I am writing you today because I would love to go to the HOBY leadership conference. Hopefully in this paper I can inform you on why I want to go, what I hope to learn, and how I will use the skills that I am taught. My first point of interest is why I want to go. I would like to go because I believe that I have potential to be a great leader in the school and community. With the help of this conference I can start to fully develop my potential. As I said before the second point that I want to dress is what I would like to learn. While at this conference I would like to get more comfortable talking to people. I feel that this is one of the main hindrances for me and my career as a leader. I struggle going up to someone I’ve never met before and asking about them and investing in them. In my opinion this is a very important qualification for a leader. Another thing that I would like to improve is confidence. I think that this is tied to my inability to be a good communicator. When I’m confident I talk to …show more content…
Right now I would use it in my school and work life. At school you can be a leader in so many different areas. I am involved in a lot of these such as band where I could potentially be a section leader. I would have to communicate with and lead the people playing the same instrument as well as communicate with Schmitt. In order to be a great athlete you have to be a leader. I believe that I am a lead by example person, but I need to be more vocal. Communication with coaches and teammates is a huge aspect of that. I can also use the skills in the classroom. Again it comes back to communicating with teachers and doing everything right that you can. As I conclude my paper and read over it I notice how much communication plays a role in being a good leader. Even if I am not selected for this opportunity I hope that I can improve my communication and confidence. I want to thank you for your time and
Leadership is very important to me. I am the captain of my school's cross-country team, and was the recipient of the leadership award. My coach gave me this position based on my leadership qualities. When my team is going through a rough practice, it is my job to push them forward and help them find their motivation. I have earned my teams respect, leading by example, which is crucial to being a good leader.
Playing sports is a great way to develop leadership skills. I’ve played softball since I could walk. It has been my passion ever since I started. Being the captain of my team for 2 years has taught me how to be a great problem solver, to be confident in myself, and to be a very hard worker. Leaders should be the first person you think of to go to for advice on a problem you’re having. Being a leader I have to do the right thing all the time not only when it is convenient because everyone is watching me. No matter what the situation people turn to me to help guide the team as a whole, on and off the field. If I make an error everyone sees how I react and they use that as an example for how they should act and have good sportsmanship. I have
This work is part one of an ongoing communications portfolio which will be expanded upon weekly. Barrett (2011) describes leadership communication as “the controlled, purposeful transfer of meaning...” (p. 6). The following is a self-assessment (Barrett, 2011, pp. 407-411) which will help gauge my current leadership communication abilities. Each area will be answered with either excel (master of skill) , competent (acceptable but could improve) or need to develop (needs attention).
“Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter."
Leadership is being able to guide other students into being the best they can be. I am a leader who is always positive and cheering others on to achieve their goals. At my school, I have a position as the Vice President of Academics in National Honors Society. Since I have obtained this position, I encourage other students in this group to participate in service projects which is where one volunteers to help out the community in some aspect. These volunteering opportunities are good thing to do because it builds character and it is always fun helping others out. As a leader, I bring new ideas to the table on where we should help out in the community and anything that we could do in school that would fun and helpful. Along with participating in National Honors Society at my school, I am also involved in our Student Government Association. Although I do not have a leadership position in this club, I still engage in the activities that we do. For the past two years, I have gone to an annual meeting for leadership where multiple schools attend. At this meeting there are fun activities where you learn more about leadership and how to be a good leader. As a leader, these meetings help because it is always good to learn new
Since childhood, I had a chance to develop my leadership and organizational skills through sports and had my school team win many competitions. My school is one of the places where my leadership qualities are valued as I often become a head of many activities, such as staging plays, organizing shows and school trips with my teachers. Being a leader gives me the opportunity to work in a team and consider my peers’ ideas to make our plans creative and enjoyable for everyone. My personal traits help me to gain trust and respect of my peers as they believe me to be a positive, open-minded and reliable person. I have learned to solve problems and conflicts thanks to this great experience of leadership, and I am always ready to assist my peers when it is
To begin, I exhibit qualities of a great leader. Firstly, at my Saturday morning bowling league, I am positioned as the anchor, which means I am expected to lead my team to victory.. Secondly, I lead by being a good example to my peers, and I am a positive role model. Lastly, when my friends have problems they come to me and I lead them to a positive solution. This is being a good leader.
Being a leader has always been extremely important to me. The past few years I have held many leadership positions to deepen my skills as a leader. Some of my most notable leadership positions of high school were that I was the secretary of my class, the secretary of my school’s National Honor Society, a member of the Youth Council for the Teen Leadership Corps, and a Student Ambassador for my high school. I have recently been chosen as a Peer Leader for the College of Business Administration (CBA), meaning that I will be available to help incoming freshman with whatever they may need as they make the transition to college. I was also chosen by the dean to give a speech at one of the largest high school visits for the CBA in order to inspire students to choose to come to Bowling Green. This was a very important experience for me because I had many high school seniors come up to me after the speech and ask me questions and reached out for advice from me. It is important to me that people value my advice because I believe that giving good advice is an imperative part of being a leader.
When it comes to leadership the mores experience you have, the high chance of success the team has. National Honors Society is a brilliant program, in which it allows students to take part in programs that have a positive impact on the community. This would help me in the future because with the ability to be a leader I can see what works and what does not. Also with the lessons I learn about leadership I will be able to use it in my future career field. With the experience of being a leader, I can further my career by planning events with museums and exhibits.
Leadership is very important to our society and to myself. It gives us guidance on what to do and if the things we are doing are appropriate. Leadership is not only something everyone could use, but also needs. I believe I can demonstrate directionism while being involved in the National Junior Honor Society.
Throughout this entire course we have learned many concepts and strategies to synthesize and use leadership as a means of working in a group setting. These concepts allowed us to learn not only how to lead other
I occupy my time in clubs and activities that both captivate my interest and are most important for my peers and me. These include but are not limited to my positions in Link Crew, Student Council, and Senior Board. They range from Senior Class Representative to Vice President. Many of my teachers and mentors have identified a characteristic of mine as a great leader, and I wanted to improve on these skills. I don't dominate discussion or action, I simply guide it. I take all of my positions seriously and always bring my best attitude; my leadership methods distinguish me from other
I see myself as a potential leader, trying to get everyone on task and doing on what we need to do. So being a leader will help other students and me be successful, and that we may surpass the teacher's expectations.
workplace as well. Communication is an essential skill that we cannot avoid, and should be perfected as a goal in improving your leadership efficiency. When in a leadership role, the leader
When reflecting on my experience as both a student and a life learner, I never would have considered myself a leader. In fact, I have always been the shy kid who hides in the back of the class and panics whenever it is their turn to respond to a question. College however provided me with an opportunity to develop myself as a leader. I became more active in school activities and actively sought out leadership roles. As I’ve progressed in my professional life, I’ve become more interested in what it takes to make a strong leader. When assuming leadership roles, I’ve always considered myself an authentic leader but I know I’ve often struggled in detailing clear goals for my group or organization. Thankfully, Enrolling in the effective
