FORMAL STATEMENT OF GOALS – WANDA D. LONG 1
My siblings and I grew up in a home where there was a strong emphasis on education. Both of my parents are college graduates. The reason why I have decided to apply to the Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development Ph.D. program, at the University of Louisville’s College Education and Human Development is my desire to further my education. I have always enjoyed learning and I aspire to work in a research based leadership role that is responsible for facilitating the success of an operation within an institution of higher education. However, now I wonder where the time has

Looking back, I am actually proud that I returned to school last semester, as well as how I ended up doing in the class.
Although I found juggling work and raising a family challenging, I have been fortunate to have jobs that have allowed me to work in a self-sufficient manner. This certainly has allowed me to balance responsibilities both at home caring for my family, and ensuring that my responsibilities at work were accomplished. The majority of my work experience has been in higher education, I have had the opportunity to work at a small, private, liberal arts college; a historically black college and university (HBCU); and a four-year, public institution. When I worked at the HBCU, I had a daily two-hour commute. During my drive, I would listen to audio books on tape. The time I spent doing this resulted in me listening to over 200 audio books. My favorite books were mysteries and crime fiction. Each day, I looked forward to my commute so that I could resume listening to so many great stories. This was such a rewarding experience, and it made the long commute to work and back home much shorter. Nevertheless, once I arrived at work or home, it was back to reality.
Throughout my career, my job duties and responsibilities have been in the areas of administration, business, and finance. In addition, I have served at various levels of administration in higher education. The senior executive level management experience permitted
Education has been a visible influence in my life for as long as I can remember, mainly because my mother was a teacher. However, in no way had I envisioned becoming a teacher, and certainly not an educational leader. I was content with my career as a pharmaceutical sales representative detailing products to doctors, hospital pharmacists, in addition, the perks that came with the job, i.e. salary, bonuses, and traveling to the home office for meetings. Destiny has a way of changing your path in life; consequently, after numerous life changing events I found myself pursing degrees in elementary education and educational leadership.
I am a dedicated educator who has devoted her life to educating low-income families in New Orleans, Louisiana. By pursuing my doctorate at Argosy University, I believe that the rigorous course of study will enhance my knowledge and productivity in the workplace. Argosy University Educational Leadership program is compatible with my career goals. My career goals are to obtain higher education, teach adult learners and to start a non-profit organization. The non-profit organization will focus on low-economics families while giving needed educational services to students who attend the charter schools of Orleans parish. As I researched Argosy University curriculum and conversated with an admission counselor I am convinced the University gives a supportive learning environment for student’s lives and careers.
1. Do you feel that the Bearington plant has the right equipment and technology to do the job? Why?
I sat in my child development class in a “brick and mortar” classroom setting. What was I doing there? I was extremely interested in what the professor was speaking on and what was being discussed. However, I was beginning to doubt whether I wanted to continue in my current field of study, Speech/Language Pathology. I no longer felt I was being fulfilled. There was something lacking. I talked to a few of my friends who mentioned how much money I would make as a Speech/Language Pathologist. I heard what they were saying, but somehow it just did not matter. I had to find the missing link…….
Jean pursued a career in Business Administration and secured employment as a management consultant for an accounting firm in Cleveland after receiving a degree in business administration from Case West Reserve University. With these merits, Jean
Growing up in a household of six, there is a lot of competition, especially when you are the middle child. My mother always says,"Focus on your education. Education is the one thing that no one can take away. Take control of your life." This is what I'm doing now, I'm taking control of the opportunities I am given. I am a highley eligable candidate because of my wonder for new knowledge and my drive for more. Being an agressive and competitive athlete, I am easily excited by challenging things that I face everyday, that's why I love the challenges that come with my school curriculum. It makes you think, and I'm a thinker. I already have one college that I really want to go to, but it is in Virgina and out of state tuition is a lot. I am planning on getting a ph.d in Data analytics at Virginia Polyetich institute of technology, also known as Virginia tech. I have a teacher that has a degree in engineering and she said that they're program is an excellent one, and that is what I am initially looking for. With my degree, I would like to help not change, but re-mold the world into something our ancestors never thought to even imagine.
In Chapter 1 of Eliyahu Goldratt’s book The Goal, we are introduced to Alex Rogo a mere plant manager, whom going into work that early morning is already faced with issues. While the reading continues we are introduced to a group of frustrated characters including, Dempsey, Ray, Martinez, and an hourly worker Tony. Bill Peach the vice president of this plant has decided to come in early causing a ruckus in the plant. Peach is frustrated because customer order 41427 is late and decided to take matters into his own hands, by threatening Tony's job in which he has no power of doing so. Rogo now has to face the problem and handle it himself. As the chapter continues we see many different types of writing in the workplace mentioned and how it is utilized. Chapter 1 of The Goal shows us how purchase orders, grievance forms, and efficiencies are relevant in the workplace.
Background After years of working in different types of careers with many different populations. The population that intrigued me the most was the at risk adolescent population. Even when trying different routes to different careers to become efficacious this desire to help the school aged and adolescent population kept reminding me of the purpose for my life. Although, I have taken a different educational fields to Educational Leadership I still feel that my background qualifies me for the Doctorate Educational Leadership program. I started at Lonestar Community College (2009), where I was able to work as a part time student mentor.
I have acquired a host of titles during the course of my life: protégée, mentor, educator, scholar, author, coordinator, analyst, manager, ambassador, AmeriCorps VISTA, paramedic, combat medic, Doc, soldier and veteran. Significant experiences and life events that accompany these titles have shaped me into the self-motivated and competent leader that I am now. Thus, it is with deep conviction that I express my commitment to completing a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Learning from the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University (GWU).
When my acceptance came in I realized that I am a strong leader with the determination to help others. As a result, I worked harder than ever before to become a leader I can be proud of. The summer before my junior year I attended a state leadership camp at the one and only Colorado State University. Being a second year camper, I assumed my experiences would be much like my first year there, educational but lacking impact. I couldn’t have been more incorrect. My adult counselor at the camp, Beth Carson, changed my outlook on my life. I realized that I will never influence the world by not taking risks. So, I ran to be one of the three members on the Colorado State Student Leadership Executive Board. It’s crazy that the experiences within four days had the power to turn all my failures into successes. I learned one of the greatest lessons that life can teach you, one can’t succeed if one doesn’t try. I’ve been able to come to the realization that it doesn't matter if you make mistakes, it matters how you continue on from those
Furthering my education will enable me to become eligible for leadership positions within the school district where I am employed as well as open up opportunities to teach at the college level. (My decision to attend graduate school at this time came after considering my academic background, experiences as an educator, and my ultimate goal of acquiring a leadership position ….)
As part of my collegiate experience, I have sound expertise and practice in twelve years managing textbook adoption, coordinating and planning staff development for faculty and staff, meeting with deans and department heads to monitor dual advisement process, and working with accreditation and reaffirmation
In addition to experience in educational institutions, I have worked for Cadbury and Kraft Foods, two large, multinational, and for-profit corporations, and for Centre de santé communautaire, a small, local, and non-profit organization. The administrative roles I have performed, such as procurement analyst and planning officer, have made me a well-rounded business professional and have given me a practical understanding of the skills required to identify and solve advanced business
Moreover, when I was the accounts payable manager at Preferred Builders, Inc., I implemented a system to more efficiently track documentation to allow for invoices to be processed. I have several years of administrative experience including my recent internship with the USVI Department of Tourism where I not only focused on marketing efforts for the territory but also performed general administrative
