High School and Four-year College

There is a big difference between high school and college from having bells to a no dress policy. For high school students, they are obligated to go, and if they don’t attend then the government comes into play. As for college, it 's a choice to go back to school. Students in college have variety of classes to choose from and freedom,etc. This could be freedom from parents or just doing whatever you want without parents barking at you, because you are now an adult. Even though I have been in college for only a semester, I would say that I enjoy college more than high school due to personal reason,and to pros and cons, of the different schools.

Fourth through sixth grade, I learned quickly the curriculum was a little more challenging than the first four years of school. There were many changes in school just within these three years. I was learning many new things, things were becoming more challenging. One thing I can say about these years is, I had two of the best teachers anyone could ever ask for. My fourth and sixth grade teacher made me enjoy coming to school. My fourth grade teacher made my fourth grade year one of the best a child could ask for.

In the American schooling system, children begin primary school around the age of six, this is called elementary school and most students stay there for five to six years before they go on to secondary school which involves middle school and high school. After graduating high school some students may go on to “higher education” known as college, but any schooling done after high school is no longer mandatory.

I live at home and ride to university every day, but I don't study at home because there's no place to study, as I live in the same room with my two sisters. Additionally, we are preparing to move in August so the house is full of boxes right

Unlike a elementary and middle school career, the four years in high school will be some of the most important years of a students life. These four years will determine what collage a student will get into, scholarships, or what jobs they could get. So pay attention! Alot of students think their freshman year doesn't matter, but the truth is it the most important year. Most students don't understand that all four years go towards their final GPA. If they fail a class they may get to redo it the next year, however the failing grade will count on your permanent record.

Although people serve their countries in various ways, but every country needs educated people to fill the government needs. Therefor, to have a healthy society, strong government, well-educated people, and equality within the country, two-year college education is important. Once again going to college is very critical move for people, college will not only achieving people goals; it helps your family in long term to have a luxuries living. In addition, the country needs educated people to fill higher posts in the government. In fact, government relies on the coming generation to keep the country strong.

Middle school and high school were very different for me. Both schools lack diversity and consisted of people just like me, but in middle school everyone’s identity were practically the same. I attended Catholic school until high school and had all white classes until then too. Throughout middle school I was a rather mischievous student who did not place academics too highly on my list of priorities, so I was often making the teacher’s job much harder than it needed to be. If not for how involved my family and I were with the church and the school my in class experience would not have been as pleasant. The only way that we ever learned about our own identity was through religion classes and through church so the fact that the entire school probably had less than five students of ethnicity in a school with grade 3-8 in it was never addressed. In middle school almost everyone was middle class or at least were not struggling like some of the families in more urban areas. If a family did begin to struggle enough financially they simply went to another school because the cost of Catholic school was no longer a luxury that they could afford. So the school not only consisted of people with the same race but also eliminated people that were not from the same economic background.

“Freshman myth”, the freshman myth is high school seniors that get affected by the transition from college life. They are overly optimistic and confident in their ability to manage the challenges they will encounter in college. This freshman myth being blamed on by high school because in high school there is no help preparing students for the transition from high school to college, giving future students high expectation on academic, social and personal experiences for when entering college. But this becomes a domino effect because high schools can’t exactly help because they are faced with several budget cuts and lack of support to help high school students in that stage of their lives before going off to college. “Many counselors are overwhelmed and can’t help students like before and are left with little time to help students make such a jump in transition from high school to college and the transition in academic, personal and social challenges” they will soon face on their own. “Statistics show an estimated 18 million students enroll in college in 2008 and almost 35% dropped out or failed out in the first semester because they were over confident, no prepared and lacked unreal expectations for entering college after graduating high school”. Not being prepared for college and expecting it to be exactly like high school effects some students because they believe being on their own with their own rules and no parents on their back makes it easier, but if they do not have

High school and college have the legacy to hold the greatest years of your life. All of these fantastic memories can be forever engraved into your mind. High School takes place in the middle of a person’s teenage years, which is also a very confusing time for most teenagers. Although college can be attended by a wide variety of ages, the average age that attends college is roughly eighteen to twenty-five years old. Between these two ages a lot of growing up is required before you enter the real world. This is why there will always be a large amount of reasons why college is different than high school.

"I'M FINALLY FREE!" When we receive acceptance letters from our colleges, we expected to enter another dimension, college, and be "FINALLY FREE!". Most high school students dread "prison" also known as high school and look forward to the college experience, because college and high school differs in many ways. High school differs from college from the amount of freedom that you get, the atmosphere of both college and high school, and the diversity displayed. Personally speaking being a recent high school graduate and transitioning straight into the Summer B session of Central Florida College I expected many of these differences. Now being a proud college freshman, I feel as if these differences can help me with my path to success.

3. When you decided to attend NIU, what were your expectations? How did you picture America before you came here?

The transition from high school to college is the true test of a student to see if they are truly ready to take the next step in their education. Most students think they are college ready, but end up coming home after the first month. One major difference between high school and college is being on your own. At college students have to make every decision on their own and are completely independent. Yet most would agree that independence is a beautiful thing. The feeling of independence is liberating because it’s a mixture of feeling anxious and relieved. Independence makes me feel anxious because if I make a mistake I only have myself to fix it. I also feel relief from being independent because I don’t have to listen to the way my mom wanted everything to be and I can do things my own way. I was an only child, and I lived with my mother for most of my life. In result of that I had to teach myself most of what I know today. I didn’t have the father figure to give me the guidance that most children require. Since I was an only child and came from an independent background, I believe that helped prepare me for college life.

School plays an important role in our life. Many of us will spend more than fifteen years at school in order to get the qualifications that are required to work in a specific field. Of course, those years are broken down into several levels, some of them being more liked than others. Two important steps that we go through are high school and college. Even though some people would think they are almost similar, yet there are significant differences between them. The cost of high school education is not the same as the cost of college education. Also, some differences apply from an academic point of view. Typically, the social environment also differs from high school to college, a fact that can be related to the question of freedom versus responsibility.
