Is there anyone that you look up to? Maybe an actor, comedian, or athlete? Many people may look up to Morgan Freeman, Jack Black, or Nick Bosa. In the two stories "Fish Cheeks" by, Amy Tan, and "My Mothers Garden" by, Kaitlyn Greenidge, both of the children look up to their mothers as good role models. In Fish Cheeks the narrator looks up to her mother as a good role model because her mom understands that the narrator wants to fit in with the American girls, but her mother believes that the narrator should still remember where she comes from. Also in My Mothers Garden the narrator looks up to her mother as a good role model because she is very honest. In paragraph 19, the narrator states, "My mother decided to go back to school for a masters degree. She did not want us to stay in this housing project forever." This quote shows that the mother is a good role model because she went back to school to earn more money just so that they could get out of the housing project. Secondly, in paragraph 21, the author writes, "My mother is radically honest, one of the few people I know incapable of lying." This quote shows that her mother is a good role model because, if you are very honest, it shows maturity, and a good role model should be mature. Lastly, in paragraph 22, the narrator says, "That spring, my mother got up at 5 every morning to work in the garden before she drove to her full-time job and then to class." This shows that the narrator's mother is a good role model because she is a hard worker and doesn't give up. These ideas show that the mother is a good role model because good role models are very honest and hard
