Theodore Isaac Rubin once said- “Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best” (Theodore Isaac Rubin quotes, n.d.). I had always been planning a career around social work and had volunteered in few non-profit organizations when I was in Nepal, one of which included talking to uneducated women into taking free literacy classes offered by a NGO supported school in Nepal. A group of volunteers including myself was working on this program back then. It was difficult to convince seventeen heads of families to allow their uneducated female members to join classes. Several did not have enough time and a few did not give us time to explain the program. This volunteer work had taken a day to complete and would take a lifetime to forget. The joy, the satisfaction, the ecstasy is incomparable when one realizes that she/he had contributed something in the making of a reliable future from an undependable present. With time, my interest and personal/career goals shifted more towards serving adults with disabilities as I was volunteering in an agency that provides services to individual with emotional and developmental disabilities. After graduating from college, I accepted a position of a Program Manager in the same company that allowed me to expand my knowledge in human resource management while having the opportunity to serve the underprivileged individuals. This plan was
One of my many goals in life, since I was younger, was to major in a profession where I can change the world and make it a better place. I want to help people and positively impact their lives. This is when I decided to major in occupational therapy and focus the profession towards youth. Hopefully, I will be able to
In August of 2007 I decide to further my education and attend classes at the University of Phoenix. I was in customer service as a bartender and waitress and have three children. I had my children young but knew I had the potential to improve the quality of my life and apply personal experience in my field of interest. Since personal experience was not enough, I knew I had to get the credentials to pay forward.
Growing up my role model was my mother and her work towards caring for her elderly patients and ensuring that they were able to enjoy their lives, I look to emulate her by helping others. My ultimate career goal is to give back to my community by opening up my own occupational therapy clinic for treating elderly, military veterans, and migrant laborers that suffer from work-related impairments and offer them affordable health care and rehabilitation therapy to allow for them to function within their daily lives.
Throughout my 3-year employment at Penn-Mar Human Services, I have assumed several different roles. After being hired for individual supports, I quickly transitioned into a group position as a Program Instructor, where I would be better able to utilize my unique skillset and grow professionally within the organization. After only a few months, I was promoted to a Program Instructor II, accepting greater responsibilities. In this position, I flourished
My work experience as a human services worker has developed in me a deep passion for liberty and justice. Later this month, I will graduate from SUNY Empire State with a Master's Degree in Social Policy. I enjoy doing research, and I am very adept at understanding and working with technology. I have the ability to teach and train others, both in a one-on-one and in a group
Also enjoy working in a partnership with my families. I provide children a diverse and developmentally appropriate environment that allows them to meet their individual needs. In my program I help families achieve their goals. For instance, if a parent tells me that they want to take English classes but don’t know how to enroll. I find resources for them in the community and help them to accomplish their goals by providing the information. In the past I had a parent who wanted to further her education but did not know what to do. I provided her with information regarding enrollment, fafsa, and made her an appointment for an assessment. I informed her that the library has computers she can use in order to complete her application.
After struggling with the department of education and guiding my son through the right path, I decided to become a paraprofessional for children with special needs. I absolutely love my job. Being able to help other children by accommodating their needs is a true blessing. Providing children with the tools necessary so they can accomplish given goals and expectations according to their specific needs makes me feel like a successful assistance. I have learned to be patient, understandable and resourceful for both children and families in my classroom.
I vision myself 5 to ten years from now working with seniors at an assisted living community. I want to be able to help families find the right living environment for their loved ones. There is a lot that goes into consideration when searching for the right assisted living. I was happy to come across an job offer as an executive director at Brookdale Senior Living. Some specific job tasks that appeals to me is that I get to oversee the community staff and making sure that the tasks are being done every day. I will hold the key to making the community that I will be working for a place that senior residents can call home. I have a passion for making people happy, and seeing their smiles is my goal in any job. Some strengths that
Service learning has given me the new opportunity experience helping others and including myself. I enjoy volunteer work because It’s a way of giving back to the community, but also I’ve become confident in public speaking. In addition, volunteer work is a great rewarding experience, and it 's also helped me develop social skills, by supporting others. The contribute can make a positive impact in many ways, Barack Obama said, “ the best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the work with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” There are element that could promise will succeed in life, however, I believe to learn and discover. I will continue volunteering work whenever I can, and I strongly encourage people to join volunteer work because the meaningful impact the lives of their and help thousands of the students confront in reading. It was a great pleasure for me to contribute to the organization to the development of the community through Political Science class volunteering work. The impact that was able to make our community better future.
My goal is to have a career in health care management. While researching careers, I discovered health care management. I choose health care management as my career option for two reasons. I’m looking for a career where I can do what I passionate about and impact lives. These are important factor in my career choice. Health care management met my two requirements and at that point I knew this was the career for me. I firmly believe that any career I pursue should be one that I’m passionate about. One of my passions is helping others. Health care managers help patients just as much as doctors, nurses and other clinical professionals. For me it’s very imperative that I find a career were I would have impact the lives of others. This would ensure that I’m fulfilling one of my purposes in life. I 'm ready to experience the emotional and intellectual rewards my MBA will
Throughout life one will encounter many experiences and there is a lesson within each of those experiences. Right now as an activity aide in a nursing home my passion is to make sure each and every resident gets some sort of enjoyment out of their day whether it’s from reading the newspaper, having coffee outside or its getting their nails painted. I just want to make sure their day has some activity that they enjoy. My dream job after graduation is to work in a hospital in the palliative care/hospice as a social worker. In this setting I will still get to make
What is the first thing that comes up into your mind when you read this quote? The majority of rich people in the world always think of this quote in their minds. Money is not the first reason to make every single person happy in this world. Money might buy all the materialistic wants in this world but not happiness. “The Barbie-Q” by Sandra Cisneros clearly emphasizes that it’s not always money that brings happiness into our lives. The story is about a girl who comes from a poor family, and she always plays with her cheap Barbie doll with her friend. The financial condition of her family does not really bother her as long as she has her Barbie with her. The story is mainly about a little girl’s perspective about her life and the pleasant
Working with nonprofit agencies and AmeriCorp V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteer in Service to America), I had the opportunity to learn firsthand at the efforts given within agencies to service the environment and the public by making changes, and implementing reforms on different issues. I found I have a passion for people, legal policies, compliances, and I am very good as a spokes person, or advocate speaking on change. During the time when I was facilitating as a General Education Development instructor for
It should go without saying that one will go through life having many experiences, and more specifically pleasures, we strive to experience these pleasures owing to the fact that we think that these pleasures will make us happy. The majority of, if not all of our existence is dedicated to the pursuit of things that ultimately we think will ensure our happiness. Whether we want to go to college to earn a degree or spend all of your time exploring the world, we do what we do because in the long or short term, we assume that our actions will accomplish our goal of happiness. The pleasures that might normally be considered as the pleasures that are quintessential to exist, or things that are more typical for us to strive for, would likely
I have always known that I wanted to work with people. The ability to communicate and reach people on different levels is a skill that I don’t believe can be taught – one simply has it or they do not. There certainly are educational models that can help develop these skills, along with diverse life experiences that can integrate and incorporate learned traits; however, if one does not possess comfortability with people, and is not equipped with particular skill sets that are natural, a career working with people may not be the best choice. Any career that I had been interested in involved helping. My real career decision was to be a high school English Teacher, although it certainly wasn’t a decision with staying power.
