The Federal Bureau of Investigation is one the highest ranking and well known agencies that serve and protect the United States and have done so for over one hundred years. The FBI was founded on July 26, 1908 by J.Edgar Hoover, Charles Joseph Bonaparte, and Theodore Roosevelt and was a start to a new era for criminal investigators. Before the FBI was established, the nation relied on the agents of the secret service who are known to protect the President of the United States and the nations integrity. Under President Theodore Roosevelt, this began to change. These investigators came from a reserve force of a couple that the Secret Service kept to help other departments as well as a list maintained by Chief John Wilkie of some couple hundreds of other investigators who had applied for these Secret Service positions, were already appointed by the Treasury Department, This system had worked for many years, but in 1906, Congress began to question them. Generally from the Treasury Department, Tawney chief of staff , didn’t the Department rely on its own investigators in which Glover answered, there weren’t enough in the position for the work that needed to be done, but some of the personnel have considered the question as to whether the Department sought to have its own secret service force or not and leave it be.
