Guns are needed. The main purpose is for protection. People think that by banning guns Americans will be safer. This is not true though. Criminals get their guns through illegal ways so it would be hard to confiscate all the guns. With guns taken away most Americans would probably turn on their government. Some people want to ban guns because they are used in crimes. But the guns are not committing the crime people are. Guns have always been and always will be a form of protection. A gun is the easiest way to keep the peace. Nothing scares someone more than knowing they could die. There are few people that are not scared of guns. When guns are in the hands of the right people peace will be kept and there are no problems. If a gun is in …show more content…
The castle law allows people to protect themselves on their own property. If a person breaks into a house then the owner has the right to shoot and kill that trespasser on the spot. Only some states allow the castle law though. One negative view toward guns is that they kill people. People kill people. The person behind the gun is the killer. Using this as an argument against gun is the worst way someone can approach it. When someone is killed by a drunk driver do people think that the car is responsible for killing? No, they obviously blame the drunk driver and say nothing about the vehicle used in the incident. It should be the same way with guns. People should not turn on the guns that they use for protection because there are people that misuse guns. The problem is the way guns are viewed. Keith Olberman states, “Guns are evil and the NRA is evil.” The article says, “30,000 Americans are killed by guns each year (Stossel).” Anyone can see in the statement it says “killed by guns.” It should say the guns are used. When it is stated like that it makes it seem like guns are the problem. When most of the time it is the people. In most of the big shootings the people behind them usually have some problem or have been psychologically damaged. One example is the Aurora movie theater shooting just a year ago. James Holmes, the shooter, showed signs before the shooting that he had problems. He was described as bipolar and a shy
“A Chicago Uber driver who’s licensed to carry a gun wounded a gunman who was firing on a crowd of people”-Source A. This is claimed as self defense and what do you think will happen if that courageous cab driver left that gunman alone? The crowd will die, including the driver, and worse things will happen. When somebody is trained properly, guns are the best way of self defense and a ban takes their hobby away. Many people believe that school shootings like Sandy Hook happen because of guns. Important to realize, this is false because the shooter grew up being picked every day and caused depression and stress through his life. As Source C states, “gun owners need to grieve us”, not all of them do. In effect, not only self-defense, but also recreational activities is also a purpose for being against gun control. In Source B, it states that, “People want to own guns for recreational purposes.” Several people who own firearms utilize them for deer hunting while others. As an illustration, there is a sport called Action Shooting which people utilize firearms to see how many targets they could hit. Although this may be true, there is more to
In America, guns have done great harm to society. Guns have been culprits to many different types of shootings such as Charleston, which was a shooting in a church, Sandy Hook, which was responsible for the deaths of twenty young children and six adult staff members, and the shooting in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises which resulted in the deaths of twelve innocent people. These are just three we listed here. How many times have there been news of another shooting? It’s like, everytime we turn on the news, we see another shooting that occurred. It doesn’t take a lot for one to notice that the current gun laws haven’t been working. The evidence which we all see daily in the news
There are gun control laws to try and reduce the number of violent shootings that occur. They are trying to put limits on weapons that Americans can own. The government is trying to take our guns away mainly because of people that are criminally insane. Most of the people who commit crimes don’t even have the weapons legally. If the government takes away the rights of people who are allowed to have firearms in their possession, it will most definitely cause an outrage. Most people believe that the people should be more capable of maintain proper use of the firearms instead of having them all taken away. Taking the firearms from Americans away would cause a lot more problems than there actually are. The people will be upset with the
Gun control has become more of a hot topic in recent years. Some believe that there is no need for additional gun control. On the other hand, we have some that believe that the government can improve gun laws. Although many believe that gun control will violate their rights, the idea of stricter gun control laws can help communities.
When looking at all of the important issues of today’s society, one of the most neglected issues revolves around guns. Guns serve two different purposes: to defend and to kill. Even though I’ve been on this Earth for only 21 years, I’ve become keen and have taken an interest in the study of guns and how they pose more problems in society than any other issue. My interest all started around the time of the Columbine shooting in Colorado and how society has taken steps since that point in history. Going back to the two different purposes, both have been used to help explain the differences in the distinctions of different gun related events that continue to occur, such as mass shootings. Problem analysis, as stated, will help to explain how
Gun control in the United States has been a controversial issue for some time now. So much so that the Supreme Court even refuses to address this issue directly. Gun control really boils down to the the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Many people have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and the trenches are dug in deep on this issue. The Second Amendment can not provide the right to bear all types of arms to protect the people from governmental tyranny. If the Second Amendment was absolute, then we would allow the public to possess nuclear weapons, missiles, and other such arms, because like the 9 mm handgun that is an arm, a nuclear warhead is also a type of arm. The more our government restricts our rights to own
President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.
The Second Amendment of The United States Constitution states, “[a] well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
One characteristic of American culture trough out the years, has been its affinity for diverse weaponry, particularly guns. However, many do not realize that America’s relationship with guns is engraved into the very frames upon which the country was established. In the eightieth century, as a means for hunting and self-conservation during the American Revolutionary War and the American Indian War, it was established with the enactment of the American Constitution that “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”, also known as the Second Amendment. (Constitution)
the church shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs was stopped by a brave Person with and gun that had shot the shooter, which stopped the gunman from killing more people and made the gunman flee away where the cops later caught him. By having a gun may save you life and other. The reason we need to have them for protection is because incidents like these guns can save manys lives.
against the fear of crime. When protected by a gun, people often feel safer because if
Today in this day and age the world is filled with hate and violence and other terrible things. People use weapons and other objects to cause terror on others for many reasons such as power and wealth. Firearms are one of the weapons someone may use to harm or rule over others because of the danger the weapon can cause. Over the years with gun violence and killings some people want to get rid of the citizens right to purchase and own firearms. I agree that gun violence bad, but taking a persons right to bear arms will not solve the problem with gun violence in todays society.
Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Guns are not the problem in today’s society. Criminals will kill regardless of gun control. Before guns were created, people were killing people. Yes a gun is a deadly weapon and yes people are killed from gun related incidents everyday, but guns do not have the ability to harm any one on their own. It is true that some of the largest mass murders have been shootings. Many tragedies have occurred because of one person with a gun (Refuting). However, those murderers would not have been stopped if a good guy with a gun didn’t stop them. If the police wouldn’t have stopped many of these killers, they would have continued to kill more people. It is known that many of these mass murders have occurred in gun-free zones. The Sandy Hook shooting happened on school grounds, Virginia Tech and Columbine also on school grounds, and Colorado movie theater shooting all
True that guns help them protected themselve but there just too many people out there using guns for the wrong purpose and hurting many people who do not deserve it.
If you have ever been in a life threatening situation with no way to defend yourself, being denied access to a firearm makes the situation worse. Many law abiding citizens that feel threatened are not able to obtain a firearm for protection. Innocent people are dying while criminals are getting away with gun related crimes. There can be many regulations and laws against guns, but if a person wants a gun they will find a way to get one. The thought of criminals having guns in their possession is a scary thought, but would you want to be the one who is unarmed? Research shows there is no direct correlation between gun control and lower crime rates; therefore, denying law abiding citizens access to weapons for protection is unfair
