1. The reason I chose the field that I am in today, is because when I was in high school I had no idea what I wanted to be. I just wanted out of my normal classes and found a way to do so. At my High school we had a career center and none of the programs caught my eye until it I saw computer maintenance. I went in with the mindset that this course was going to just be another easy typing class, but on our first day our instructor clearly told us that this is going to be the hardest class you will ever take in high school and that if you were here to goof off you got two weeks to change classes. Within those two weeks we went over course safety and our syllabus. The course caught my attention I really wanted to see what it had to offer and
My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. In first through fifth grade he worked cooperatively in groups, usually respects the rights and property of others, and usually demonstrates appropriate peer social interaction. He demonstrates strength in art, all areas of reading, and in spelling and appropriate for the grade level in writing. He needs additional help in the areas of speaking and listening and in the content knowledge of social studies, science and music. He was average in mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications, and arithmetic computation. In the seventh grade, he consistently contributes to cooperative group activities and respects the rights and possessions of others, and shows age-appropriate social interaction with peers. He demonstrates strength in art, reading, spelling and writing. He was average in math and science, and needs additional
I chose to go to college instead of heading straight into the workplace after high school because I want to further my education in a field to acquire a job in. I want to be able to have a job that is in my interest and that I will love instead. Continuing my education is going to expand my horizons, and help me to increase my knowledge of the world around me. While furthering my education through college, I am also working to make my family proud of me, to show that I am preparing to live on my own and to head into the work force. During this process, I am also learning to be able to provide for my future
At the beginning of the semester, the two days of field placement seemed so far away, but the day arrived soon enough. I was placed in New Tech High School in Sioux Falls, which is a project based learning school. Coming from a traditional classroom setup, I was unsure how I felt about being placed in a classroom so foreign to me. However, after viewing the classes for a couple days I see some of the merit to the project based learning

Over the course of these 5 weeks, I have grown a lot spiritually in learning more about the goodness of God. He has provided for all of my deepest needs throughout this field experience including a support system of friends, family, and people to pray for me.
In the past nine weeks, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from my mentor teacher (MT) Mike Hryciuk. Within the first few days of arriving in Mr. Hryciuk's classroom, his sympathetic and warm pedagogical approach to teaching captivated my attention as a student teacher. Immediately, I wanted to emulate his compassionate approach, which is one of mutual respect, second chances, and in particular empathy. Theoretically, this style of teaching has been a part of my writing throughout my degree and granted I did experience aspects of this approach in during the introductory field experience (IFX); still, my time with Mr. Hryciuk has shown me firsthand how to be effective teacher while still maintaining an empathetic climate. Moreover, by virtue of the way in which Mr. Hryciuk managed me as a student, I learned about collegial rapport while concurrently discovering strategies for creating a diplomatic and caring teacher-student relationship.
“Can we get coaches please,” it was the night of the twelve and under state championship game. Right when we got to the field you could smell the fresh cut grass, as they got the field looking nice. We were getting warmed up and getting pumped about the game. Then all the sudden you could hear the umpire say, “Its game time.” As we take the field all you could feel is the ground rumble from the fans jumping up and down on the bleachers. While on the field, no ball got between us and we got the first three outs of the game really quick. The same happened to us, we hit the ball right to the other team’s players. The game went on and on like this until the last inning. Since we were the home team we had to take the field first in the last inning.
Learning experiences in Culture and Schooling have impacted my values, beliefs, and attitudes towards others. Participating in the field experience requirement for this class has made me more aware of the diversity in our culture and has given me the opportunity to observe education in an urban school setting. I was unprepared for what I witnessed. I envisioned the institution to be dilapidated and neglected. I expected the students to be undisciplined, disruptive, and uncontrollable. I was wrong. The school building was well maintained and the student body was well mannered and respectful. After becoming involved with the school and meeting some of the students, all of my negative views about urban schooling have changed. Therefore, this course has influenced my perspective and opinions. I now realize that I should not pass judgement without having knowledge of or experience with the subject matter.
The most positive and satifying experience that I’ve had at Clara Maass Medical Center is the one to one patient interactions. I am glad that I had the opportunity to work with patients on a personal level, by assisting them with their needs and requirements. It has truly been a fulfilling experience to work along side the nurses and get to understand everything that they do to care for patients in their most vulnerable time.
The purpose of the fieldwork experience was to create two portraits. One of an infant or toddler who was between 0-30 months old and another portrait of a child between the ages of 3 and 8. The fieldwork consisted of observing the infant or toddler and interviewing at least one of the child’s parents, with the observation and interview taking a combined total of approximately 5 hours for the first part. The second part of the fieldwork consisted one observing a child between the ages of 3 and 8 also for 5 hours and following the same steps used to create the first portrait. The fieldwork experience was based on 10 hours of fieldwork on the child portraits which were based on the children observations and interviews.
In the past three years, I was involved with my church on a mission trip. For this, I traveled to Italy and being a foreigner that spoke only english, I had to learn Italian in a very short time. This mission trip took roughly two years. In this time, I not only learned Italian, I also learned the culture of the areas I was in and I helped various organizations in there efforts to help the homeless and less fortunate. This was done through organizing charity events, helping collect food donations, and even public servixe through cleaning areas of the town. I also was a part of BYU's tribe of many feathers club. This club hosted a variety of events, many of which offered food. My position in these events was to help clean the instuments used
I chose Men’s Fellowship within the Church for my Field Education experience. This choice was the first goal during the first week of class. There are many areas of ministry to choose from; I selected Men’s Fellowship because it is critical to the growth and development of the overall body of Christ. One of the goals of Men’s Fellowship is to encourage men to dig deeper into their relationships with God, thereby empowering them to step into their roles as spiritual leaders. God’s order in the church and families has deteriorated. It is my prayer and mission to train up and teach men of God to take their places and to come from out of the shadow of women and to realize their identity in God.
Unfortunately, my partner and I only received 3 surveys so far, with numbers to go back as well as contact information to conduct an interview. Lately, we are finding strategies to become better communicators and ways to reach people on a level they will understand. For example, if an older person were to open the door versus a student, we changed the interaction to suit their level of comfortness.
Many things caused me to jump from one major to another before even starting college. For one, I was in high school and didn’t really have to make a decision yet on what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I just kind of did what every high school student does at some point, I explored my options of different things I thought I might enjoy. There was just one that really made me feel something. I had always enjoyed helping out people with disabilities but I never realized that that would be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have always
There are many aspects to teaching and as a teacher it is necessary to understand the most important aspects of teaching and how they should be incorporated into the classroom. A teacher’s most important job is not to teach specific material but to build relationships with the students and ensure they feel safe and cared for. Once the teacher is able to ensure this then they should focus on teaching, however teaching is more than listing off facts and sharing information with the students. As teachers it is essential we try to engage our students. There are many ways to engage students and each teacher as a specific way they get their classroom involved in learning. During my field experience I have learned the importance of being able to engage students and I have seen what a classroom looks like when students are not engaged. My field experience has helped to reflect on student engagement and how I would place the experience in my philosophy of education.
