The film I created Forrest Gump, explores the life of a low intellect individual who overcomes adversity through sheer optimism. Through the use of cinematography techniques, the film Forrest Gump displays key aspects including destiny, friendship and love. I used cinematography and other film techniques to symbolically convey the essence of these ideas. Additionally, depicting the tone and mood throughout each theme and resonate it towards the audience.
I incorporated motifs and cinematography techniques to portray the principle of destiny. “I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floatin’ around accidental-like on a breeze. Decades later, a repetition of animosity was met on the bus to war. (Forrest Gump 00:30:26) Bubba, a fellow patriot, who was also peculiar became best friends with Forrest. From that moment on, their friendship blossomed and strived. Their friendship was built upon many similarities, enabling a strong connection and relationship with one another. The similar upbringing, values and respect for one another is something you can’t teach, it’s a human quality. A true representation of their friendship can be illustrated when Forrest refuses to leave Bubba behind after the napalm. (Forrest Gump 00:51:33). His life is at risk, but that is the last thing on his mind. The audience empathizes with Forrest and Bubba, as being left out is not a good feeling, especially if it has occurred all his life. Added to this aspect, their relationship is strong and built upon so many qualities. It’s not every day you get to meet someone so selfless, especially if they become your friend.
Love, a necessity of life is portrayed through setting within Forrest Gump with relationships between child hood romance Jenny (Robin Wright). Setting has been used to illustrate the fundamental of love .Throughout the film, unconditional love and loyalty was displayed amongst Forrest. He did not understand the struggles which were faced by many people surrounding him, however that didn’t make him any less human. “I’m not a smart man, but I do know what love is.” (Forrest Gump 01:44:39).
