There are many reasons why poverty is very high in Central America. In Rural areas of Central America 2/3 of the people that live there are at or below the poverty line (Marrone, 2016). According to a study in 2002, 45% of people in rural areas were poor and the other half was extremely poor (IFAD, 2009). The money that the poor make, they only get 3% of their income, and the money that the wealthy of the poor make get 60% of their income (Marrone, 2016). Countries have not done very much to help poverty and one of the worst countries dealing with poverty is Honduras as 75% of their population live in poverty (Marrone, 2016).

Everyone knows what the word poverty means. It means poor, unable to buy the necessities to survive in today's world. We do not realize how easy it is for a person to fall into poverty: A lost job, a sudden illness, a death in the family or the endless cycle of being born into poverty and not knowing how to overcome it. There are so many children in poverty and a family's structure can effect the outcome. Most of the people who are at the poverty level need some type of help to overcome the obstacles. There are mane issues that deal with poverty and many things that can be done to stop it.

Families who do not have homes receive much more stress than other families. They also have disruption in school, work, friendships, and family relationships. There are other effects of poverty such as drug abuse and addiction, child and woman abuse, debts pressure, and increase in crimes.
