Bin day changes! Luton Council meeting 22/04/2016 Herold & Post.
Luton residents are being notified that from Monday, May 2nd, 2016 everyday waste and recycling bin collection days will be changing for the majority of households.
At the moment, the collection day for household waste and recycling is every Monday. This is looking to change due to the cost of money and bank holidays affecting people's bins being changed every week. This is going to be a step up for Luton as it will help local residents not to stress over how full their bin is and how long they'll have to wait to get their bin changed after a bank holiday.
This change is looking to save us more than £200,000 each year through a 15% reduction in fuel costs, due to 26 refuse
Rubbish must be removed daily before children are allowed to enter the area e.g litter, broken glass and animal mess.
Recycling helps improve the enviorment we live in because, many times I see people liter and throw things that can be recycled on the ground.Such as water bottles, soda cans , paper, and plastic. As stated in the flyer "The new plan calls for every resident to have three trashcans: a green one for compost such as food waste, a blue one for recyclable paper and plastice, and a black one for landfill." This example shows if every resident had those three trashcans there should'nt be a reason
Wasting is something we’re all fond of doing; it has become a very popular issue in my city. Whether arising from lack of time to consume, or greed driven. The council is stopping land fill, and having household waste collected in groups i.e. Glass, metal, food waste, plastic and paper. This assures quick delivery to recycling plants to be materially
The council has put in place the recycling program, to try reduce and improve human health. The programme has managed to tackle landfills from being full with rubbish that can cause the air to pollute, causing severe damage to human health. The recycling program has had a positive impact on human health, less pollution in the air means people get to live a longer and healthier life because , environmental factors such as pollution is not causing so much damage to the air and environment.
All residents of Penticton receive weekly curbside garbage collection. Penticton is also part of the province wide recycle BC program that allows residents to recycle a host of items in their blue bin for bi-weekly curbside pickup. For residents who receive curbside garbage collection, the city of Penticton also offers bi-weekly pick-up for yard biproducts during the months of March – December. Yardwork items can include:
As vice president of Association of Pickers of Jardim Gramacho (ACAMJG), Valter, explain interesting fact that almost 50% of the garbage material can be recycled but people do not pay
It can be observed that they have motivated and direct people toward the best practices of waste management. Separate bins for recyclable garbage and other garbage are provided by Southbank.
As with the Hardy Township site, trash must be removed from and around all bins before collectors will pick up recycling. That means an investment of man hours and added cost to the county, said Miller, who is hopeful changes will inspire voluntary
Instead of making recycling a law, how about just promoting and honor those who do. For example; those who are recycling every week and do it continuously, lower their trash bill, or give them a free ticket to the local football game. When those who are not recycling see what those who are, are getting out of it, maybe they'll catch on and do the same.
There are though some problems that would come with this proposal. The GatesburgGoGreen Initiative would place strict laws on what residents can and can not put inside of each bin. The initiative proposes that fines will be placed on citizens who do not adhere strictly to the rules of what can go inside of each bin. Also, each bin is equipt with a radio-frequency identification computer chip, which will weigh each bin, and compare how much waste is placed in the recyling bins, versus the trash bins (waste that will go to the county landfll).
I have also left papers on the doors of the other tenants with the pros for recycling and how easy it can be and the perks of recycling. The land lord is also going to invest in small recycling cans to give to all the units and another one in the common area. So, I believe with me discussing with the landlord and getting the word out that this might encourage the others to become more aware and possibly will want to care more and help the environment and our community to go

In 1983/84, the average amount of household rubbish per person per year in England was 397 kilograms (Defra, 2007), in the following years, this increased and by 2006/07, this figure had grown by 28 percent to 508 kilograms. This trend has been explained by the growing affluence of the general person and their greater amount of disposable income, which is then being spent on luxury products. As a result, more and more waste is being generated each year; this essay will explore the arguments around whether this ever increasing amount of rubbish has any value.
Our residents have trash bins that they load their trash into then they put it out in front of their house on a certain day of the week. Then we have trash men that
Recycling is an essential part of reducing the amount of waste filling up landfills. Recycling materials cannot only reduce waste but pollution as well. Unfortunately the typical recycling programs such as curbside pick-up and recycling centers require significant commitment from the public to be successful which generally leads to low participation. However there may be a solution to the problem. The pollution prevention and reduction program suggests the use of materials recovery facilities. Materials recovery facilities sort out recyclable materials from other waste products such as compostable items. By sorting out the waste at one central location more items get recycled and waste is reduced without public participation. A recent article by Wang (2010) suggests, “The installation of materials recovery facilities (MRFs) can be an alternative solution to the problem of low participation of voluntary household and curbside recycling in fast-growing cities.” Materials recovery facilities can be a viable solution for waste management problems where public participation is an obstacle. This solution also provides less societal impact because lifestyle change is not as critical.
