Free Media
Everyone has done it. It is part of the computer age; downloading. Its fast, it’s easy, and best of all, it’s free. Well, free in the sense that you don’t have to pay for that particular item you are acquiring over the internet. But there are always those other fees; internet cable bill is the big one because there is no way you’ll be able to download all those files you want with dialup and keep your sanity! So how does all of this fall into the category of the law; if it’s that easy and its right there for us to do, then why is it illegal? It was such a great thing when it first happened, but I guess all great things come to an end.
When you go to the store, you buy a CD, from that CD; many

Programs such as this are Morpheous, Kazaa, and Napster. Napster has started charging its users to allow it to be a legal source of downloading, but the other two examples are not, so it is also a very dangerous route for users to work with. Once you start your search, you’ll have millions of hits, most of which are the media you are looking for. Now, assuming you are using high speed internet cable to connect to the internet, most of the time this shouldn’t take you very long. But in some cases, it will; it will take hours, or even days to get that media you’ve been looking for, depending on the amount of users you are able to connect to too download from and the size of your targeted file. This is the most popular way of downloading and sharing media that is accessible for users right now.
Another way of downloading this media is the use of an internet to download instructions for another program to follow to find the file you are looking for. I’ll explain; first you go to your regular search engine and find a sight that has bit torrent readers. You download this program, legally, and install it. Once that is all set up, which it is very easy and quick to do, then you are all set. You go to a sight that has bit torrents, which are small files that directs your bit torrent reader where to go to access the file that you
I have chosen the movie Signs to do my worldview analysis on. First, I will discuss the worldviews that the main characters in the movie have. I will then answer the question of if the characters were true to their worldviews. I will also discuss the obstacles that the main characters faced that deterred the character or characters from living out their worldview. Lastly, I will describe mental, emotional, or spiritual reactions I had to the movie as well as explain if I agree or disagree with the worldview present in the movie.
According the U.S copyright office, is that if you download copyrighted material without permission, you are breaking the law. "Copyright law protects the value of creative work. When you make unauthorized copies of someone’s creative work, you are taking something of value from the owner without his or her permission." ( RIAA) Technology has made it possible and easier to download music for free, but it is legal to do so. When downloading music from sites it is okay to do so, if the site has the official permission of the owners to copyright their music; whether if the sites charges. For example the app Pandora is legal. Pandora is a radio app that streams music. While the user is listening to Pandora, they are offered the ability to buy songs or albums. There
Last Tuesday, I attempted to unplug myself from the world of media and see how it affected my everyday life. After trying to disconnect myself from everything that involves media, I realized how much I rely on it to get me through each day. I was never this aware of its presence in today’s society until disconnecting myself. Without media to rely on, I found myself having to readjust my whole normal routine just to get through the day.

There are a variety of excuses for justifying the use of such sites to acquire various media such as to test before purchasing, the manufacturer is over charging, and even I am not hurting anyone. The ethical issue is that the perception is that by using pirated software or media is not illegal but they are making the decision to break the law.
Today in the late 1990’s we can not escape advertising it bombards us from all types of media and every aspect of our lives. It is a multibillion-pound industry that stereotypes genders and tells us what we could become if we use certain products.
Increased levels of high-speed Internet access, powerful PCs with DVD readers and writers, portable video devices, and leading-edge file sharing services have made downloading of video content faster and easier than ever. Free and often illegal video downloads are currently outpacing paid video downloads by four to one.
File sharing allows users to use software that connects into a network to search for shared files from other users. You are allowed to download any of the content that is on the file sharing account. Peer to peer, P2P, is sharing that allows you to access files such as books, music, movies, and games. Bit torrent is a peer-to-peer file transfer protocol for sharing large amounts of data over the Internet. All of these resources are surprisingly not illegal and can be used by anyone.
The question then became “Just because we can get the music we want without paying for it, should we?” (Tyson, 2000, p.1). This issue of illegal downloads, which is also referred to as piracy, has been a hot topic ever since the introduction of Napster. According to Recording Industry Association of America “In the decade since peer-to-peer (p2p) file-sharing site Napster emerged in 1999, music sales in the U.S. have dropped 47 percent, from $14.6 billion to $7.7 billion” (RIAA, 2014).
Throughout my childhood, I’ve always wanted to tell a story from my perspective. I was born with introverted tendencies, and I still have a hard time articulating to people my thoughts. But creating short films has always been an effective medium to express my true self to the audience around me. Most importantly, creating short stories helps me to understand who I am. I would like to be considered for the IFDM program because I believe I was born to tell a story, and I would like the experience of others to help shape my influence.
Downloading a movie or a song from torrents it is considered piracy and it must be punished. It is a minor crime but still it has to end at some point. If someone gets used to get what he want for free then imagine if in the following years they find a way to get also money for free. What would happen then? It appears only in digital on the screen. Stealing an original movie from the local DVD store it is considered a crime, it is the same stealing it from the web, and the difference is that it only appears on your screen. If you rob a bank in the web and just numbers appear on your account is going to be the same easy thing as downloading a movie in a few
Ever since 18-year-old Shawn Fanning created Napster in his Northeastern University dorm room in 1999, downloading and sharing music online has become one of the most popular things to do on the Internet today. But why wouldn't it? Getting all your favorite songs from all your favorite artists for free, who wouldn't want to start sharing music? The answer to that question are the people who feel that stealing from the music industry is not morally right, because that is exactly what every person who shares music is doing. People who download music think it's something they can get away with but now it might be payback time to a lot of those people.
According to the Motion Pictures Association of America website, A pirate is anyone who sells, acquires, copies or distributes copyrighted materials without permission. Over the past ten years, technology has greatly advanced, and with these technological advances, digital file sharing easier than ever. One aspect of these advances is faster Internet connection, which has made it easier to download large files in the matter of minutes. Whereas in the past majority of people had dial-up Internet services which in most cases the download rate was no more than 10 kilobytes per second. Some Internet providers today offer speeds up to one gigabyte per second, which to put in perspective; a DVD size is usually around 4 gigabytes, so technically someone could download an exact replica of a DVD in a matter of minutes if not seconds.
Have you ever had an original thought? Why do we dress the way we do, watch what we watch or even live the way we do. Through our means of entertainment, it is almost a guide in how one should live their life. With the technology we have in our world we are persuaded to believe what is right and what is wrong. Although we create our own world, our thoughts were imposed upon us since the day we are born. “What if the world is some kind of show. What if we are only talents assembled by the Great Talent Scout Up Above! The Great Show of Life! Starring Everybody! Suppose entertainment is the Purpose of Life,” says Gabler. We wake up in the morning where most of us have a daily routine we go through. Why do we put on
