The site people have become very fond of is Facebook and Twitter, but does anyone actually know when and why it came out? I’ll tell you about it. Facebook was launched in 2004 by its founder Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg created this site so his class mates and he at Harvard University can keep in touch. Allowing them to post statuses of how there days are going and photos of what they where doing or of themselves. Then he opened his site at the end of the year to high school students. By 2005 Facebook was opened to the public. (Bill Schackner) Another social media site that people are crazy about is Twitter. In March 2006 the first prototype was built for small groups of people created by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone. By …show more content…
Facebook and Twitter are also good because people can express how they are feeling to everyone they are friends with. It can show people how their days are going, and what they are up to, and what they did last night or even last week. It allows people to keep up with music artists, book authors, and other famous people. By their statuses, artists can post their upcoming shows in the area. Authors can post when a new book is coming out and when they are doing a book signing; Artists can tell everyone where tickets can be purchased or where to pick up a copy of their book. Social networking can be good for many things such as business. Every time someone likes or tweets about the business, they pay Facebook and Twitter a certain amount of money. This is a way to attract more clients. In addition, Facebook and Twitter can be good for school work and games. Children can play learning games with their friends on these social sites to keep up with their education or just to have fun. Facebook offers a lot of games that allows interaction with people from all over the world. But not all games have free tools some have to paid for. For example if a friend play candy crush which a lot of people are addicted to they only allow 5 lives once their out of lives theres three options. The first one is they can pay 1.99$ to refill their 5 lives,
The first type of social media was created in 1997 and it was called Six Degrees. It allowed you to upload a profile for yourself and be friends with other people on the site. It wasn’t until February of 2004 when Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg. When Facebook first came out it was an instant hit. Another social media that is trending is Twitter, which was created in March of 2006. Twitter did not become as big of a hit as Facebook in the beginning because Facebook was still the highest used social media in the world at the same time Twitter came out. In the book by Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point, it helps shows how twitter and social media is more of a connector than a maven or salesperson. Without the use of social such
They can also meet new people. There are a lot of people who meet on social media. Almost everyone uses some sort of social media, therefore people can make new friends. Furthermore, social media allows for people to meet and create
It can see what products and sites you visit frequently and finds better prices, trusted sites, and basically puts more research right in front of you without you having to do it yourself. You can connect with people across the world at any time with the click of a button. There are many more benefits when it comes to social networking rather than negatives. Businesses have a much easier time advertising their products, and people are even able to receive the products that they order much easier. A person’s computer can be programmed into them and make it much easier for them to get connected to products that they want. Another benefit of social networking is how easy it is to get access to news and current events in the world. Without social media, people would have no idea what is going on around them. Tragedies are broadcasted to a much larger audiences and news is spreading faster than ever through social
Since World Wide Web appeared in the world in the year of 1991, the social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, became popular during the last decade.
Within a span of 20 years, social media has erupted and has taken over. In 1997, Six Degrees was created and that was a website to find other friends. From there Myspace was next and that was created in 2003. In 2005, Facebook and Twitter followed and those sites are widely used by millions of people today. In the short time span, the social

Technology has made many advancements in the recent years. The first computer was built in 1946 by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania. Without this invention who knows where we would be today because this brought up many other designs like websites and apps that can be accessed anywhere at any point in time. With the birth of the computer comes the birth of social media which according to Hale (2015) began 1997 with a website called Six Degrees. This site allowed their users to create a profile where they can connect with other users within site. One could also post bulletin boards. But it died down in 2001 after hitting a record high 3.5 million users
Social networks are new platforms that people use to communicate to each other. These social networking sites have had a large jump on membership over the years. In 2005 the amount of internet users that used social networks sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram was roughly 8% compared to 73% in 2013 according to the Pew Internet Project. This jump was mainly because people were using social networking to keep contact with people from their past as well as speaking with new people. Social networks continue growing because of the variety of ways they allow people to express themselves. Instagram, which was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010, allows people to post pictures of themselves for others to see, while Twitter, founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass, lets people send short messages in 140 or less characters. These differences are the main reason people flock to multiple different social networking sites.
Over the past several years social networking has basically gone viral and there are many social networking sites available to the public including Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn. Facebook has been threatened by both MySpace and LinkedIn in pas years and has been able to remain on top but now Twitter is gaining momentum and threatens to become the number one social networking site over Facebook.
Social media sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram, provide opportunities for people to connect with each other and have become exceedingly popular in recent years. However, there are increased numbers of mental health problems such as mood problems, emotional issues, and addiction in teenagers as they overuse social media. Advocates of social media may claim that social networking platforms benefit adolescents by increasing connectivity, helping people make friends, and giving young adults a sense of belonging. However, they overestimate the benefits of new technology and lack of consideration on the dangerous influence it has. In fact, social media generates addiction, causes feeling of inferiority, and promotes bullying that trigger bad moods and unhealthy emotion which endanger teenagers’ mental health.
Facebook first started as a social networking outlet for a college dormitory at Harvard in February 2004. It was first limited to Harvard students until the expansion, first to area colleges, then all colleges, and ultimately the world. Facebook presently has expanded to over 500 million
Social media dates back to late 1970's, when bulletin boards system was invented by Randy Suess and ward Christensen. The purpose of the boards was to inform their friends of meetings, share information, and make announcements. This was the early stage of a virtual community. 1993 saw the arrival of the Mosaic web browser which led to the emergence of World Wide Web or internet in 1994(Shneiderman, 2009). Path to the current day social media sites was laid down
Part of being human is the ability to socialize, communicate with one another. Social media makes it easy for us to do that. Some people truly have a difficult time actually going out to clubs or bars to meet new people. Social media websites like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and many others, have been created for people who just feel more comfortable behind a computer/phone screen. Social media helps us better understand some people. It’s a great way to express yourself through text or pictures about how you feel, how your day has been, the outfit you wore, how good your make up looks today, or even to just let us know how delicious your meal was.
Social media helps people in an overall way by hearing about breaking news or news in general from their phone. This helps them stay up to date about the things that are going on in the everyday world. Due to the fact that social networking sites spread information faster than and other social media. According to Roufa, Timothy. “Are the Police Watching You on Social Media?” The Balance, www.thebalance.com/social-networking-and-law-enforcement-974548, the law enforcement's use social networking to catch and prosecute criminals. Another proven fact is that social media helps students do better in school. I say this because if a student is absent, then one of the kids or the teacher can email the student their assignment. Social media helps improve people's relationships and helps people, make new friends.
Social Networking sites have increased the rate & quality of collaboration for students. They are able to communicate meeting times or share information quickly, which can increase productivity and help them learn how to work well in groups. Social networking sites teach students skills that they will need to survive in the business world. Being able to create and maintain connections to many industries is an integral part of developing a career or building a business.
