Now this film was created almost a decade after the horrified incidents at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These two disasters have yet fade from the Japanese’s minds and the post-war occupation of the United States imposed a rigid censorship in all media that may cause disruption. Gojira, oftentimes being passed off as just another monster film, however, it is unquestionably a contemplation on the atomic bombing disturbances and illustrate the obliterations. The fire, denotations and the absolute unanticipated mayhem is in fact, representing the American bombing. Andrew O’Hehir, a movie critic stated, “It’s a gripping war film that depicts shocking carnage and destruction, and a social melodrama rooted in the anxious and doom-haunted quality of postwar Japanese life” (O’Hehir). Gojira demonstrated the Japanese people being besieged in their homeland by history’s distinguished superweapon. Surely, this film is a monster film that to a certain extent inaugurated the complete Kaiju genre (a Japanese word for “strange creature,” but often translated to “monster” or “giant monster.”), nonetheless, it is also dark, dismal, and downright
A film genre is a motion picture category based on similarities in either the narrative elements or the emotional response to the film. While films have at least one major genre, there are a number of films that are considered crossbreeds or hybrids with three or four coinciding genre or sub-genre types that they can be identified with them and most can be filed into categories that are easily recognizable to audiences (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 1998, p. 4.1). However, ever so seldom a film comes along that breaks free of its invisible bounds of genre and it leaves the audiences confused about the actual existence of genre. One such film is a film that most are familiar with Steven Spielberg’s classic Saving Private Ryan.
In Gordimers story “Once upon a time” uses the genre of a children’s story to articulate monsters in a suburban family by using the theme of a fairytale that clashes with the theme of a childrens story so he can use “monsters” in a suburban family. Gordimer uses phrases that kind of gives him the excuse to go in and articulate the monsters into the genre of a children’s story. Gordimer knew how to put everything in place to make it be called a “children’s story” Also, she the setting of the story in a good neighborhood, just people
Movies are not the only types of entertainment that incorporates genre; stories, music, flyers, tweets on twitter, and much more also do too. When applying a genre to ones form of expression, we can look at all aspects of the piece and analyze, analyzing is crucial in today’s society

So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers, those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the dictionary, a genre is “a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like” (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts.
Everyone loves movies. People usually choose movies as their initial option to spend their leisure time. Nowadays, the high technology of cameras and exquisite techniques of filming give the audiences a best quality and high definition of vision. Therefore, watching movie become the most popular activity among the teenages. Different genres of films help us to gain different kinds of informations or knowledges those we would never learn in the reality. If I am given a choice to choose two favourite genres of the movies, I will definitely select adventure and disaster. Both of the genres have their own characteristic and styles. Adventure films are very similar to the action film genre, in that they are designed to provide an action-filled,
Genre categorization is important because it helps to organize and classify movies. People make a lot of decisions based on the genre of the film; this is one of the main ways in which audiences select what movie to see. Most genres follow the same theme, story formula, setting, and story formula. If every genre followed the same set of rules one would think that after awhile these movies would become predictable and therefore lose its spark. There is also the notion that people and society change and evolve, making certain genres irrelevant and not relatable to the overall movie lover population. So how do film makers who are known and generally stick to a certain genre, keep audiences from losing interest? They simply evolve with society by changing the rules of a certain genre and one way to do this is genre breaking. Genre breaking can be defined as a film that is classified as a certain genre but breaks the genre tradition, by keeping the traditional theme of the genre but changing the setting, presentation, and story formula. By doing this, the film still follows the essential idea of the genre’s traditional theme, but the way it goes about doing it is totally different and can usually be seen as a parody.
A genre is a label for a film, movie, or song. Genres group together similar pieces based on their characteristics. For example, the genre of classic rock is characterized by electric guitars, drums, and bass guitars. Music is easier to classify than shows, so how does one decipher what genre a show is? A valuable start is to know what characteristics fit into a genre.
The Japanese film “Gojira” was made in the early 1950’s, shortly after WW2 and the 2 atomic bombs dropped on Japan. The nuclear bombs American forces dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki left a sore spot in Japanese society. It reminded and allowed Japanese citizens to relive the horrible horrors that occurred after the blast.
Genre is a French word meaning ‘type or ‘kind’ (Genre, 2016). The film industry has been around for at least 100 years. The evolution of entertainment is growing rapidly through the use of media. And as these years go on, films have begun to fit into specific genres, and are important to appeal to the different types of audiences. Films can be described to genre in different types of ways, such as stars, director and narrative to help identify what genre the film is (Neale, 1990, pg. 49). Genre in films has become common because it helps give the audience a different expectation. One specific genre of film is a horror. Horror is a genre that tries to create, panic, dread and fear for the audience.
A genre is a category, and in film it is a way to describe the best fit of the direction a movie will display. There are many subgenres within a genre that also help to give definition. Genres are used to support a system of grouping instead of disarray by leaving others to decipher it themselves. Scarface is a crime film that also has the sub-genre of gangster. Even though it does not dramatize a social statement on a need for change, Scarface fits into the crime/gangster genre because it distinctly characterizes the severe bloodshed and assaults that are customary in the world of organized crime and demonstrates the calamity of the gangster lifestyle; however, oddly enough with the way the murders occurred it also fits into the horror film genre as well.
Genre Theory is used in the categorization of films. Genres are dependent on various factors such as story line, whom the director is, and what are the audience expectations In using genre theory we create a short cut in how we describe films. Genres are categorized into and then sub categorized depending on the story and plot. Fantasy is a genre described as, “Any film with obviously unreal, magical, or impossible situations, characters, or settings, often overlapping with various other genres, especially science fiction, but sometimes historical dramas.” (Goodykoontz, 2014) Fantasy is a genre that typically includes a crossover genre, sci-fi,
The word “genre” is defined as a category of artistic composition, whether that art be painting, music, or literature. Genres are always defined by an origin point, the first and most essential example of its kind. In the case of literature, these are known as classical books. Novels and stories that are responsible for developing or popularizing a certain style, or theme. An easy example of a classical book responsible for creating genres could be The Hobbit. A fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien to entertain his children and keep track of the bedtime stories he continuously told them. Tolkien’s wonderous stories bore a new era of creation, seeing the continuation of the story in Lord of the Rings, and becoming the basis for modern fantasy
There are many different types of film and film genres. A film can fit into more than one genre, but there are some genres that are more general than others.
