Health Behavior Plan to change
Exercise habits
Reasons for your Behavior change
Ever since volleyball season of my senior year in high school ended, I have not made time to incorporate the desired levels of exercise into my daily routine. Instead, I would occupy myself with static activity such as browsing on the internet for an excessive amount of time. I noticed that I do not have the same energy and excitement for activity as I used to. The lack of exercise contributed to my laziness and my inability to carry out desired tasks immediately. As a result of my lack of exercise, my mood is not as good as it used to be and my body feels more sluggish. In order to get more energy, happiness, and physical fitness, I would like change my exercise
In this report it will investigate at least three recent health education campaigns and use them to explain two models of behaviour change. The three recent health education campaigns will be ‘Smoke Free’, ‘Change4Life’ and ‘FRANK’. The two models of behaviour change will be the theory of reasoned action and the stages of change model.
In everyday life many people develop habits, but it is never too late to attempt to change that bad habit to live a healthier life. For this behavioral change project, I was asked to choose a health behavior that I would like to change for the better. So, I decided that I wanted to increase the amount of water I was consuming each day. The standard recommendation on how much water an individual should consume is about 64 ounces daily. However how much a person should drink is more individualized then one might assume. Therefore, for this particular project my goal was to at least consume 64 ounces of water daily as a baseline starting point. I also had to consider days when I worked out. So, I decided that I would attempt to increase that amount
Explain two models of behaviour change that have been used in recent national health education campaigns.
This week of my behavior change project went more successful than the past week. I noticed that this week I worked on my time management and balanced my time between school, community service, and myself. It was much easier to be motivated and do exercise because of the time change. Before daylight savings by the time I completed my shifts it was already dark outside and windy. However now that I have more time at 7:00 pm it is still sunny and warm so the weather definitely motivated me to do at least a 30-minute exercise. By the time I complete my shifts it was already dark outside and windy. However now that I have more time the afternoons are slightly longer and it is still sunny and warm so the weather definitely motivates me to do at
Bill is a man that has dementia and lives with his niece Jane. He oftens asked the same questions regularly this annoys Jane because she thinks he is doing this on badness, so she shouts into his face this scares and she also pushes him onto his bed, this causes bruising to Bill. This abuse is both physical and psychological abuse. Physical abuse is abuse that hurts the person the body and psychological abuse is harming the person’s mental state. With some forms of abuse in the UK physical and psychological abuse are both at 0.4%. 37% of abusers are family members, the category that Jane is fitted in. While in the Republic of Ireland 1.2% psychological and 0.5% physical of people 65+ were abused.
This behavior change project has become a huge part of my everyday life. I lost sight of how important staying in shape affects my overall mental state along with my physical well-being. Having a life that consists of so many activities such as going to school, working, and maintaining a full and happy relationship with the people I care about is hard to balance with just making time for myself. That is why keeping this three day a week workout regime over the past five weeks has been so important; it made me realize that I can make time to focus on just working on myself, and in turn, improve all other aspects of my life. Realizing of course that there are many people in this world that have real life health problems that they seek professional help for. These changes in their lives require a system or a theory that must be applied to develop a strategic an organized way to regulate or change their behavior.
I chose to do my behavior change project on improving my diet. I put my own little twist on it with the way I measured my success and I had to supplement it to reach my goals, but I feel that it was done really well. My goal was at the end of the four weeks to be able to run 3.1 miles in 18:45. I have run times close to this before, but that was a couple of years ago. At the beginning of this project my time for 3.1 miles was 20:36. I knew that if I was committed and worked really hard that I would be able to do it though. I chose to measure my behavior change this way due to the fact that I have a very busy life and I am on the high school cross country team. I figured I would already be running each week and I have a race every week that I can measure my time against my goal. So I was just trying to save some time in my schedule by partially combining two activities.
My health goal was to change my eating habits. I chose this goal because I have a bad habit of not eating as well as I should. Although I usually do not eat fast food, I eat a lot of carbs. I was raised in an Italian family so macaroni and pizza are my two worst enemies. I figured that if I used this project to get rid of my bad eating habits, I would have an easier time eating healthy after this class ends. Before starting the project I realized that there will be challenges, but this project was not meant to be simple. If behavior change was simple, then anyone would be able to change behavior whenever they wanted to.
The change models are change agents that could explain the ways of implementing a change process. These models explain the reason for the change, what to expect during the process and the way a change occurs. Thus, these models help one understand the various aspects of the change process (Agriculture & Life Sciences: Texas A & M University, n.d.). The transtheoretical model of health behavior change could explain my evidence-based practice (EBP) project implementation plan.
Thanks for the response. You make a lot of great points about change being hard for people. The transtheoretical model of health behavior change is a great example of how people move through behavior change. People move through five stages of when dealing with change. These include precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, adn maintance (Melnyk & Fineover-Overhalt, 2014). Individuals can move through the stages in order and they can also move backwards. I was at a conference a couple of years ago where they were talking about how people move through change and how to help people be successful in dealing with change. Change is very difficult to deal with. I found it interesting that people always say that it takes 21 days
My overall experience with the behavior change project was positive, as I was able to successfully change my sleeping habits. Although there were times when sticking to my behavior change plan was extremely difficult, I was able to stay on track and change my sleeping habits. As a result of my behavior change, I now feel healthier and less fatigued. Because of these physical improvements, important areas of my life, such as school and sports, have improved also. My performance in the classroom and on the basketball court has noticeably become better after making this behavior change.
In order for health education to be successful, it is imperative to fully understand how behavior can change in an instant. Health education depends on using the proper theories and models. This paper will address the theories and models used in health education, the importance of the theories, as well as real world examples and information from models used in health education.
I believe the best health promotion theory used for mental health is the theory of planned behavior. The planned behavior theory is essential in the process of the change of individual behavior and their mental state. The theory makes the assumption that the actions portrayed by individuals are as a result of their intentions. In return, these intentions affect the people's beliefs. According to the planned behavior theory, the behavior portrayed by human beings is dependent on the following considerations: their perceived consequences of the particular behavior they portray, the overall expectations of other involved people, and their held beliefs regarding the presence for other factors with the ability to prevent the overall performance
On individual level changes in health promotion and ecological approaches target and influence multiple health behaviors. This is because the individuals living in the environment are embedded in temporary change of behaviors. Therefore it is very important to consider ecological approaches, changing health behaviors and environmental factors while designing operational and supportable health promotion plans.
