How Does Apocrine Sweat Glands Regulate The Body

a. When you exercise all your sweat glands work and has an integral role while you exercise. All your sweat glands are working together to help regulate the body. There are two types of sweat glands, eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine sweat glands help to regulate the body’s temperature by emitting sweat onto the surface of the skin to help cool you down. The nervous system will stimulate the eccrine glands to produce sweat, which typically odorless and light. Apocrine glands do not regulate the body’s temperature, but creates substances that does have an odor. These glands typically produce sweat in response to hot situations, like while exercising. Therefore, all your sweat glands work to help regulate the body while exercising.

b. When you sweat, our armpits, scalp, and groin area will smell the worst. These three areas contain apocrine sweat glands, which is a type of sweat gland. Apocrine sweat glands do not help regulate body temperature, but rather secrete organic substances. These organic substances help to break down sweat and when contacted with the bacteria on our skin, creates a body odor. Therefore, odor does relate to sweat because apocrine sweat glands produce bacteria that is metabolized while sweating, which produces an odor.

In my opinion perspiration cannot be controlled. Perspiration is a bodily response to help regulate the body. Perspiration is controlled by the autonomic nervous system, which can not be controlled. There are products in the market like antiperspirants and deodorants to help subside the effects of sweating. Avoiding hot environments, spicy foods, and alcoholic beverages can also help minimize sweating. Surgical procedures and drugs are available, but many have side effects and the results are not always permanent. Therefore, perspiration can not be controlled, but rather minimized and
