lead to a bigger, more severe, conflict as a result of an unthoughtful action. The majority amount of communities deal with conflict in a negative way.
Group polarization is the tendency to make more extreme decisions than the members initial thoughts. This phenomenon especially shows in wars because it links the parts together and contradictory thoughts and values surfaces even more. The group polarization that occurs generally has positive effects to the society and in this case, it greatly impacted the British society. The British people had the same intentions, and with that in mind, the internal political controversies usually decline. Another incident that occurred during and after World War II that shows how wars bring people together was Winston Churchill`s desire for a united society. Churchill served as prime minister of Britain through the World War II. He was popular among the British people and he is known for his inspirational speeches. At the general election in 1945, the conservative party, led by Churchill, lost the election. The result of the election was contradictory to almost all the polls and surveys done prior to the election. More importantly, this shows how wars gather people and impact the society. Accordingly, this shows how one can act remarkably different in groups than as
