The genre the film was originally intended to be was horror. But after filming and the editing process started we decided to change the film to a mystery film with a little bit of action in it. The action comes from the gun shot in the last scene.
When we decided which of our story ideas or film ideas that we would film, we chose my film idea. This was because the idea we ended up going with was the most practical and had the least number of props needed for the production of the film.
Deciding which shots to use was great because when we got to filming we could change it if it didn’t look as good in reality as it did in our heads. During planning, we planned to use a range of different shots, from extra-long shots to establish the scene

If we had more time and a proper budget, then editing would have been done at a lot higher quality and had more access to locations then the film would have appeared nicer and longer to watch. This would have made the film much more enjoyable and appealing to the audience.
Inputs:
The film was not completed to the best standard, mostly because of the resources we had available. Using the resources available we were able to complete our project adequately.
We had 3 different actors throughout the whole project: Cooper, Kyle and me, Aaron. We were not professional actors. Eric was the cameraman. I was the editor. And Eric and I was the directors. We also had Daulton and Zach to support us during the filming of the lab scenes.
The software used to prepare for the film and create the script and storyboards was Microsoft Word. The story boards were created using a website called Storyboard That. The story boards were created on the website then put onto a Word Document with all the camera angles, shot types, dialogue and a short description about what happens in the scene. The editing software used to edit the film was Adobe Premiere Pro. I had access to Adobe Premier Pro so I decided to use instead of Pinnacle Studios that was preinstalled on our laptop because Premier Pro is much more powerful and would better suit our needs. I also used Adobe After Effects for the News intro lower thirds and the credits. The technology used during production was a
The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing is a documentary about the art of film editing and the immensity of the job an editor is given. The reasoning of the film is to show the impact editing truly has on movies and our emotional attachment towards them. This documentary shows clips from different films to prove to it’s viewers the substantial effect editing has. Directors and editors speak out about the significance of editing, something not many viewers know nor think about.
Film- Precious Knowledge Precious Knowledge is a documentary that takes place in Tucson, Arizona and focuses on how the Unified School district wants to completely ban the Mexican American Studies Program. In the film there were many scenes with examples of rhetorical appeal. I believe that the way the film was set up since the beginning had an impactful and direct emotional appeal on the audience. For instance, in the first scenes of the film we have the opportunity to get to know the main characters in a more intimate level.
A crew includes a screenwriter, whose job it is to provide the written blueprint version of the entire film. This is basically the starting point for any movie. Next there is the producer. There are many types of producers; executive producers, co-producers, assistant producers and line
There are many different elements of film that filmmakers can utilize to make a film. Direction, storyline, cinematography, mise en scene, as well as point of view and tone can all lend a hand in making a film great. One might say that the most important aspect of a film is the script. Others might argue the actors are the most important part. However, an impressive balance of all of the different elements of film are what can elevate a film to greatness. That is why the best film viewed this semester is Night of the Living Dead.
Due to the lack of budget, many directors made films that were more personal and self-reflective. One example would
To go along with that, I don’t really think that the film needed to rely on any fancy technical aspects anyway. It relied heavily on the emotional aspects and the actors to make the movie great and I think for the most part that they accomplished it. And out of the sparse special effects that were present, every one of them was very deliberate and had a purpose to help move the story along. Every piece of it helped set the tone for what people were supposed to feel, even though there wasn’t a lot of them. The lack of fancy technical aspects help create it and make it cinematically beautiful, One weakness that this movie had, in my opinion, was that it was confusing at times just because it wasn’t a super well known story of the time.
One of the ways why cinematography made the film was the lighting. To get the feel, the lighting appeared to be fake shadows that were painted on the set. The fake shadows that were painted on the set gave the lighting appeared to be harsh and sharper to set the mood for the audience. If it weren’t for the painted shadows, the movie wouldn’t have been so successful in the horror genre. Since it was a silent movie, if it weren’t for the shadows, you wouldn’t of seen it as a horror film, but as an original film that was trying to be creative.
Then comes production where you have to decide on who is the target audience, what equipment should be used, and how is the film going to be shown (television, cinemas, online, or film festivals).( About Rehearsal & Other stuff ) When ready to shoot the film check the framing just so they don’t cut anything important. This also helps with editing so they don’t overlay and get confused. Check the lighting so there is no glare or if it’s too dark to see. Make sure to check to see if the shot is sharp, if not they need to check and fix the focus. The most important is to check the sound. Everyone would need to be silent to make the quality the best it can. When finished with the list, everything is ready to start filming.
In order for a film to be successful many different elements must be taken into consideration even before beginning to shoot. The tone of the piece, what sort of lighting will be used, the location of the shots, and a palette for the film, are all elements that need to be considered before the actual filmmaking begins. However, even with rigorous planning, questions will still arise during shooting, questions that might not even be apparent or answered until the footage reaches the editing room. However, many shortcomings in shooting can be solved through editing. In fact, with good editing pretty much any type of footage can be made into a working piece of art. But good
The people who assembled this movie did a wonderful job. There was a great amount of thought put into the production of this film. The composition of the picture is one that should be remembered by filmmakers of today. The scenes on the ship and on the island look as if they really take place there and not on a sound stage or on the back lot. The motion picture tells a tale which is believable because it is one of a
The extravagant uses of long takes in the film, makes us question whether they are truly necessary or not. The two most notable and longest takes are firstly,
As the process of filming went under way with a redrafted script and A/V script, everything seemed as if it was going to run smoothly. Although I was not part of the set building team of for that matter costume design it must be said that the overall mystique that was created between the two held extremely true to the period of the piece and elevated it as such. Most of the beginning of the day having been used to execute this I myself went over the A/V script with camera operators and gave them insight to shots and required and asked of them was there any problems in achieving these shots. I found this to be rather important as it was something neglected during the rehearsal, and in the finished piece I found that this did justice to the
In this essay I will be discussing five key points throughout Post Production history between the 1900s-1960s. Post Production is seen as a vital component in the cinematic industry as it essentially finalises the final products. Techniques that have been developed over the years are incredibly important, but they all have an origin. Although these techniques started out without overwhelming effect, they are now unbelievably crucial to how films are constructed. The five points I wish to discuss go as follows: The Great Train Robbery and Edwin Porter himself, D.W. Griffith and his overwhelming influence on editing, The Jazz Singer, the Kuleshov Effect and finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey. As well as discussing these key factors, this essay will take into consideration secondary material.
There are many unique and innovative techniques used throughout the film. Some were sequencing which are different shots that represent purpose like flashbacks to another time period. Another that was interesting was the use of the newsreel footage. Also the many different angles that were used, and how the lighting and shadows were a big part of the film.
Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. The hard work and artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film art. Most of the great movies are either produced by a multi million dollar
