Frank Delano Roosevelt was born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York. He was the only child of James Roosevelt and Sarah Ann Delano Roosevelt. The family had a lot of money. They had made all of their wealth in real estate and business. He grew up very privileged with private tutors and governesses until he was 14 years old. When he was 14, he started the Groton School for boys. He did not fit in very well since most of the other boys were athletic. But, he continued on and graduated from Groton in 1900 and continued on to Harvard University. He was very determined to make something of himself since his 5th cousin was Theodore Roosevelt who was the 26th President of the United States.

He was re-elected in 1912 and serve that term. During the 1912, Democratic convention, he supported the Democratic person, Woodrow Wilson. When Woodrow Wilson won the election, he appointed FDR to the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He served there for several years, but did not like being 2nd in charge. So, he then ran for a New York senate seat, but did not win.
FDR was always surrounded by the women at parties. He was thought by the ladies as being very handsome. He started an affair with his wife’s social secretary that went on for several years. Eleanor wanted him to end it or she would leave him. But, he said he would stop, but really did not.
He was the Vice Presidential nominee for the 1920 election with James M. Cox, but they did not win. It did give FDR national exposure. He was encouraged to run for Governor of New York in 1928 and won. By 1930, the Republicans were being blamed for the Great Depression. Thirteen million people were out of work and hundreds of banks were closed. Roosevelt saw this as a big opportunity for a Democrat to come into
