Zaha Hadid: The Nonpariel Impact On The World
"Architecture is how the person places herself in the space. Fashion is about how you place the object on the person. " -Zaha Hadid
It takes an artist to identify an artist, and Zaha Hadid was nothing short of pure genious. People who are into the contemporary designs and architecture, would acknowledge the eminent loss the world has suffered of the Iraqi-British architect who left the world a little more fabulous than when she had entered it, on 31st March 2016 at the age of 65. In 2008 she was ranked 69th on 'The World's 100 Most Powerful Women' list of Forbes. Every building, artifact or installation crafted by her screamed of her identity through them. The bold shapes, asymmetric designs and lots of curves were her signature style. Breaking the barriers of the contemporary architecture of her times, Hadid became the first Muslim women to win

For the Danish label Georg Jensen Hadid crafted the sculptural jewelry that represented an extension of her imagination and her unconventional fashion statement. A rustic blend of curves and edges to create the bold sculptural jewelry designs for Aziz and Walid Mouzannar, a Lebanese brand.
Although an ideal Zaha Hadid architecture would be mainly in the hues of whites and shades of Silver, Hadid extended her range in designing the jewelry using yellow gold, shades of Pink, Black and of course, White. Her signature fashion statement were unconventional, dramatic, bold and all black ensembles that made her stand out in the kind of edgy attires and
Frank Lloyd Wright once said, “Every great architecture is-necessarily-a great poet. He must be a great original interpreter of his time, his day, his age.” In other words, movements of architecture become movements because of individuals who fabricate their own new styles. Wright states this by saying every architecture reflects his/her time period with originality.Throughout history there have been many great architectures who have worked in many different styles of architecture, such as Gothic, Byzantine, Craftsmen, and Prairie. Many architectural styles such as Romanesque and Gothic went from being a style of architecture to defining a whole period in history. For example, the Craftsmen style of architecture, which originated from the Arts and Crafts movement, went on to define that time in history. Frank Lloyd Wright and the Greene brothers both have exquisite styles of architecture with many similarities and differences in which they pioneered themselves. Wright and the Greene brothers both share similar ideals of architecture in which can be found in their different styles today.
When I was reading your response to this week’s discussion, I noticed you made some important points that I agreed with. We both agree on the belief that architecture is and should be considered art. You mentioned in your response, that there are buildings globally that hold a historic artful meaning or appearance. I could not agree with you more, our book is filled with pictures of historic architectures that have beautiful art sculptures, paintings, images, and much more on them. Architecture I believe is another form of self-expression and another art form. According to our book, “Exploring Art: A Global, Thematic Approach,” written by Margaret Lazzari and Dona Schlesier, states that, “The designs of individual homes embodied climate concerns, aesthetic preferences, and cultural choices” (Lazzari and Schlesier 128). This quote to me means, that the art is present in architecture. The structure of the home is being built according to the owner’s likings and cultural beliefs. Which in other words is an example of architecture being self-expressed.
As Coco Chanel quotes: “Fashion is an architecture: It is a matter of proportion.” Fashion during the Harlem Renaissance and the roaring 20s define the culture of males, females, whites & blacks.
The fashion industry is rapidly growing and constantly generating new fashion trends almost weekly. Fashion for some may seem ridiculous and unnecessary; but fashion is not just a meaningless usage of article of clothing or farcical materials sew together for coverage. There is more to fashion than meets the eyes, fashion is precious and significant. It is a reflection of self-image, it speak the ream about who we are and how we review ourselves. Not only is fashion the reflection of self-image but also the reflection of our history as Coco Channel have said, “Fashion is not something that exist in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Fashion
The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpture—specifically, in-the-round, free-standing sculptures. Both Chihuly’s piece as well as Castle’s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture’s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past.
You can never forget the time you 're living in because the past is the past and it will never come back. So to adjust your philosophy and creativity in fashion to the time you 're living in is the most important thing. - Donatella Versace
People, every day, are surrounded by architecture. Architecture is the careful planning, designing, and construction of buildings (REF). Usually the architecture of a building accurately displays the culture in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be perceived as works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since the start of photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF). Three photographers participated in architectural photography. These were Walker Evans, Albert Sands Southworth, and Josiah Johnson Hawes. Although there were many differences in the formal elements used between these photographers, a common theme can be
The text describes Shahzia Sikander’s art work as a layered creation that is created with ordinary materials (Getlein, 2012). That is one of the fascinating things I find interesting about her art work. Along with the fact that she studied a traditional art form of miniature paintings (PBS, 2001). Her creativity shines through as she expresses herself and ideas throughout her art by taking an ancient art technique and modernizing it to fit her creation perfectly.
Although, most post-modernist architects had been associated with modern architects in terms of training during the twentieth century, they refused most their teachers ideas. In addition, today's architects cannot deny the modern architecture ways of designing any building. Their design, for instance, has many philosophical meaning such as constructional, environmental, sociological, commercial and metaphorical meaning.
Different architects have different styles because they are trying to get at different things. Architecture is not just about making something beautiful anymore, it is about trying to get across a set of ideas about how we inhabit space. Two of the most famous architects of the twentieth century, one from each side, the early part and the later part up until today each designed a museum with money donated by the Guggenheim foundation. One of these is in New York City, it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The other is in bilbao, Spain, and it was designed by Frank Geary. My purpose of this paper is to interrogate each of these buildings, glorious for different reasons, to show how each architect was expressing their own style.
“Fashion used to come from one source at a time, be it the street, the runways or the entertainment business. The interesting thing about today is that influences come from high and low-everything from couture to Target.” –Michael Kors
“Design is for living”. The adage fashioned a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and 1950s. It revolutionized the form by creating an electrifying visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start- two of the powerhouses were Charles and Ray Eames. The Eameses were a husband and wife team whose unique synergy led to a whole new expression in furniture and architecture. The couple advocated the principles of Modernism through the adaptation of innova¬tion from wartime technology .Their design style can be branded as “California Modernism,” a term that is often used interchangeably with “Mid-Century Modernism.” This distinct style embodied an approach to design that opposed the “social conscience” of the Bauhaus in order to embrace looser, warmer design which was both more expressive of local character and in touch with the realities of commerce and salesmanship. With the west-coast coming-of-age, economy shift from making goods to producing information and the global expansion of American culture; their lives and work embodied some of America’s defining movements. They contributed to architecture, film, industrial and graphic design. They were known as pioneers of affordable mass production and residential constructions. The evolution from furniture designers to cultural ambassadors validated their bents and overlaps with country’s interest and projected how design can enhance the lives and practical needs of ordinary people and not just the elite.
This essay will critically discuss the development of Post Modernism as a reaction to Modernism and the growth of the architectural style as an individual movement.
Architecture can be viewed with two different types of properties. Properties that can be seen like shapes, their composition, the spaces they create and, the colours and textures that make up their appearance. These properties are considered to be visual while other properties are considered to be abstract. These properties can only be described using words; the meanings behind the architecture and the stories that can be told about it. The context, its cultural background and its function also affects how we view architecture. The question is, what
To some, fashion is an art form. To others, it is life. For most people it is a method of utilizing clothing, accessories and hair. Fashion is a mode to express yourself, to serve as an extension of your personality, or even to disguise your true self (Nellis, 1999).
