In today’s society, there has lately been a serious issue with gun control and the different aspects that deal with gun control. For example, who is allowed to own a gun, what types of regulations need to be followed, are people allowed to carry them, and so on. The main focus of this paper is whether an adult should have the right to carry a concealed handgun and in my opinion I am against the idea. Lately there has been mass amount of shootings, which have resulted in large amounts of deaths, and something needs to be done to take care of this problem. In the following paragraphs, it will illustrate the views of both those who are for and against the right of an adult to carry a concealed handgun, discredit some arguments that are for the right to carry a concealed handguns, and lastly provide a public health policy that will address whether and adult should have the right to carry a concealed handgun. To begin, a large portion of people support the right to carry a concealed handgun, but there is still a portion of people that do not support it and for good reasons too. For example, although there is requirements that need to be met in order to acquire a concealed weapons license dangerous people can still get them. This is a big problem because the more dangerous people that get a concealed weapons license the greater the chance of a crime being committed or a death occurring. In correlation to dangerous people obtaining guns, another reason to be against the right to
The American society has for long struggle with the debate and issue of private gun ownership. There are the advocates proposing lenient laws to allow more gun possession while the people against it calling for stringent laws to control the situation. For many centuries, since the enactment of the Second Amendment and even during the slavery period, gun ownership remains an issue to debate. The negative effects have been the harassment of the minority and the vulnerable as well as increased crimes. On other hand, it has helped promote the security of the people and ensure there is no violation of people’s rights to own guns as required by the Second Amendment. As such, gun control and ownership remains a controversial and hot topic of discussion
The high rates of gun violence and accidents in the United States have long aroused public concern, in view of the strong correlation between gun prevalence, many people believe that the United States must adopt stricter gun control measures to reduce the huge number of firearms across the nation. These people are known as gun control proponents, or advocates. However, many other people do not think so. In their eyes, the serious firearm problems do not result from gun prevalence, and many people would say it is not gun’s problem, people are pushing our
The issue at hand has been the focus of news, social and political debate in the recent years. Gun control refers to the attempt by government to regulate the right to keep and bear arms based on a preconceived criterion. This debate has been due to prominent cases of mass gun violence, especially against civilians and children. Gun violence affects every American citizen. About 40% of all Americans carry or own licensed guns. This gives value to the issue and its implication on society. There has been an equal uproar on both sides of the debate. The issue at hand is the addition of measures to
People who appreciate activities like shooting competitions and hunting, use firearms responsibly. This use contrasts with other uses, which often result in consequences that can be both intended and unintended. With past and present mass shootings, and acts of bloodshed perpetrated with the usage of weapons; has triggered a focus on gun control that once again has been brought into the spotlight. The purpose of the ongoing gun argument addresses the crimes that are committed with guns. This issue of gun control separated people into two groups: those who believe that carrying guns might prevent some crimes and fatalities, and those who don’t. There are individuals who believe absolutely the reverse: that more crime and deaths
The debate over stricter gun laws has been ongoing in the United States for quite some time now. Individuals who oppose stricter gun control laws argue that the second amendment to the constitution of the United States constitute part of the bill of rights that protect the right of American citizens to bear arms, and any attempt to set up laws for gun control will be a direct violation of this (Hofstadter 10). They argue that the primary purpose of the amendment was to ensure that American Citizens had the capability to protect themselves against criminal activities and defend the country against external aggression. From a personal perspective, the recent surge in instances of gun violence in the United States of America indicates that stricter gun control laws are necessary for the safety of the American citizenry. Thus, this paper is going to focus on highlighting the benefits of more stringent gun control laws and why members of the public should support it.
It is very important to notice that the matter of regulation, first of all, refers to concealed guns. Lott (2013) states that the problem of allowing concealed handguns--but not openly carried handguns--is based on the argument that “when guns are concealed, criminals are unable to tell whether the victim is armed before striking, which raises the risk to criminals of committing many types of crimes.” The author also speculates that, on the other hand, when “open-carry” handgun laws are adopted, the defensive ability of a potential victim is immediately identified by the criminals, which makes it easier for them to choose the most vulnerable target (Lott, 2013, p. 6).
Gun control has been a debatable issue for all times. This essay aims to put forward an argument against gun control. The essay asserts that prevalence of gun control should not be a part of the society. Society should be against gun control because people should be able to protect themselves, the crime rate would decrease, and people have the right to bear arms.
Gun Control has been a controversy for as long as people can remember. This Controversy has increased recently due to the mass shootings taken place all over the United States. Gun control has its pros and cons, Some believe “Gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions.”While others say that the Second Amendment “protects an individual’s right to own guns; that guns are needed for self-defense from threats ranging from local criminals to foreign invaders; and that gun ownership deters crime rather than causes more crime.” To be able to pick a side one must look at the argument from both perspectives, that 's what this paper accomplishes. You must go into detail about this issue and conduct research to form your own opinion.
There are many benefits to having a concealed carry license. The main reasons are work, self-defense, hunting, and target shooting. For instance in February, a pharmacy in West Virginia was held up at gunpoint. The pharmacist acted to save the lives of his staff and customers by firing two shots into the suspect, with his own concealed carry handgun. No one ended up being robbed that day and the suspect later died in the hospital. (Owens, 2015). In another incident, a combat vet saved his aunt and her boyfriend from an estranged husband that came into the house and began shooting. The estranged husband’s life was ended and three lives were saved. (Chilson, 2014). In another incident a man in Alabama was walking home with his dogs and was attacked by a bear. He pulled his revolver and killed the bear before he or his dogs sustained injuries. (Learn About Guns, 2009). I personally believe that an armed society is a polite society. I feel that armed citizens do more than just protect citizens from criminals or animals. Citizens owning and bearing arms also protects them from a tyrannical
Over the course of the past couple years there have been multiple cases regarding police shootings and killings of an unarmed man.Whether it be intentional or unintentional. Citizens should have the right to carry a concealed weapon to defend themselves due to whatever is trying to cause harm to them. The right to have and carry a concealed firearm is due to your own personal protection. It should be legally just to gain a permit in every state and you should not be denied a permit unless there is probable cause that you would not use the permit as it is intended for. Citizens licensed with a concealed carry permit has many potential positive outcomes. It will lower the crime rate, give us our own personal defense and also help protect people around us. With the proper training and knowledge about guns the world would be a safer place than it currently is. In this essay, I will explain to you some of the many reasons why US. citizens should have the right to carry a concealed firearm with them at all time.
Gun control laws should regulate production, distribution, ownership and use of firearms by civilians. Gun control laws are not intended to dispossess law abiding citizens of licensed firearms but to intervene on reckless use of firearms that cause harm to the public. Gun control should also make it difficult for criminals to access firearms. Armed civilians have in many instances deterred acts of crime from being instigated by scaring away criminals. Nonetheless, gun laws can only be described as immensely lax. This essay seeks to argue for the enactment of strict gun control laws by highlighting the dangers posed by guns in the hands of members of the public.
Gun control and conceal-carry legislature has long been a topic of debate that boasts complex arguments for both second amendment rights and general safety. A key component of gun control lies in the question of allowing personal firearms on college campuses. Emphasizing sexual assault, many campuses are reaching out to allow permit holders to carry concealed weapons. A study by the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault found that one out of every four women will be the victim of sexual assault at some point in her academic career. Keep in mind that there is a significant under-representation of attacks as many sexual assaults go unreported. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that the over 50% of rapes and sexual assaults
Because of many incidents involving handguns, and any other type of gun, the government has been trying to push a gun ban law. As a result of this rumor and possible law, there have been numerous outbursts of support and resistance. Some people believe that banning firearms would be a benefit to our nation’s safety and its population’s safety, while others oppose this proposal and say that guns are not the ones that need to be controlled, people should be the ones that are controlled. During this decision, people from different organizations have expressed their own views and thoughts. Gun control has both positive and negative effects on U.S. citizens.
The people that are for concealed weapons feel that it is their right to carry. That it is a right granted to them by the United States Constitution. That government should not be responsible for protecting them at every turn. That it is their own right to protect themselves and their family. They are independent and wish to be independent from the government.
