As an incoming EOF (Educational Opportunity Found) freshmen attending Rutgers University this fall, I had the mindset that if I did well academically, the transition from high school to college would go by smoothly. Unfortunately, college isn 't that simple. The transition to college is much more complex than people perceive it to be, in my case, it’s the most difficult obstacle I’ve ever encountered. Therefore, my aspiration is to conquer this transitional period as quickly and fluently as possible. When I had to changeover from middle school to high school, I was terrified. I didn 't know what awaited me and how much different things were going to be. It turned out high school was exactly the same, with the exception of the grades being ninth through Twelfth. There was nothing to be worried about. On the other hand, that wouldn 't be the case in college.

There is one simple answer to what being successful in school truly means to me. To be successful, I would have to gain as much knowledge and skills that I can to be able to utilize it in my future endeavors. I want to be able to show my brains in a non-letter form. If I was to barely pass all of my classes but have obtained all of the intellect necessary, I would feel extremely proud of the four years spent in secondary education. No employer looks at the exact letter grades you held. They look for skill, determination, and brilliance. College is nothing like high school for the reason that in high school you can memorize numbers, phrases, or the answers, quickly take the test while

College life is an exciting time for young adults coming out of high school. The students find themselves with so many new experiences to face; many of these changes, from new found freedom to the unexpected responsibilities, are frequently underestimated by the newly promoted freshman.

This semester has flew by a lot faster than I anticipated. The akron experience has taught me quite a bit that has helped me in many different areas. Being successful in college to me means to organize and manage all the parts of your life so that you are content. College is alot to keep track of and managing this and the rest of your life is the main thing that will keep you going so you are able to take breaks. Without breaks you will get burned out and I learned this pretty fast. I would say I was successful this semester even if my grades weren't exactly where I wanted them I am getting the feel for the whole experience.

     It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. A quality education ignites a thirst for learning that forms a foundation for an affluent community. Unfortunately, an embarrassing amount of high school graduates of Bogalusa, Louisiana, are not thirsting for higher education. In 2011, City Data reported that 72.9% of adults, aged 25 or older living in Bogalusa, Louisiana, has a high school degree, but only 12.0% of the same population has earned a bachelor’s degree. This is an obvious problem for the individual students who decide not to go to college but the lack of higher education affects the entire community as a whole. Without a bachelor’s degree, students are less likely to be employed, more likely to live in poverty, and are less active citizens of their community. Students with a low level of education are also more likely of welfare dependency and crime. In order to raise the 12% college educated citizens in Bogalusa, high school juniors and seniors of Bogalusa High School should be required to complete a college success course before graduation.

Although college is challenging I will be successful by seeking advice from experts and develop effective strategies. To help me find ways to be successful in college. As a new college student, oftentimes we are very unsure about what to expect. Transitioning from a high school level to the more challenging and more complex college level may be difficult for some to do for many reasons. The way our study skills required to be successful, demands of classes, and the new challenges we face change substantially as a part of the new experience we all deal with in different ways. One could say they have no problem with one subject, such as writing a paper, and another could say it is their biggest struggle. We all need to strategize a way to be successful for ourselves, realizing each person is different.

There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
